i think people bash him on here because they want to be cool. doesn't make them cool tho. makes them look bitter and jealous.
also the funny thing is, i would say close to half the people on TA are social inept because they sit behind a screen and do not know how to interact with real people in real situations.

Sure what you said is true in part but I personally know quite a few ppl who were fans and supporters until they actually stood in front of mr mouse and were not given the time of day... If I'm a celeb, and I'm standing in public, and a fan comes up to me, you're damn skippy that I'll at least put my bb away and listen to them for 30 seconds... If I don't want to deal with the public, I'll find somewhere to get away... And then there was the whole anti DJ thing... Deadmou5 may be a good producer and showman, but Joel Zimmerman is just not a nice guy. And a lot of people just don't differentiate... I've always said that I was happy that a local was making it big. I've even gone as far as to say that I enjoyed watching him work. I just wish he wasn't such a dick... |

| Originally posted by Moral Hazard I think you missed my point... the flaming of him started before his colourful (to be charitable) responses. Ripping him a new asshole on these boards has less to do with him as a person then him as a success. It's a pretty well established pattern. If someone wants to flame him because he doesn't sufficiently ingratiating himself to his fans that's fine; however, most of what I see are flame posts seemingly born out of our pathalogical need to tear down anyone from our special little underground that gets any measure of mainstream success. It wouldn't matter if Joel gave a blow-job and potted plant to everyone on TA, we'd still hate on him. (yeah, I don't know why a potted plant either) |

lol @ the drama.
Double lol @ joel wondering why people on here rip him. It's TA dude it's what people do. Coming here and questioning the hate is like walking out into the rain and wondering why you got wet. Whether you like it or not this place is on the opposite end of the spectrum from the 2mil + fans on FB who spam you with "firsts!" in .5 seconds and "omfg more mau5head pleezzzz." If you want props go see fans, if you want hate come post on TA.
As for ripping up TA as a forum, it's a fucking forum. Show me any one of these on the net and my 12 year old sister could rip it apart, easiest thing ever.
Joel, I liked the thread you made in the production forum, that was really helpful. Maybe some more of that?

wait. the Mau5 uses a BB? why is an American (diplo) reppin officially and not a Canadian? #canadianconspiracy

He doesn't know what the scene is because he was never really part of it other than his candy raver days in the 90's...
After those days, he locked himself in his basement for 10 years making music...
Not knocking that seeing as it worked out for him but he doesn't have to knock the scene since he was never a part of it..

| Originally posted by deadmau5 i just sit here and work away on all sorts of fun projects, and when im done those, i sit back and take enjoyment from putting a smile on someones face, or a tune in their head. Dont think for a second "isnt cool like..." or "sucks because" actually contributes to anything other than making yourself look like a complete fuckin idiot who lacks the means to do it the way they see fit. and whats the deal with all this "scene" shit? fuck "the scene" dude. Del. *thumbs up*
This place really did use to be 'lovey dovey' as you put it. Right on right on my brotha.
As for the negativity here in TO, it's for sure forcing people into clubs. The stamping out of most Edm festivals. So sad. I can't think of any other reason as to why.
At the very least if there was a balance of everything, festivals AND big parties then things would be a lot better.

| Originally posted by Swamper Also, from my experience, the negativity seems to be worse in Toronto. |
whatever, if anything i personally always defend him because i appreciate the fact that he actually makes and has always made music himself unlike many of his (just as popular) colleagues. It is not something i really like or listen to a lot but i can appreciate why people like his music. Like Zyklon said he is the mid-step in between popular house music and other less popular edm and people that would like to dig and find out more about lesser known music get that chance, it's a great thing for this city as we need a new generation of people once we get older. Although i've listened to electronic music since 91 i never went out or paid attention to electronic music until i got exposed to tiesto. I hate him now he was that step for me and i'm grateful for that.

| Originally posted by Swamper None of this is new, the flak you receive on here unfortunately comes with the territory -- prior to you it was Armin who got slagged, and before that Tiesto, and before that Oakenfold. It's no fun to come back from the hotel after an amazing gig only to see someone slamming you (or your set) but that's what happens. You could have a thread with 100 positive reviews but it's the one negative one that eats away at you. It takes A LOT to not reply back to defend yourself. I'm not a DJ so I can't comment on that aspect but I have heard enough over the years. It's a slippery slope - even if you are in the right, and come in to defend yourself, you always run the risk of making the problem worse -- those that don't like you won't care what you have to say and those that are on the fence sometimes see your response as being ego/power tripping related. The ones that rise to your defence, are seen as 'kissing ass/ball washing'...it's all fucked up. TA, for the most part, lets people say what they want without repercussion... I don't censor things and TA doesn't have many rules because life is full of rules and once you wrap too many rules around something it becomes less fun. The major caveat of that is then you end up having ppl threatening to sue you for defamation because of comments said about them on your forum. Believe it or not, this place was once all all lovey dovey. Like most forums in their early stages, many people know each other and don't want to push boundaries... but as things grow ppl want to carve out their own little niche and label those that are too positive as either EDM n00bs or kissing ass for some nefarious purpose. Also, from my experience, the negativity seems to be worse in Toronto. It's one reason why it's nice to travel to hit up a party - it's a completely different experience. Some would argue the 'scene' evolved into this after 'raves' migrated into nightclubs and dancefloors migrated into havens for bootle service booths... but that's a topic for another thread. |
