The city is cracking down on clubs where there are sound complaints. Anyone know the status of Club Six? Last I heard it was going to close because it was still like 5db over the limit after they spent ike $200,000+ on sound proofing the place.
I know of other clubs who the city is hassling, too.
Back to the green room, in the end everything was kept in check. Just some people think they have the right to be in the booth, and don't see it as a privilege that you can get one night and not the next. Yeah, I personally get a lot of access...and yeah, sometime I even have to ask about it (cause it never hurts to), but I just about always say to whoever I am asking that they can so no. Never have any hard feelings and never hassle about it. And I've been told no before. Even at Spundae events. Sometimes it's just how things are.
Just because you know someone at the club, or know someone in the booth does not give you any right just to barge in. Feel free to come up and inquire at the door, but if you are told you can't come in without a wristband or at the very least w/o expressed permission, don't even bother arguing back. It's not going to help your cause.
One thing I caught a few times were people swapping wristbands when they would go down on the floor so their friend could come in. NOT COOL.
Ten15 needs to get designed wristbands like Ruby. I caught two people who tried to get in with wristbands of their own. If I didn't recognize a person or know how they got their wristband, I would straight up ask them where they got it and maybe even take a look at it. Totally busted two dudes trying to get in with wristbands that were the same color as the ones handed out, though the end of them (the sticky part) was different and because of that it was easy to bust them.
Yay Sean for bringing an entourage. :-p Big thanks to Robert for helping me work that out. Oi!
If someone says you need a wristband as you enter w/o realizing who you are (maybe because whoever is running the booth never got a good look at you), do not be disrespectul in return and all snappy. UGH. No hard feelings over that incident, though.
For god's sake, do not do light shows in the booth. At least around me. I just see it as giving a bad perception about the club. The way I see it is that if you are given extra access, it's your responsibility to be respectful to the venue. What if some cop decided to take a stroll through the place (with the venue's permission) and walked in on that. How would that reflect on the venue. Maybe others are OK with it, but to me it's not cool.
If you have a wristband and are asked not to come in, just be patient. This is done when the booth gets too crowded/chaotic. It's not because you aren't wanted up there. It's just a matter of keeping things in check overall.
Oh jesus please paint the booth walls black again. Or maybe grey. The white walls are just weird, lol.
Next time if I do it again, I think I might be a bitch and print out a set of rules and post them on the doors (bringing multiple copies cause it's bound to get ripped down) to make the rules on if it's OK to just walk into the booth loud and clear.
Haha.
Wheeeeeeeeee......
It was a fun night overall, though. Guess that's what's important.

the green room
ok i just hope that i wasn't part of the green room trouble... like i said i was in there for the first time, and i hope i wasnt givin u too much trouble, Dave. i didnt even try to go in, although i had a wristband, and i didnt make my way in there until i was invited to come in by ismael... well i know some of you TA's dont really know who i was or how i look like ETC... so i hope that me being in the green room for the first time as an unfamiliar face does not bring u guys trouble... anyways... hope u still had a somewhat fun night, Dave T, i know how stressfull those situations can be
the way i look at stage/booth access (wherever i go) is that it is a priviledge and a gesture of respect on behalf of the promoter and i try to reciprocate that gesture every time by being respectful myself to everyone else up there, keeping the walkway clear, helping out when and where i can (especially with spill hazards or when the dj needs something) and by trying to add to the vibe and energy back there as opposed to detracting from it. as fortunate as i've been to have access to 1015's green room and other backstage areas, i've never once developed the mindset that i have a right to be anywhere. i also notice at other places that people who do have that mindset are the first to be denied on a strict night. there have been nights where i've been turned down from the green room and it's on these nights that people will really show their colors. when security is gatekeeping the green room, the last thing they want to do is stand there and have someone without a wristband yelling an explanation into their ear when their enforcement rules are black and white: no wristband, no access. their role is to constantly scan the floor making sure the assholes get kicked out and everyone else remains safe. they can't do that when someone is yelling a bunch of words that mean nothing to them into their ear. above all else, people should recognize that the guy with the wristbands has a full plate making sure everything else runs smoothly the whole night and that patience is a virtue. the worst thing you can do is try to stop him and ask for a wristband when he's clearly preoccupied with something more important. other than a few people trying to worm their way up without a wristband, i thought the booth was pretty well controlled for most if not all of the night. this speaks nothing of how much energy it took to maintain that control though. only dave and taz would know that

"He's playing my fucking track!!!" over and over again... Needless to say, I met Kyo. He was like a little kid for 5 minutes there, lol. :-p Sean played Gil La's and Kyo's track during his actual recording, so I'd expect it on this mix CD? :-p Also, someone called Sean on the phone when he was leaving and waiting for Thomas to get his car and he just went off on how everything was so awesome. ![]() Lastly, for some reason I had the impression that Sean was tall dude. I was wrong. |

I thought everyone did a great job at being under control for the most part on Saturday. I been so busy since I got home Sunday morning... went to a corporate interview for a bigwig executive company this morning in Mt. View... Wish me luck guys.. Hey can I use you guys as my reference? hehe.
Dave did a great job at keeping everyone out of the booth during Seans recording of his set. Sean opted to warm up the crowd a bit, and make adjustments while he was there.
When I got there to the club, I levelled things on both my pc and the mixer, and tapered off with a piece of tape so that I would not go over the 2 level mark on the mixer. If I did, the sound would have become distorted and it would clip. because it was a live recording, I wanted to make sure that everything was level so all we would have to do is
I got to the club around 8:45, enough time to make it around the corner for the dinner, but ended up staying at the club to test out the sound and do last minute sound checks. Besides also, Lynn and my group of friends werent hungry again, and had already started consuming booze. If you guys would have gotten to the club earlier, you would have heard me screaming in the middle of the mainroom all by myself to make sure the sound was ok. Needless to say, if we ever do get another chance to do another live sound recording, 1015's ready to go.
Taz approached me a few times when the booth was full, I told him we had it under control and that everything was fine. I remember when I met Dave a long time ago too... my friends were saying the same thing too "I hate that guy, he keeps kicking me outta the booth"....
Dave thanks for bringing back old memories for me... and helpin Sat again! hehe
FUCK THE NEIGHBORS. People who move next to nightclubs are retards. I firmly beleive these people should not have the right to complain, they moved in... so deal with it. Its kinda like saying if you live by a trainstation,.. ya kno?
Before I started my set, I was greeted by 3 lovely ladies from Chicago, who Taz brought in to take photos. I think they are in a photo with Matt in one of em Gil took.
Anyhow, Thanks again for everyone coming out on Sat... Ill be in contact with Sean for his CD release and ill try to get as many copies as I can.
P.S. Matt and TDizzle, be sure you guys dont forget your murces....
Well, I just hope that anyone who was asked to go down to not take it personal. I was just trying to keep control. Especially during the first half of Sean's set when everyone and their mother who regularly gets in the booth tried to get in. I had to ask people I've known for quite some time to get down...
...as traffic in the booth calmed down during some periods, getting in was a bit more lax until traffic in the booth picked up again and then had to send those who were let up during the lax period down. I always try to give everyone who has shown a lot of support all the access I can, but the booth is only so big. Sorry. Should move the lighting controls upstairs so both sides of the booth can be used, lol.
I've helped control the booth at Ten15 at random points for the past 5 years or so now. I remember when there were no wristbands. Yet, it was easier back then it seems. :-p
To the person who Rizo says hates me, you would have been totally fine to stay when you came up later. Booth traffic was mellow and I know who you are and know you go to Ten15 a lot and hang out with the TAs. Just the first time you two came up, it was at a peak time for the booth and things had to be kept strict and in order at the moment. The person who was with you came back up later and I had no issues. But didn't see you come back up and stick around.
Everyone knows that I'm typically very nice. And I mumble a lot. And that's when I'm sober (note: Not ONE drink Saturday night, YAY me. Can't remember the last time I didn't have at least one drink, lol. I was just too wiped from SvD to drink. And hurting. lol) If I am ever getting snotty on a personal level, feel free to punch me people. I'll admit that when I first moved to SF, I was a bit smug. Thankfully my brain naturally kicked its own ass and over a couple years that went away. What's funny is that I never noticed it but everyone I knew back then gradually started telling me how I had changed as a person, and for the better. Yay SF and it's laid back roots and making me a better person.
Whenever I move to SoCal, if I ever start acting different from moving down there kick me in the face please. No offense LATAs.
BTW, I have a document I wrote with me rambling on with what would be my booth rules if I could post them on the booth doors. Problem is, it's far too much for any clubber to just sit there and read. Wonder if I should post it, lol. It's 2+ pages and 1200+ words of rules. The rules are pretty standard, just well explained in case you are dumb.
Dave
