Yeah...I'm pretty confident I can increase the weight there. Just didn't want to go at it all in one day. Next time fo' sho!

...i think i exercise too much. i'm starting to think it's not so great for the body. i'm in the gym for 90min - 120min 5 days a week...not everyday can be awesome. maybe it is better to sleep more / engage in relaxing exercises rather that cario then weights that often. i like workingout but i look around me at work and the pretty physical people have bum knees...3 serious acl injuries

Posted by Slylee on Jul-15-2008 02:32:

got back into my routine tonight. i was out of town over the weekend and i felt shitty that i couldn't work out lol

i started my 5 small meals a day thing today. oatmel this morning, then salami & swiss on wheat for lunch, then some fat free triscuit crackers & mild cheddar cheese as an afternoon snack. worked out after work and then came home and had a boca burger on wheat toast with steamed broccoli. finishing off my night with a strawberry & peach smoothie i made.

Posted by chimera66 on Jul-15-2008 02:33:

sounds like a good day for you!

yea that's too much. i told my ex that i wanted to do 5 days a week and he was like, "yea u dont even need to, that's silly" he said 4 days a week is fine and they shouldn't be consecutive, i need to split the days up. like go for 2 and take a day off and then go for another 2. i mean if you are just trying to maintain or tone up a bit, u def don't need to spend that much time in the gym. that's like body builder hours.

Yeah but if you still feel good, what's the problem? Unless of course, you DON'T feel good.

just wear gloves. it's not like crew where it'd be seen as poosy to have gloves while you row.

Yeah, sure..... the rowing machine

jamie - curious and not to discredit him, but why did he say to not take the glucosamine?

as for your meals, you are pretty thin as it is (or from what i remember), perhaps you need to eat a more balanced diet instead of watching/cutting your foods. I can see rest days for you working out, but don't think it's all that necessary. it sounds like you are doing well routine wise, keep at it!

mmm callous hands on girls are so hot...seriously lol

and for the record, he knows his shit...bs in exercise physiology from ohio state and physical therapy grad school. i'm getting free training and diet advice from him

i'm gonna be doing 5 meals a day not to exceed 1200 calories, and 4 days a week weight training (not consecutively) with 20 min cardio as a warmup for each session.

I hope u weigh 80lbs with only taking in 1200 cals. say bye bye to any muscle tone u might have.

Posted by JD8180 on Jul-15-2008 15:27:

sorry for the change of subject, but what are some good exercises i can do either at home (for the days that i'm lazy) and at the gym that are good for your deep core muscles. i really am not looking for the regular 6 pack that everyone tries to get, i'm talking about the muscles under those that really do all the work for your body when it comes to all movements and posture.

Posted by Slylee on Jul-15-2008 15:31:

i wear gloves, i hate calluses that's gross...at least on me. on guys it's hot. lol

glucosamine is supposed to lubricate joints right? mine are already slippery and 'cracky' because i don't have enough muscle around them. so i just need to build muscle around my joints and that will stop it.

also, i'm 5'5 and i weigh 114 now. trying to be a lean 120. i'm eating 5 small meals a day. keeping it healthy...lots of protein and only whole wheat carbs.

ew buy some gloves, women with rough hands make me think peasant worker. honestly though i have cute nike gloves (baby blue and gray)and i think they make nice gloves for women...perfect sizing for smaller hands.

as for my rant about not working out...i'm just going to go easy. i over do things and sometimes that's not good.

Posted by Slylee on Jul-15-2008 15:44:

don't u love when he carresses your skin and then a callus gets caught on your hair or scratches your skin?

Posted by EarnYourKeep on Jul-15-2008 17:31:

i think slippery/cracky joints sounds like symptoms of arthritis. the cartilage in your joints are breaking down, think when you crack your knuckle, you are cracking the cartilage in that joint. this also creates less lubrication in your joints which attribute to arthritis.

if u wanted to read about it

Yeah I'm def gonna get some. Surprisingly I have pretty nice hands, even after doing landscaping and stuff. But I guess it's from all the handwashing and subsequent moisturizing I do at work, heh.

+1 And you don't really build muscle around the joints. Joints are surrounded by ligaments (join bone to bone) and tendons (join muscle to bone), which are fibrous, non-muscular tissue. You can strengthen the ligaments and tendons, but you won't build muscle there.

Posted by Slylee on Jul-15-2008 18:18:

arthritis? what the fuck. should i go to a doctor?

i went to an ortho one time because i was having excrutiating knee & shoulder pain that came out of nowhere. like total stiffness and i couldn't move freely for over a week. he took an xray and was like, 'welp! it's not arthritis'

how can u tell that from just an xray?

*edit* actually it wasn't the ortho...it was the PA

well yea but it's common sense that if you build muscle tissue around ALL of that, it will help keep things in place more.

Posted by EarnYourKeep on Jul-15-2008 20:57:

I don't think you necessarily should go to the doctor but you should definitely work on stretching. arthritis usually starts in the hands and knees...sometimes the shoulders. it wouldn't hurt to get the opinion of a doctor and certainly can't hurt you to include glucosamine (w/MSM and Chondroitin).

I'm guessing xrays can show where the cartilage and bone meet and if there are any fluids/lube in that area to keep those joints from rubbing against each other. Most bodybuilders take it to aid the recovery of their bodies while they lift with the notion that the quicker the recovery the more time they can go back in and build up again.

I owned the gym tonight. Woot!

Washboard tummy here I come!

Posted by tubularbills on Jul-15-2008 21:43:

30 crunches (10 left side, 10 middle, 10 right side). run 400 meters. 30 crunches. run 400 meters. 30 crunches, 20 incline and decline pushups (10 of each). run 400 meters. 30 crunches. 20 pushups. run 400 meters.

25 minutes and you're spent.

Posted by stace on Jul-15-2008 21:44:

Fuck all that running. I hate running. running should be banned.
