The two Iberian teams always seem to never rise to the occasion and I don't think it will be any different this time around. They do have favorable draws, however until I see Portugal actually win on the international stage they are just pretenders like most of the 32 teams. I still can't believe they couldn't win Euro 04 with the whole nation behind them in their own country.

| Originally posted by NYCTrancefan okay I'm confused how is this the most boring group exactly, when you have Spain, Ukraine, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia Group H. Truth be told that maybe with the exception of Spain(and they are always inconsistent) would get beaten by the teams in Group E. So please elaborate on how its boring or did you intend to use another term. As a U.S. fan this draw sucks for us big time, but sometimes you have to face the tough tests to play with the big boys of World Football, I just hope the group doesn't turn out like Italia 90 for the U.S. Team Rank P W D L GF GA Pts Italy 1 3 3 0 0 4 0 9 Czechoslovakia 2 3 2 0 1 6 3 6 Austria 3 3 1 0 2 2 3 3 USA 4 3 0 0 3 2 8 0 Yikes, this group has all the makings of that same result, even if we get out of this group we would face Brazil if we finished 2nd. Well it will certainly be a good learning experience to see how far U.S. football has come as a passionate fan. I'll enjoy all the games. |

| Originally posted by paranoik0 I called it boring exactly because the first thing that came to my mind was Italy 90, the most boring defensive World Cup ever. I don't picture Ghana as a very offensive team neither. Dunno, it just doesn't look like this group it's going to produce many attractive games, hopefully I'm wrong. |
paranoik0 bro, you are gonna be wrong in many of your predictions, trust me
What are your predictions for Morocco's group?

Many underestimate teams like Ghana and Angola, I really hope they can prove that Africa is ready too show something spectacular, both now in the World Cup 2006 and their very first arrangement of a WC-tournament, the World Cup in 2010.
I would love too see Serbia go through together with Ivory Coast, when predicting, take consideration of their latest achievements, like for an example the qualifying stages.
Serbia won their group which included Spain and Bosnia, both teams played very even games with Serbia and the opposite. Serbia allowed only one goal in the Qualifying stage.
I remember Poland when they played very well in the WC qualifying stage in Europe and easily made it through to the WC in Japan/Soth Corea. Now, my only worry is that we'll start the World Cup bad, and we haven't exactly got the luck against Netherlands (They knocked us out in the WC98 in France after a lucky and devestating goal by Davids), we were also knocked out by the same Netherlands in 2000, they crushed us that time with 6-1, but we had too old players.
What we've got now is a fresh team with a great harmony in the squad according to Petkovic. If they can keep their play up and do their thing, then I'm pretty much assured that we're going to make it through. Nothing is impossible, and just take a look at Sweden back in 2002, they made it through the group of death, so it's time to think well organized and well planned.
Our defence is one of the best in Europe atm, not many very well known defenders like for an example the Italian/English players, but we've got Krstajic and Nemanja Vidic in the middle of the defence. Mladen Krstajic can play on the right side, just like he does in Schalke.
We've got Dejan Stankovic who's a great techincal and pretty physical at least in the Serbian national-team who takes alot of responsability together with Olympiakos-midfielder Predrag Djordjevic. Both players can play offensive, allthough Stankovic is more defensive than Djordjevic in the national team.
We can always take some of the U-21 players and give them the chance to be at least on the bench in the World CUp 2006. One guy that I'm thinking of is Bosko Jankovic that is pure class meanwhile. Energetic, fast and very good overall, plays for Red Star Belgrade atm.
Nikola Zigic is without doubt one of the upcoming stars in Serbian football, the man whose actually 202cm tall doesn't loose any duells in the air. He has very good technique for being 202cm tall and he can strike from every single distance, just take a look at the goal he scored against Roma the other weak.
Zigic is most probably going to play together with our maybe biggest star, Mateja Kezman. He came from Chelsea after a very hard year where he wasn't given many minutes. He's got the chance in Atletico de Madrid and I hope he continues too produce, Just like last weekend against Bilbao. It's a great combination with these two on the top, one is strong, tall and takes everything in the air, the other one is explosive and can score on every single chance he gets.
We've also got Savo Milosevic on the bench if this wouldn't work, he's doing very well in the Spanish League in Osasuna. They're currently 2nd after Barcelona, I still think they're on the same point..
He's another player that's come back after a injury. Then we've got Darko Kovacevic, the powerfull Sociedad-attacker who scored alot of goals in the Spanish League a couple of seasons ago. I'm not expecting very much from Darko, because he's injured for about 4 months or something like that. I'll be glad if he makes the World Cup team in time, because he can be pretty useful.
Not to mention Mirko Vucinic that has started to score again for Lecce. He can also be used by Petković, I hope he gets a fair chance and that he can prove what he can, so he can leave that piece of crap club, Lecce.
I do admire the guys great attitude after being given the groups tonight, most of them are really positive and is going to enjoy every single moment of the World Cup in Germany next year.
Alot of Serbs live in Germany and I hope alot of them get as many tickets as possible, I'm almost positive they're going to take chance to finally see Serbia on the big scene after a couple of years of silence.
I admire Petković for his great work with Serbia, He's given them new identitys and I certainly hope they can keep them so that we can beat the best. It's all about believing in yourself, we can do this.
NAPRED PLAVI!

OK Paranoik.
I still don't think teams should be underestimated, it's still a big rivality between Portugal and Angola and you know that. It can change a game totally depending on how big it is.
They probably won't make it through the group, but I wouldn't count them out, many of us didn't knew alot about Senegal and look what they did last time. But as you're saying you know the players, I won't be talking about this anymore. It's obvious that you know it better than me becaus they play in the Portuguese 1st and 2nd leagues, Heh
There isn't really much rivality. Or well, there wasn't. Until like 2 years ago they came to Portugal for a *FRIENDLY* match and ended up with 4 sendings off in the first half for brutal tackles (at some point they were making aggressions left right and centre just so that they would end up with less than 7 players on the pitch), their fans thrashing the whole stadium, and the match ending before the 90 minutes. If i remember right all this nonsense cause there was some doubtful refereeing decision against them (disallowed goal or something).
I really hope we beat our goalscoring record against them.
Heh, I do remember that match. Fucking hilarious too see them behave like they did

Nice group for Spain. Saudi Arabia, nothing to do, and Tunisia, not many possibilities. Spain and Ukrania might qualify easy.
