Yes, if Richie Hawtin is boring to you, then WHO do you think is good?

That is, if you like techno or tech-house at all.

I feel like I should respond to this but you seem so clueless that I'm not sure it's even worth it.

Posted by wotyzoid on Dec-13-2012 21:51:

That right there is what I'm talking about. Like, what in the actual fuck? "You like techno and not Richie? Blasphemy!"

No fucking clue.

Clue me in, nerds. Waiting.

Posted by wotyzoid on Dec-13-2012 22:15:

You seem like you're trolling so I won't. But I will ask, do you even know any other techno/tech house dj's other than Hawtin? Could you name a few?

Posted by ucforange on Dec-13-2012 22:24:

Beyer, Fanciulli, Nofereini, Engberg, Moudaber, Gary Beck, Dubfire, Carl Craig, Stacey Pullen, Pan-Pot, Christian Smith, Advent, Industrialyzer, Klock, Luke Slater, etc...

Posted by ucforange on Dec-13-2012 22:24:

BTW

Is that enough?? BTW, this whole "trolling" thing...I don't get it. I don't think I'm "trolling" so just answer the damn question.

Posted by wotyzoid on Dec-13-2012 22:38:

So you do realize that Hawtin is hardly the sole definition of a good techno dj. Someone can find him boring and still like a whole range of other dj's in the genre alone. And you're an idiot.

Posted by ucforange on Dec-13-2012 22:40:

At least I'm not a "Supreme Sith Lord" on a music forum. Jesus...

I get more bullshit facebook invites from you about your gigs than much more well established DJs in the Toronto area, yet you have the audacity to be such a condescending and pretentious prick on these boards.

Jesus fuck.

Are you sure you're thinking of the right person?

1. I was never offered a gig in Rochester. You had talked to me about it vaguely but I never saw any reason to take you seriously because you never came off as someone who could make anything happen.
2. I never sent you any Facebook invites. You live in Rochester, why the fuck would I invite you?
3. "you have the audacity to be such a condescending and pretentious prick on these boards" - ironically, I cannot think of a person on TA this statement describes better than yourself.

I'm actually worried for you. Not only is your post entirely based on fiction, but it also makes you come off as sort of a weird, crazy nutcase.

Please ignore me on TA and unfriend me on Facebook. I have no desire to even be aware of your existence anymore.

The only site that comes even close that I can think of is WATTM, although they are more IDM/electronica orientated.

Anyone remember Elite Trance forum where people leeched new releases? It was at its peak in 2004 before the forum died out. My username was QualityTranceOnly

1. I told you flat out that I personally knew the promoter, gave you the name of the promotion company, and told you the name of the club that it would be at.
2. They're not personal invites, they're the bullshit spam about every single event you ever are involved in.
3. I'm not really sure how to address this, other than pointing out how you seem to throw temper tantrums anytime any DJ who is popular gets praise as being "good."

I realize you're probably trying to save face, since you seem to have an innate need to do that, but every word of what I said is true, and you know that. Naked Eye Entertainment, in case you forgot about the promotion agency who brought Simon Patterson and Deko-ze, both infinitely more established than you, to Rochester.

You literally said it wasn't worth your time because you wouldn't be making more than $500 for a 2-3 hour slot. How much more arrogant could you be for a near-nobody in the DJ world?

Posted by Adam420 on Dec-13-2012 23:33:

1. At no point was that more than an idea. Why didn't you have the promoter contact me to make me an offer? Sorry but nothing about what you said ever made me take you seriously.

2. I fucking DJ, and I need to promote my events. If that's such a difficult thing for you to live with then Facebook has a feature that very easily allows you to block status updates from me. I don't know what else to say.

3. No. Just no. I call bullshit when I see bullshit, that's all. But to suggest what you are suggesting is just not true and a gross over-exaggeration.

Again, fuck off. Please, I really mean it.

Apparently you're too good for the agency that brought Joee Cons, Morgan Page, Deko-ze, Simon Patterson, etc. to Rochester.

And I never had him contact you because you said you weren't interested because they wouldn't pay some scrub from Montreal some unrealistic figure that you think you're entitled to, you fucking prat.

If I even recall correctly, you made some bullshit request that they pay for you and someone else's transportation from Montreal to Rochester. You may as well have a fucking rider. Christ. You act like you're some hot commodity when I try to do YOU a favor and get you booked in a new city with an emerging club scene. In the past year massive jocks like Avicii and Afrojack have been selling out massive shows here. You turn it down because "it's not your scene" yet you spam the shit out of your events on facebook.

Make up your mind. Do you want to be playing deep house to 50 k heads in a dark room or do you actually want exposure so you can get the recognition you seem to think you already deserve.

Posted by Adam420 on Dec-13-2012 23:42:

You are batshit crazy.

Posted by srussell0018 on Dec-13-2012 23:43:

Right, I just made up that elaborate story out of nowhere just to make you look bad. You caught me, Armin.

Posted by Adam420 on Dec-13-2012 23:47:

I didn't say you made it up, but you came here and tried to make it sound like there was a lot more to it than there really was. We had an informal conversation, nothing more nothing less. Don't make it seem like it was any more serious than that.

Posted by srussell0018 on Dec-13-2012 23:52:

I was pointing out that you essentially had an offer on the table which you turned down because the "scene" at the club in question wasn't to your liking, and because you wouldn't be paid what you thought you deserved.

I find that ironic when you try so hard to get your name out there, yet turn down offers to play the same club that DJs eons past you in their careers chose to play.

Your general attitude on this forum just reeks of someone who will never "make it" because you think that you're above what you are, and will thus never grow as an artist beyond playing small niche slots.

Regardless, I'm done talking about this subject as it's irrelevant to this thread. If you have a further problem feel free to PM me.

It seems that Hawtin [especially in this ENTER incarnation] has been bringing a lot more people into the fold over the past year or 2 -- that is, somehow he's become much more appealing to the uninitiated. I was really surprised when he didn't jump back to #1 on the RA poll this year, but I suppose the majority of those new fans have no real interest in the RA perspective, and Troxler's stuff has become much more ubiquitous among the RA crowd.

Somehow, the ENTER events have very little appeal for me. I've had some great experiences seeing Hawtin in the past, but, based on my more recent observations, I just wouldn't expect the same next time around.

That being said - Hawtin has this mystique about him now that makes those newer fans feel that, by virtue of having experienced an ENTER event and seen the great Richie and Loco and whoever else, they have become seriously aligned with the real, underground techno scene.

I'd rather see Hawtin play than Troxler any day. He's infinitely more talented as a DJ.

I like Hawtin except for his track selection. To me it's just all about the music a DJ is playing, nothing else. I also find he tries to play too many loops together at the same time. The music he plays is just effective, but completely uninspired. Kinda like Joris Voorn but with even less personality. I recently listened to a set of his from around 2003 when he was still playing records and it was just so much better.
