Whoa whoa whoa...you can't afford to go to any of the shows and you're buying a blender!!! Come on, you don't need a blender to make a rum and coke!

I just moved back here from Texas a while ago. I'm guessing it's only 21+. Boo! I only have 2 more years! If any of the shows are 18+ I'd be down for a meetup (Unless I can get a fake ID!) Adult Swim is the shit, Sealab is the best, along with of course Family Guy. Any of you guys do any producing?

Posted by sinz1 on Oct-03-2003 13:11:

hey, can anyone tell me some decent clubs in the denver area? I'm from DC and am usually at glow but i'm back at CU now and i need to get my fix here. I know about the church but i've heard mixed reviews, so what's the TA consensus? and can anyone hook me up with some sort of fall schedule for the area, cause the church seems to suck at updating their shit.

Well I guess it depends on what you're lookin for. Big names, or vibe/atmosphere w/out some of the big name djs? Vinyl's roof collapsed last spring in the heavy snow that we got, it was pretty tight, they are taking their sweet fuckin time rebuilding it. I like the church, I think the idea of a club in the church is kick ass, however sometimes the crowd there can suck, and the lasers are fuckin terrible. In boulder, there used to be Soma, but it shut down, too bad cuz it used to draw the likes of hybrid, bt, nick warren, christopher lawrence etc.

This is the lineup that I currently am looking forward to this fall

*Edit just found out bout this one!*
James Zabiela Sat. Oct. 11th @ the Church
Armin Thursday Oct. 16th @ The Church
PvD Friday Nov. 7th @ the Fillmore
Hybrid Wed. Nov. 12th TBA
Ferry Thursday Nov. 13th @ the Church
Marco V Thursday Nov. 20th @ the Church

yeah, adult swim is badass...i havent seen it in a while though cuz i dont have cable anymore as far as producing i'm going to cu denver and majoring in music industry studies...also gonna take private synthesizer class and piano so i can learn melodies. after that i'm gonna just gonna purchase some programs like reason or cubase to get started...

yeah, there isnt much here besides the church and club vinyl...theres a place called the snake pit that has a dnb night or nights, but its a small place...it gets really crowded though. i think theres a club called club rise but ive never been. also theres a couple lounges that play funky house that are really cool. one called the funky buddha lounge and the other called appaloosa grill. appaloosa only has dj's on sunday though...it gets really crowded there too, its a cool place...the djs are fuckin good too. better than some of the warmup dj's ive heard at the church

Posted by sinz1 on Oct-03-2003 21:43:

what time do these clubs get going and what time do they close? and are there any good after party/ late night clubs that go later? ty for all the info thus far.

Posted by AntronVee on Oct-03-2003 22:13:

they start at 9pm and go till around 2am, then the after hour clubs open up. i only know of one. its a 1 min walk from the church. you just cross the street from the church and turn left in an alley to get there. its called 2am. there are others but i cant remember any right now. if you go to the church or record shops sometimes you can get a bunch of flyers that will give you all kinds of info.

Posted by DjGrl2000 on Oct-03-2003 23:12:

Yep, The Church's crowd usually sucks big time. The vibes of the people are snotty and uptight usually. That's why I don't go there unless there is a special event I want to see. I think maybe most of the shows will be 21 and up except for maybe the PVD show. That's going to be at The Fillmore not The church, and the Fillmore has all types of age limits.

What about that club called Alley Cats? I still haven't been there but I heard they play all techno/trance. I also heard that you usually have to bring a good amount of money to have a good time there.

Actually most of those events will be 18+ cuz they are on thursdays at the church and thats their 18+ night.

I've heard of alley cats, but i've never been there, a friend of mine has, she said its cool, but her knowledge of EDM isn't that extensive, so who knows if it was cheese or not.

Posted by sinz1 on Oct-04-2003 01:35:

they close at 2am? please tell me you're fuckin kidding....... is there a law that requires them to or something? wtf?!

Posted by farley on Oct-04-2003 01:44:

Nope, they all close pretty much b/c of the liqour license laws that stop sales at 2. Unfortunately, about the longest set we ever see is usually 2 and a half hours

Posted by sinz1 on Oct-04-2003 01:56:

wow, that surely is horrible news. so theoretically, they could stay open until whenever, but they'd have to stop selling liquor at 2? /me smells a business venture

At glow the opening dj usually goes on at 11pm, with the headliner going from 1-4:30 or so, but if it's a real big name like armin or tiesto they let them go until whenever they want. Then there's a 24 hour cafe that is pretty much a club all day sunday. Not trying to knock your scene, cause I'm definitely glad to have any scene at all, but that sucks if the crowd at the church is lame and it closes at 2am

Posted by farley on Oct-04-2003 02:16:

Knock it all you want man, it's not great. The Church is the best we have and it's not that good...and if any of our clubs could consistently pull anything but a fucking house dj it would be a miracle. Everywhere you go in this damn town...

I'd also want to venture into a decent record shop, although one nice one finally opened up they still have a pretty small selection. This towns scene sucks. I'm amazed we're getting as many big name djs that we are in the next few months.

when did you go there?? only time ive been to the church and the crowd was bad was when micro was spinning, bad commercial dj's seem to draw asshole crowds....other than that the shows i've been to the crowd seems normal to me. i've even had wasted people bump into me and then ask if i wanted to dance, no arguing or anything...ive even had complete strangers buy me drinks also, i've only been to the fillmore once and that was to see paul oakenfold way back when i was just getting into trance. the crowd there wasn't better than at the church....lotsa people thinking they're cool as shit, and also lotsa people wasted on pills...i can't even recall how many times i was asked if i was rolling there...but i'm asked that a lot whatever show i'm at for some reason

but yeah, closing at 2am sucks, but it is all we got 2am after hour club is fun for after hours though. last time i was there i was wasted outta my mind and all the people i talked to were nice. some girl even gave me her glowsticks on strings...which i hit myself in the face with dont try to spin glowsticks on strings around when wasted

bottom line, i think you kinda gotta make your own fun...at least in my experiences.

Ok, next question, for these bigger name DJs what's the story on getting in, are there tickets and if so is there anywhere to get them online? or is it just a cover at the door? also what's the story with guestlist, vip, etc.?

Posted by sinz1 on Oct-04-2003 05:40:

btw, sorry for all the questions, but i was under the impression that there wasn't much of a scene out here until a friend of mine linked me to this post so now i'm all fired up to go out.

Groovetickets is where you would get the tickets for the big name djs, usually its pretty cheap Sasha was $10, PvD was more expensive, it varies. . .

Lesser known djs its a cover at the door, $5 before 10 if you are 21+ and $10 after 10 if you are 21+ I can't remember the the prices for 18-20 cuz, they don't apply to me. I've never seen any type of guest list, other than if you had your ticket ahead of time, and as far as vip is concerned, I have only seen that once and that was on NYE, and I don't know what it entailed but I do know that it cost $75 more than the normal ticket, so I'd assume its a lot of alcohol on the house.

sweet, thanks alot man.

Posted by DjGrl2000 on Oct-05-2003 23:19:

Ok i picked up a flyer for the PVD show on november 7th, and it looks like there will be 5 djs opening for him. My question is, do any of you have any idea how long Paul might play? I think the tickets, before ticketmasters raping fees, will be about 40 bucks. I'm only going for him so I really hope he plays a long set.

Went to the church last night for a special event and finally had a good time there. No bullshit from anyone. I still don't really like the local djs. All of the fricken songs sound exactly the same with no variety. Half the time you can't even tell when one songs changes to another.

LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!

You are joking right? The hallmark of a good dj is seamless/flawless mixing!!! Along w/ good track selection, and flow.
