Any chance of Oakenfold spinning here any time soon? I still remember his awesome set around Halloween last year at Ruby Skye!

Posted by DaveT on Aug-31-2005 08:18:

You thought that set was awesome? Ohhh myyyyyyy. Sander K made Oakey look like a big ole turd that night. Oakie's set was boring, IMO.

Anyhow, no clue on when he'll be back. I really want to see him right now though because word is he's been playing some very nice sets. Man just never keeps his site updated and when he does update his tour schedule, at least 1/2 the dates are always missing.

So maybe the atmosphere (liked RS's atlantis theme) made the music that night more enjoyable...yeah, sander was also great! Why did you think Oakie's set was boring Dave?

Posted by DaveT on Aug-31-2005 21:22:

His track selection was just boring...

I tend to hate it when RS does those themes. They used to do them A LOT but thankfully they've stopped it seems.

The themes just made the whole place feel so much smaller than it already is. Plus with there are things like trees in the floor it's just things that get in the way. Or sand in the entrance making it a bitch to walk through there and annoying when you are wearing nice, expensive shoes.. I remember one night where trees lined up along the balcony upstairs blocking the view downstairs. Was ludicrous!

In the end, I just need good music w/ a good sound system and some cool trickery with the lighting. Ruby Skye's house lighting is obviously meant not to be trippy...more to add a subtle effect to the atmosphere and good for house music. Best night of lighting EVER at Ruby Skye was at Ferry in June. Spundae brought in a crazy laser that did all kinnndsss of stuff, was like 10 colors, and was still in the process of being built (only 1/3rd complete at the time). I bet we'll be seeing it at Love Parade (afterparty).

Here's some pics showing off the laser on the Ferry night...

Posted by toddtrance on Sep-01-2005 07:34:

I agree that RS should definitely keep the lighting system they used at the Ferry gig. Where you found the pics, because I appeared in a few of them? I liked Oakenfold's set, but I admit that there were a few problems: he used too many songs off the Creamfields album, and his energy level was like 10% of sander that night. Maybe Oakenfold needs a few red bulls before his set.

Those are my pics that either my girlfriend or I took.

Posted by toddtrance on Sep-01-2005 21:50:

I never bring a camera with me since I always find plenty of pics at
eventvibe and mvgals.net. You and your girlfriend take good photos though

Posted by DaveT on Sep-02-2005 00:30:

Yeah, those are with a cheap as camera.

But I recently just purchase a camera with a couple lenses, nice flash, etc...and it'll get it's first good club testing Saturday in LA....

My girlfriend is a photography nut.

just noticed that Airwave will be here on the 10th Excellent - Will be there !

Posted by toddtrance on Sep-06-2005 05:01:

Dave,
Forgot to ask how you can dance with the camera. I'm usually quite energetic on the dance floor and I wouldn't want the camera to get in the way of my mad skills. I also wouldn't take a chance having some drunk dickhead (esp. at Ruby Skye) break an expensive camera. I wouldn't want to have to kick that person's ass

Posted by DaveT on Sep-07-2005 04:32:

With the big camera, I'm pretty protective. If I have it and not my girlfriend, I'm usually walking around taking pics but being careful. Otherwise, usually getting shots from the booth area which is quite a bit more secure and safe.

As for dancing...just be sure to be careful. I have a good quality camera backpack that's crazy padded on the inside and the camera fits nice and tight in there so it's very secury and can take a lot of movement as long as it's not banging into stuff.

Anyhow, my girlfriend and I take turns with it (she's still learning the ins and outs...luckily I've worked in video production for years and a lot of the settings between SLR camera and some of our canon cameras at work a very similar. :-p). I still have a long ways to go myself. Was expecting only about 10% of all shots to come out good so using such a crazy camera in a nightclub has a steep learning curve, but was a bit higher percentage than that.
