does starlight still exist?

yeah starlight exists when it wants to exist. it was open this past summer on fridays and saturday's. they always had some crazy asian guy dj'ing who wasn't particularly good, but could certainly play the crowd properly.

Having a bit of issues with final approvals. hopefully they are cleared up. However, likely not opening before xmas expect Gareth.

Never know thou.

YES sometimes Toronto will have similar bookings, sometimes on weekends and sometimes on Thursdays. All depends.

Never the less the success has been great. Steve Aoki is a Saturday and is 70% sold out after being on sale for 3 days. AVICII at about 30% which is amazing as well.

Gareth Emery is sold out. I think Guv hosted him in May and he is coming to Beta in Dec. Pretty good gap.

Also, let you guys be the first to know cause we probably won't advertise this until after xmas.

Sander Van Doorn is booked for Feb 3. Hope to see you all out

I think there is some decent separation from the last performance in Toronto.

Thanks for everyone's support

Does anybody know what time is good to arrive? It says 9:30 but will they really be open by then? Anybody know what happened with Angello?

I don't want to have to wait in line in the cold; I sure hope they don't pull the old "open late just so the line looks long" bullshit.

Posted by ChemEnhanced on Dec-16-2010 00:51:

prepare to wait

Starlight is actually awesome, probably KW's best club. I've never seen any bullshit happen there (no top 40 listening whores or faggeaton losers). Music is different but they also have a lot of bands perform. Different crowd, so calling it a hipster club is more like an ignorant jab (no offense).

Caesar's, Starlight, Tyrones etc, all have the same kind of stuff playing every week (top 40, poppy house music). Would be a big deal if BETA works out and some big DJ's come by and come frequently. As much as I hate his music, Joel would certainly do a number on KW and help it become something for club goers.

As per university sluts, just go to Phil's across from Wilfred Laurier. If you don't mind the smell of rotting puke every week, then this is your place.

LOL @ description of Phil's and its crowd, so true.

However, I slightly disagree; Tyrone's doesnt exist anymore.

Whoever opened that place had the most epic failure execution ever;

1) The name sounds like a black man from Atlanta.
2) The logo looked like some kind of chinese scripture.
3) They opened up around or after the final semester for students in kitchener-waterloo, therefor losing 60,000 potential customers.
4) They closed when the 60,000 students CAME BACK.
5) When they were open, they tried to cater some kind of high-end fine dining during the day to students that weren't there in the summer. Even if they were there, students dont have the money to be spending on fine dining.

I'm glad that place shut down. Does anyone know anything about the new place 'Embassy' opening up in its locale?

Posted by hax-a-million on Dec-16-2010 06:37:

yeah the guy who opened that place seems to attract failure... he used to run Planet Goodtime - djing weddings and proms in the area, not sure if it's still in business. he's a tool, regardless

haven't heard anything about embassy, is there a sign there? it's been a minute since i've been in town. shouldn't be too hard to find out tho

re starlight, they definitely have some cool shows. i saw dj spooky accompanied by a string quartet there!

Not going to lie, I'm fairly impressed that Beta has someone actively answering questions and participating in discussions. It's certainly not something that I think should be a standard but it's really helpful - especially for a startup.

Good show, Beta!

The person answering questions is the owner of the club
