The sad thing is, I'm not a veteran. These are all from before I got into EDM. I was still listening to Phish back then.

We both know what the other meant. Anyhow, who that wrote a poor review in this thread complains about every trance event that they attend. As I said before, a lot of the people who complained about this gig aren't really board regulars, so that's why I'm curious.

THIS PARTY WAS REVIEWED FOR THE MONTREAL-TAs

Why... WHY !!!!!!!

Why does this idiot of PvD hates us ?
Why when he comes here (he never does anyway) he plays with a bitchy attitude ?
Why doesn't he perform in Montreal like he did in NYC ?

Yup ! He was great.

Review of friday

I didn't brought my camera in case i wasn't allowed.
It was such a nice evening. The perfect temperature to party outside.
Sad part is that the show only lasted from 6 to 10pm. I thought it would have been a 6h set like for Armin. I couldn't believe it when I saw saw Paul entering the stage with a smile and waving his hand to the crowd. When he's in Montreal he is always with bitchy mood when barely looks at us. He started his set with some chilling stuff to warm up the crowd and then made a progression into what he is known to play. He did a great job but I wasn't that amazed. He droped some classics as usual and also some club hits that I wasn't expecting him to play like *cough* FlashDance *cough*. But on the moment, believe you would have been like : WWOOOOOO !!!!! cause he was mixing them so well in his set (for sure it was all edited in advance) . On the stage with him, there was a drummer playing over his set with his drums to add a more percussion/tribal feel to the party. It was related to the console, so Paul was controling its volume whenever he feeled like adding the drum over the tracks. It was really nice. The place wasn't that packed but maaaaannn it was a long wait to go take a piss. Beer was awful like at Armin's but I didn't took any this time (me smart).
Overall, it was a nice party, cool to Paul into it. The set was recorded for Sirius satellite radio and should be available on the net sometime soon.

Review of saturday

This time I brought my camera.
It was pretty much the same except it was raining a little (refreshing). I could say the place was practically sold out. The people were more into it and so was Paul. He did a more techy trancy set than friday. Of course he droped the same club hits and classics. At one point in his set... there was a technical problem and suddenly, NO MORE SOUND ! OUPS !!! I think it was his laptop that crashed. It lasted for nearly 5 min. I have it all on video. HAHA Its a luck for him that he had a drummer on stage with him... The drummer saved his ass for those 5 min.
**Message for the drummer: When you go on solo at an electronic event... Play some fuckin Tech shit ! not just slow boring breakbeat!**
I will post my pictures and videos real soon.
once again, the set was recorded for Sirius radio.

Song of the weekend : Dogzilla - Without You
not new but DAAAAMMMN its sooo good

DarV, DK Man and Trancegal were there. (feel free to review your weekend)

Once again, it was a great experience to live and I suggest to everyone to support outdoors EDM events even if its during the day...

ok after reading these posts sigh...

i ll say this, i ve been listenin to paul for a long time he was my fav dj for many years ferry being a CLOSE second after last yrs performances ferry became my #1 however the paul that i grew up listening to is always gonna be my #1 not this new style paul when i try to explain the difference between the two pauls ppl look at me like im clueless (maybe cause they weren t into the scene before his transistion and have not heard what he is really capable of going shame) thanks ryan for postin those sets another one i ll throw in there is rosenmontags 2000 granted its not as technically good as others he has done but it shows the progression in a set, now for this wkend i only managed to see him on fri an i must say i enjoyed his set and believe me when he sucked i acknowledged it hence y ferrys my #1 since hes consistant. i have realized that to see many djs not just him u shouldn t go listen to all their recent sets because u already know what the tracklist is gonna be that being said comparing last yrs ss to this yrs it was night and day i enjoyed the drummer it was a nice touch an for him to keep up with the beat all nite long thats hellahard! it was something different i mean come on how many other djs have actually tried to incorporate something else into their set ? i usually don t do reviews just read an i must say that reading these it seems like everyone has something to bitch about an tend to belittle others who don t share the same feelings i just have to say one thing ITS A FUCKING PARTY ur there to have fun not walk around an see what lil things u can find wrong with it i mean those that went fri think bout this... during his set did he play crush and nyb? how many of u complained for him not to play it SH*T him not playing those tracks made it 3 times better and ok playing tool eh.... to me i can tolerate it if when he drops it its played at the right time and if ppl sing along well... (u get my drift)fridays set he went all over he played hard he slowed the tempo to a hip hoppish sound which at first when he slowed it down im like wtf but as he kept goin i was feeling it think when (on the sat of armin tobacco wh) towards the end when it kept skipping armin then armin changed it to sound like he ment to do that (granted it was to save the track) but it was along those lines paul had the cajones to try something new an ppl knock him on it. his track list was decent it wasnt anything like what it use to be during early 00s but it kept me moving the whole nite which is the main thing im concerned about when i go out to parties nowadays him playing michel nicols - time brought me back to april 2003 when he played that i def didn t expect that from him an had the crowd jumping i mean i could go on an on bout the night but its late an i don t have the time to share my whole views bout the wkend

granted for the record i would like to see him downgrade his equipment to cds an vinyl but whatever ppl in hell wish for icewater it ain t gonna happen

Upon the posting of 'old' PVD sets, I dragged out some of mine to have a listen to...

PVD & Judge Jules @ Gatecrasher '01

I don't have a link for it, and it's short (~26mins on my set) but OMFG the energy is intense...
If anybody has a link (or the entire set) to post, I, and many other people, would be greatly appreciative.

On the other hand, you're right about one thing: they should get out of THAT scene. The PVD scene. I am such a biased person, sorry.

yea definitely got out of there. i'd rather listen to stuff you can dance to. i've been to alot of events, not nearly all, not even a good percentage, but i get up to new york as much as possible, and i've never thought that an event was terrible. last year i thought this event was great. this year nobody seemed to have a good time if they had seen it last year or had been to armin's event.

i noticed in all the videos posted you can see how few people are actually into it. thats how it was. everybody who was fucked up was moving around ("dancing") but then most people were standing there. i had so many conversations with people about the poor track selection. i figured it was a majority opinion. but then again, i guess this whole disagreement involves like 15 people, so maybe it still is.

i try not to care whether my opinion is even near correct, but i just still can't imagine why somebody wouldn't think that the show was subpar.

but to be fair, his set may have gotten better towards the end, because when darkness rolled around, i rolled out shortly thereafter and was standing outside, not really giving a shit about the event anymore, just with a bunch of ppl who were outside. they were dancing, i was sitting with a few of them. i just never got that urge to get up, he played nothing that made me have a great time. maybe i'm too needy. i'll just stick to events where i'm assured a fun time. see you at crobar in october!

That is actually what I prefer. But, once in a while parties like this are a blast too...they just have their time and place. Trust me, when M.A.N.D.Y. or Tiefschwarz are in town I'll be there for that too.

Posted by sandstorm03 on Aug-23-2006 18:02:

i thought people were complaining cause he wasn't trancey enough and because he doesnt play super hard techno tracks like

dreamland
club attack
desire (4 strings mix)
M (above and byond mix)
sun decade - i'm alone
modulation - spirits
st john vs locust - mind circles

anymore

Posted by sandstorm03 on Aug-23-2006 18:59:

I don't know what this is but should Part A = 4 strings - hurricane

My Favorite, ID Needed Part A = don diablo down the drain

just go look at the videos, see the differences from 05 and 06. makes me realize that 05 was a blast, i had no complaints at all except that i wished it was longer. 06 just didn't even hold a candle to last year =/.

I can agree with that, especially at the big festivals in Europe for example

Although PVD sucked @ Dance Valley 2005 too and I even checked that out for 30 whole mins...

Some of your videos on you tube are mislabeled in case you care. They say they are from 2006 but when I viewed them I noticed they are from 2005

Thats cause the vids from last year I uploaded like in march, and copy/pasted titles, and one typo lead to lotsa typos. I have tried to edit the titles many times sometimes they say 05 sometimes 06; it's kind of a pain in the ass. Up until now, I got a message just about every week from some cocky wise ass "how'd ya get video in the future??"..
