Got this over the weekend. Very nice. Antikythera Mechanism is my fave, love the gentle melodies at the beginning then BOOOM!!!!!!! Big orchestral drums and bass and everything hit you out of no where, stunning!!!

I'm listening to it right now. I hanve't been throught the entire cd yet, but it sounds heavily inspired by IDM/experimental electronic music. So it doesn't come across as incredibly original and new or whatever to me. Still pretty interesting though, perhaps I'll grow to like it after listening to it some more. It's definetly more interesting that his last piece of shit album.

It's a bit more melodic i'de say though than most IDM/experimental is. It has that influence, but after a few listens to this, i've definitely found it much more enjoyable than the vast majority of IDM/experimental music IMO.

The innovation on the record is mostly on a technical level.

Yeah, I pretty much agree. Most IDM/experimental electronica has too many weird time signatures and really lacks melody for my taste. This cd is definetly an interesting in the sense that it combines aspect of IDM with alot more melody, making it very listenable. I'm sure it'll grow on me after a few more listens.

Yeah it's that kind of CD....something that requires you to just sit back, and listen to intently. The music is best listening to at night time with headphones on. I listen to it in my car though, sounds pretty sweet while driving at night.

I don't really like the placement of

See You On The Other Side...

it should have been earlier, or not at all and he could have built the mix up a little more adding a track after The Antikythera Mechanism then the mix would be pretty flawless.

With head phones isn't bad but if you have a decent surround sound system it can really open up some of the music. My first couple listens were in my car and i thought crap i spent 15 bucks on this. Then i threw the dvd in and it changed my view of it. Now i like the cd version too. (BTW i talking a good system and not some Walmart special. I have an Onkyo 6.1 reciever going to paradigm 12inch sub and millenia 200 speakers, over thousand watts baby.) The more i listen the more i like the album.

This album + Sennhesier HD-25's =

I didn't think much of this album until listening to it through a quality set up. Great album.

I just got this a few days ago. It's absolutely amazing.

Posted by Porky on Nov-08-2006 23:09:

wow, great album...

the crown jewel of the album is most definitely The Antikythera Mechanism... epic!!!

Good Morning Kaia, was decent, but I appreciated the song alot more after seeing the video. so heartwarming.... it's nice to see artists espouse pure noble intentions (like parenting), instead of all the sex/drugs from other genres.

Me and my friends went to a screening in Hollywood awhile back put together by deviantart and BT himself

Incredible and amazing night I'll never forget

Hearing it in 5.1 is amazing and most everyone was in tears after Good Morning Kaia

Beautiful album that ill be listening too forever = )

Finally got my hands on this.

It is nothing short of incredible. BT has a lot to be proud of.

How good is the video portion of the release?

Posted by PETRAN on Dec-04-2006 14:25:

I consider this album to be the second best after "Ima". I always thought of BT as a mediocre EDM artist as the majority of his albums didn't have much to offer (except ofcourse for "ima" and maybe "ESCM").This album though is really stunning!

I like how BT uses scientific concepts for his song-titles. Coupled with the overall electronic epic listening you somehow get strong sci-fi imagery and hollywood "star-gate like" epic scenes in your mind.

But yea the titles are great. "Dynamic Symmetry" is a natural proportional design system that is based on the "Fibonacci sequence" and as a result to the magical number "Phi", or, "1,618..." which is another great tune of the album!

The "internal locus" is an extension of the psychological concept of the "locus of control" which information can be found here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locus_of_control

It was developed by Psychologist Julian Rotter in the 50s. According to Rotter, people always attribute the situations and make decisions in reference to two "loci" the "external" or the "internal". People whose attributes and decisions are based in "external loci" are those who are literally guided by their environments rather then by themselves e.g. "i scored bad on the exam because the questions were difficult"or "BTs new album is good because various TAs say so" whereas the opposite is true for an "internal locus"("loci" is the latin plural of "locus") e.g. "i scored bad on the exam because i haven't studied" or "BTs new album is good because i like the aesthetic qualities of the new album's music". The "external" and "internal" loci are not stable, discrete entities. They rather represent a continuum in which people could fall in between or have an overall behavioural style (e.g. personality) that is more representative of one "locus". (Depressive people are known to feel helpless and not capable of leading their lives, that is, they over-attribute theit behaviour to "external loci" rather to "internal" ones, they feel like "puppets" in the hands of random chaotic puppeters-that is-people and circumstances.)

And a bit of archaeology, "the Antikythera Mechanism"

( picture and information can be found here)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antikythera_mechanism

is the most ancient analogue computer in the history of humanity! It was discovered by the greek archaeologist Valerios Stais at the beginning of the 20th century in the island of "Antikythera" in Greece, which, guess what, is situated opposite to the island of "kythera" ("Anti"-"Against"). One theory attributes its creation to the ancient greek philosopher and scientist "Poseidonius", a great thinker who was based in the island of Rhodes. Other archaeologists have supported the view that the current mechanism was designed by the famous Archimedes who it happened to be a friend of Poseidonius.

The "Antikythera Mechanism" is an analogue mechanism of great complexity and complex design which puzzled archaeologists for years. Its exact function is still unknown, but scientists suspected that it was used for complex astronomical calculations, that it was an "astrolabe". In a recent article i've red in New Scientist, a team of scientists now propose that maybe it was used to predict eclipses of the sun and/or the moon. Either way, the current mechanism is the earliest computer in the history of humanity, dating back to 150-100 BC. It's great mystery even made some people like Erich Von Daniken to propose their usual crackpot theories of alien influences in the ancient earth, something that i find extremely funny.

Whatever the Antikythera Mechanism is, the track in this album is a really GREAT track! That's for sure!

After reading all this hype, I *had* to go listen to it, and boy I must say that it was some pretty boring music. What exactly was so "stunning, magnificent, "A MASTERPIECE"" about this? I guess it's one of those albums that requires another listen. Maybe i will get high and see the deeper truth to this album like that which you people are proclaiming.

I bet you missed a decent kick drum eh? dummy

If you like this album then you should def. try ALL the Albums by the best IDM artist of all times who is...yes...BOLA!Ofcourse they are not enineered to that extend as BTs new album (you are not going to find crisp orchestral passages) but they show such beautifull complex ambient that canno't be described in words. In a matter of fact the concept is same. I can't imagine what this guy (BOLA) could do if he had BTs equipment! He happens to be Autechre's engineer as well, but IMO he is 1000 better then Autechre and Aphex twin together. listen to samples of his re-released album "shapes" here, but go for the other albums as well,"Soup", "Fyutti","Gnayse" they are all excellent!it's like whole organic worlds enclosed in a single cd! Samples:

http://shop.skam.co.uk/acatalog/Bola_Shapes.html

Also try Telefon Tel Aviv and albums like "Fahreneight Fair Enough". These are more organic with pianos and orchestras and stuff. As you can see the stuff that BT does are not so new. they were done by IDM artists for years now.The truth is that they don't have this crystal-clear engineered sound that BT has in his new album. Production-wise this album sets very high standarts. The ideas were there though...

Also if you like BTs noisy reverbed windy ambient moments then try "Labradford", "Stars of the Lid" and "Windy and Carl"...atmospheric, dark ambient at its best...especially ladradford's "Prazision" and "A Stable Reference". The second one is one of my favorite albums of all times.
