So many parties! What ones, if any?

Do I got to the Sunday Get Physical party? Any party...

I keep hearing more and more gears grinding on a Richie party...

Don't want to get stuck with extra tickets...

How far is the The Westin Book Cadillac from the festival site? Are there other reasonable downtown hotels that it's worth enquiring with?

Also, is it worth getting VIP tickets? They've generally been poor value at most of the other festivals I've been to.

It's just under a km away from the festival site and the MGM is just under a mile away from the festival site.

This at Old Miami will.be.fucking.mental; especially Cassy. I'm also really looking forward to seeing the mastermind behind Fabric for the first time: Craig Richards.

Cheers. Hopefully, that makes it close enough to avoid getting mugged en route!

Pretty much spot on!

Cassy will be a treat to see play at Old Miami this year; last year she was just a spectator.

Craig Richards twice in such a short span of time at two totally rad parties = madness!

Doubt it will happen, there's a crazy amount of ppl on the street when the fest is over for the night, and it's downtown, I felt totally safe last year.

Posted by AMMORA on May-06-2011 20:34:

Circoloco yesssssssssssss and listed artist, HOJ on the line up! not to be missed!!!

NISM6 - Cassy's gonna kill it!!! cannot wait :-D

Here is my thought on saftey in Detroit that I posted last year in last year's DEMF thread... something to consider...

I fell completely safe there, but I do have my guard up a bit more than usual... it's all about being comfortable and aware of your surrounding and situations.

Saftey in Detroit...for those of you not experienced with it.

Detroit is NOT that bad of a city, but it isn't good either...

Here are my tips for out of towners, some may not agree or think i'm being stupid, but I've lived in Windsor all my life and been to the D many times...many great places, many awesome people. As Fedde said, it's a lovely city. But everywhere has it's bad, and there is a reason that it get's its reputation.

Need to be careful, especially with many of us not aware of the areas, nieghbourhoods, venues and at night. ie. The Works is not in the best area, St Andrews has it's fair share of weird in it's surroundings.

Detroit is an animal so treat it as such.

Don't act afraid, Detroit smells fear...

Don't cower and retreat either...

Don't fluff your feathers like a bird to appear aggresive, Detroit preys on that. Don't be loud, don't be beligerant, don't be disrepectful...

Ignore anything "Detroit'ish", don't make a scene, don't gawk, act like it's normal, don't point and don't make it obvious that you and your friends are talking about it. This means anything, people you see, actions, places, etc...

Don't walk alone, keep your cell phone at all times (but don't be on it all the time letting everyone know you have a $500+ iphone/BlackBerry), keep minimal cash and don't dress flashy (ie, expensive watches, jewlery, etc)..

May seem like common sense, but just letting you all know as a friendly reminder!

I bet some Detroit peeps who are viewing this thread will make fun of me lol...

Don't be afraid, BUT be careful...

But have fun... don't let the above put a bad taste in your mouth, enjoy DEMF and meet new amazing people and see brilliant cool places... but be safe!

Haha, playing it cool and not appearing like a tourist seems to be the order of the weekend.

What are some approximate intersections for the ropey areas of St Andrews and The Works?

Also, if I arrive on Friday and have an afternoon spare, what would you suggest checking out that is quintessentially Detroitian, or, since it will be my first trip to the US, something that is unabashedly American?

Posted by hardcore_barbie on May-08-2011 13:57:

Hey everyone, I'm selling a DEMF ticket for $50 if anyone still needs one...

I can meet anywhere in Mississauga, Toronto as well...

You can reach me @ 416 821 0013... I don't usually check messages on TA so please call/text me or Facebook msg me @ Marta Sz =)

Thanks!

Cab it to the The Works, don't walk.

St.Andrews is pretty close to the festival, there will be a mass exodus of people leaving the festival and heading to St.Andrews hall, so just stay in the crowd and you're good. Just as you leave, go up Woodword or Randolph and walk along E.Congress and you'll be ok.

Things to do there, hmmm, shop? Take advantage of your CAD $ lol, it's Memorial Day weekend, so there are tons of sales. There is some decent malls only a 15-20 min drive on the freeway. If you're just in Detroit, you could catch a Tigers game, they're playing the Red Sox @ Comerica Park for a night game.

DIA - Detroit Institute Of The Arts http://www.dia.org/

Can't really think of much more, the city itself is pretty interesting to just walk around and enjoy... there is some micro breweries, some hipstery places. On a nice afternoon, you could just wander and enjoy the city.

Saturday, May 28th CLR heads to Motor City for an official Movement Afterparty with a world-class line-up. 5 DJs will be taking over 2 floors of Elysium nightclub for a night of pure underground Techno Music. The lineup includes Chris Liebing and Speedy J teaming up for their Collabs project, Radio Slave, Marcel Dettmann and Drumcell. More acts to be announced soon.

Collabs featuring two of the most recognized forces in Techno music, Chris Liebing and Speedy J, are making their long-awaited return to Detroit. Joining forces, they combine masterly experimental sound manipulation and design with peak time techno drama, creating magnificent main floor magnets. The focus of their shows is collaboration and improvisation, blurring the boundaries between DJing and playing live.

Radio Slave creates hallucination-evoking, bass-burrowing dancefloor tracks and is one of the main men in the European, and global, dance scene. His productions, remixes and DJ sets have only one aim: to make you move - inside and out.

Resident of the legendary Berghain in Berlin, Marcel Dettmann will be delivering his signature style of modern, solid and fresh Techno. Using production techniques tailored to fit the clubs acoustics, he is known for expertly sculpting organ-realigning bass frequencies.

Drumcell, founder of Droid Recordings and co-founder of Droid Behavior in LA, has toured all over the globe spreading the Techno Gospel by getting the world moving and banging their heads to new sounds. His set at Elysium will be no different.

CLR is known for perfect entertaining qualities, ecstatic live performances, customized visual shows, and uncompromising modern Techno. Join us for a top-notch electronic music experience.

OK, I've given up on what afterparties I'm going to...

I'm just winging it! If I don't get into one, there are tons of others that I could get into.

I am still very tempted for that Get Physical party tho... that could be a good stomper!
