This lineup sucks...I guess Avicii is kinda cool but I don't really care for JFK or anyone else.

You are completely right that they can't make the same money off of the underground market like the used to, and that the dance music market in general has changed. I don't blame them for wanting to book crowd draws such as Deadmau5, but booking a line-up like this which is 100% cheese is lazy and is very short-sighted. They could have booked at least some interesting DJs. I guess you can't blame them though because The Guv doesn't have much time left.

I guess I'm just saddened to see a club which was once forward thinking in their bookings change their focus to the cheese end of the spectrum. This line-up is as mainstream as it gets.

as I read the actual thread, I can 100% see why people are so dissapointed. Its not the end of the world, like Kristina said, but people also have the right to roll their eyes at such a lineup. My eyes rolled HARD when I saw the list, and I'm not even going....thank GOD!! LOL

you guys have supported the scene with your wallets
you've listened to the music, invited your friends, gone to the parties, downloaded the music, danced until the wee hours of the morning with utter disregard for your bodies and probably your brains too

You've helped shape the scene for the many involved.

You've registered yourselves on a web forum and given yourselves a platform to voice your opinions about events. So go ahead, don't hesitate to write about it if the party seems shitty to you.

I won't lie...this was disappointing to say the least. Disappointing enough to stop me from buying a ticket to what has become a yearly staple in the party calendar.

On the plus side...i won't be exhausted on the calderone cruise...I will have a chance to perhaps hit up something else and enjoy another aspect of a wonderful scene here in Toronto.

As far as The Guvernment goes, why are we really surprised? They are trying to pull in that younger mainstream crowd more and more precisely because if you can't fill the mainroom or Kool haus for Paul Van Dyk and Roger Sanchez AND fedde le grand (sort of mainstream), then why not try something else. Not only will they still make shit loads of money, but all those "underground" fans who would usually come out to see a Lawler sunrise session will still (for the most part) come out a couple of weeks earlier. It actually makes sense if you think about it...may not be right but from their shoes it does make sense.

all kinds of events on June 30.. noone is forcing you to go see Deadmau5 (love it or hate it, the biggest EDM figure in the world atm).

THREE boatcruises on July 1 with international headliners on 2 of them

PRIDE events on July 2, 3, and 4

TORONTO FACKEN CITY! stop complaining, go and have fun!

This just means everyone will be fresh for the Calderone cruise. I talked to him Sunday at Stereo and he's really excited for it! Can't wait!

All this talk about the underground scene.. but, how was the underground underground when it wasn't underground I think we're all just aging, and music always changes. Clubs like Guv are always gonna be, at least somewhat, mainstream. It just so happens that the headliners for this particular event are about as mainstream as you can get outside of inviting Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga to do a show. Nevertheless, it's still EDM (though some might aruge ) inside a world class club. Outside of Guetta, I'd agree that Joel is the biggest thing going right now, and Benassi has always had a huge following. I'll stick with my previous statement, that I have witnessed Benassi tear a place apart. Even when he hasn't, it's been an enjoyable experience. And, I don't think there's any doubt about the energy inside KH for Deadmau5. It's gonna be crazy, but if that's not your thing, like others have said, there should be no shortage of things to do. Personally, these guys aren't what I was hoping to see on the lineup, but I skipped guv my last trip up there, and this night will be more about roaming around and having a good time with good friends. And if it's not the greatest night ever (wont be) then it's of no consequence because the boats, beaches, clubs, bars, and so forth the rest of the weekend should be enough to make this another terrific trip to your city.

There is still an 'underground scene' in Toronto, it's just not happening at the guv. There are loads of events going on around the city that have some quality music, even events that are 100% local DJs - maybe you just try detaching yourself from the nostalgia of what the Guverment used to be and start enjoying what Toronto actually has to offer.

Milkrun has had some pretty crazy lineups latley, Promise usually throws a good party when they have them, Platform has been proving to be a solid promoter over the past few years and continues to improve. Break & Enter, Hushlamb, Tempo, AlienInFlux continue to bring in unique talent that's not recycling the same-old-shit for the 100th time and managing to do it in some unique spaces (and occasionally falling onto the standbys. SUMA Throws some great events that seem to fly under everyone's radar except for the 'hippieish-om' scene that has some great music and amazing vibe -- and that's just the subset of stuff going on in the city that has a direct interest to me, never mind the House, Breaks, Dubstep,Trance,etc promoters that I don't really follow very much.

Hell, looks like Sunnyside has some pretty serious sick-shit lined up this summer also.

Sure. I've gone to many of those parties, and they're great, but it is nice to party every once in a while in one of the greatest clubs in the world while listening to some actually good music.

Guess I've never had a soft-spot for the guv. I had an OK time my first time going (wasn't really into EDM at the time, just wanted to go out).

Second time I went, I was into EDM, and the place was so crammed shoulder-to-shoulder that I was pushed into the hallway leading into the main room (and even there it was packed shoulder to shoulder) and left being very bitter that I didn't even get to see the DJ I had wanted to see.

Have only been back a handful of times since, the 'mega-club' experience just ain't for me most of the time.

I think the main issue of contention here, for a few people I know at least, is that we're just not getting the musical experiences in this city like we used to. Sure, there has been some amazing nights, but those nights are limited to 3-5 hour sets that end pre-7am. For anybody that has any decent amount of party experience, be it in Toronto, or globally, it's those post 7am journeys that really define what it is to be taken on a musical journey. I'm talking about those times where you're asking yourself what on earth it is that you're hearing, and in the same train of thought trying to rationalize the fact that it's 9 in the morning. You can't get those "experiences" in Toronto anymore. Not in the context of a 6+ hour set at least.

To me personally, it's those experiences that have defined my love for the genre, and this scene. I wouldn't be posting on these boards today if it weren't for those experiences.

In relation to what I posted previously in this thread, Toronto used to be known for this. It's why we have a global underground toronto compilation, it's why we have that crazy picture from that ferry corsten night. That's the reputation that this city had, and that's why so many of the most forward thinking dj's held Toronto in such high regard. I don't think Toronto has quite that reputation anymore.

Very well said, and I couldn't agree more. I have heard this topic of conversation come up in various groups over the past couple of months, that there just isn't really anywhere to have a big night out anymore.

I had an opinion which I felt necessary to air on this board where i don't come very often, and show my disdain for the lack of Underground at the Canada day at guv.

Booking Chus and Ceballos for a sunrise set on skybar, leads me to belive they haven't forgotten about us at all at guv.

They were very close to giving it to Montreal, given that Sultan had so many tracks on it, but was given to Toronto because it was a larger city, so sales would be higher. Not a knock at all, just a fun fact.

Those long sets have been cut short in Montreal too. Well, shorter anyway.

deadmau5 in main room, c&c doing sunrise... (zone madness in between) victor calderone boat cruise the next day...

and people were ACTUALLY complaining, honestly! we have it so good in this city, some comments in this thread are embarrassing imo

Love him or hate him - Deadmau5 is Canada's biggest export in electronic music off all time and it makes complete sense that he headlines the Canada Day celebration at the biggest/top ranked club in Canada.

What I meant to say is despite the lack of a good CANADA day party for the undergound clientele imo, was made up for with the 24th booking.

if c&c were playing canada day, this whole thread would render useless.
