Have you read the book of Last Night a DJ saved my life?

Have you read that book???

I think you need to sitdown for a week and take a lot of research.

Hes not number 1 because the music he plays isnt as, how do I say this diplomatically, accessable I spose, as the stuff Armin etc play. The majority of the people who vote in these polls tend to be quite new to the EDM scene and so listen to the big names and the accesable music.

Perhaps youre right, perhaps to get people to vote for you, you do have to act. However this just shows how much these polls have nothing to do with actual DJ skill and everything to do with promotion/personality.

GREAT person that eats food must have both of persons-that-eat-food skill and chef knowledge.

there are a universe of different between a GREAT person that eats food and a person that eats food.

I eat food!

Reggae, disco, hip hop, house, techno, drum n bass, garage, these forms born and bred not by the musician but surprisingly by the DJ's.

these genre didnt emerge from some jam session epiphany: they came from the DJ truing every trick in the book to keep hold of the dancefloor - his high maintenance lover.

In the early 90's most dance music were house music. Look at now, in ONLY FOR 10+ years, there are so many new genre!

What happened here?

many trance song are going better and better. you can listen the early 90's trance a and compare to "today" trance. there are a lot of differences.

This improvement is not by the musician but by the DJ's.

lol

Yes, but still, it is as biased to compare djing with musicianship as it is to compare a mechanic with a football-player. The fact that both djing and musicianship are concerned with music doesn't mean that they can be directly compared, not at all, a comparison like that is inherently biased.

Each one is a completely different thing. They both have their own specific domain-specific performance.Yes they both need skill and time to develop but the so-called "skill" of one represents quite different abilities in comparison to the "skill" of the other . Football,Tennis,Chess and Tetris players need time and practice in order to develop their "skills" but that doesn't mean that we can directly compare them. This would be seriously flawed. A football player needs to develop his perceptual and motor abilities as well as his masculature and overall fitness whereas a chess-player needs to sustain a large long-term memory of semantic information of previous games and positions and to flexibly apply problem-solving and reasoning skills.

The same applies to DJing and playing and Instrument.

An instrumemtalist should have a good knowledge of music theory, a good memory of what everything sounds in relation to another, and should apply and convert this knowledge in real-time fast motor responses while receiving feedback from his/her own playing. This real-time "sensori-motor" coordination and concurrent real-time applying of music-theory from memory can be very demanding. This is possibly the reason that an instrumentalist-e.g. a pianist-could take many many years to develop his/her skills. A Djs abilities are mostly based in his musical taste and love for good music,in building a good flow with that music (good building of tension and release), in coordinating good beat-matching, in "reading" a crowds reactions and responding accordingly. It's quite evident that these two are very different domains. They are both demanding but in different aspects.

Very well said! And I somewhat retract my sort of DJ'ing = musical instrument rant. But I suppose what I truly meen, is that DJ'ing to be as musical and as possible or if you will...to be a DJ with the most skill, one must take the craft as serious as a instrumentalist would, just in other fields perhaps. My issue is that while there are 1000's of shitty guitar players who love to just play power chords and drop D metal and what not, there are what seems to be hundreds of thousands of DJ's who really frankly suck, and I find it to be a shame to those who have taken the time to really develop their craft just as I find it sad to see such shitty musicians truly think they are absolutley fantastic at playing, when they havent taken any time at all to realize where they stand and what people have done before them.

Of course this meens less competition if you will, but I would rather be in a town full of great DJ's playing great music which would cause me to up my ante a bit rather than to be surrounded by shit

arrogant? maybe..true...very much so

any links? Yousendit?

If you've read the books and understand them, you should be able to put forward the arguement that you want, whatever it may be. Use quotes if necessary, or if you're not yet completely confident in your knowledge of english.

You shouldn't just use your claim to having researched as being enough to put down everyone else's comments. You should be using the understanding and knowledge that you've acquired through your extensive research to do it.

When I ask a question such as "Why people love to vote Tiesto and Armin?" Actually I already know the answer. I just want to test you.

Later, you will cry because what I'm saying is accurate.

Most of my knowledge is from the truely secret fact. Either you want to believe it or not, its up to you.

So you came on a webforum, just to tell everyone in it that their attitudes regarding a certain issue was shit, generate a reaction, but not actually justify it.

You just wanted to let us know that you know better than us, smile politely, and wave goodbye.

nice.

and you soooo clearly do

a person like us, judge a DJ from many perception such as production, ability of DJing, entertain, etc. I don't care if he act like shit, I'm the one who vote him.

Do you see the problem out there?

If a POPULAR DJ have a GREAT ACT, no matter what music he play, good or bad, people are going crazy for it. People are going nuts for his POPULARITY + ACT. Later they will say "Ohhh, he is great! look at that!!! He is so amazing! from now on, I'm his fans! and I love him", especially for girls.

another is when one person vote that DJ, the other will follow. This is the real problem. They follow. They know a DJ from mouth to mouth, from shit to shit.

A person who TRULY love and understand the art of DJ, will have their own perception, they have THE SOUL for that. This is what I called "The Art Lover"

are you the one?

I wish we could all 'debate' like idiots.

Beethoven, you're my hero. You're clearly right in everything you say, whatever it is you say, even if you contradict yourself and make no sense. Thanks for stating the obvious and saying its not true then saying it is, i really needed to not understand nothing you don't say.

I am crying, yes because you are accruate
and because you are an idiot, i weep

Woah, hold the phone, are you agreeing with me now? The point your trying to make there gets kinda lost in the bad Egrish you're typing in but it seems like you're just contradicting yourself.
