Any producer who makes Techno right now, crafts his music towards his favorite DJ or Venues of the moment. People dont just sit in their studios making techno because it gives them a boner, they make it because they aim to have the DJ's they make it for buy and play their tunes, and to hear their local DJ's play their tracks out. Even those local DJ's likely inspired local scene artists to create tracks to be played out by them. And if those producers follow the bigger scene, its the likes of Sashweed and other prominent DJ's that push producer's to take up the sounds that they spin.

Given that all these sounds exist persistently whether they are in the background for the forefront. Where do you think the movements in sound come from? Who dictates what DJ's like Digweed play?

I really want to grab this quote and send it to all the producers I know and ask them what they think. I find it hilarious that you speak on behalf of all of their artistic intentions.

You're being specifically vague because you have jack shit to back up your claim.

Carl Craig, does not make music for Sasha & Digweed. Guy Gerber does not make music for Sasha & Digweed. Radio Slave does not make music for Sasha & Digweed. Loco Dice does not make music for Sasha & Digweed. The list goes on and on...

Pretty regularly, actually. Just none that have anything to do with you.

Although, the continued irony of your responses is worth a good chuckle every now and then, which at least provides some amusement to those of us who have to endure the fact that every single thread you participate in, you ruin.

I don't think you can take it this far...

I know that I make the stuff I do primarily because (1) the process of making music is one of the most rewarding activities I've found regardless of the results and (2) it's a great feeling to know that other people found something interesting or enjoyable in what I've made.

If something I make ends up getting signed or played by DJs, that's a pleasant bonus but it's certainly not my main goal. And I think that there are quite a few other producers who feel the same way I do.

I think it is far more difficult, as LionsLair is finding out, to find the opposite.

I spend hours making music that some people might never hear, but I enjoy making it. So I know what your talking about. What you missed in my post is the qualifier "every single producer that makes upfront club music." That means they make music to be played at the clubs of the time.

And Clovis dont forget to ask DJ's who make music for the clubs. There is a difference between them and those who make the music for artistic reasons, which is probably your argument, but it overlooks the whole point of the current discussion, which is... what dictates the movement of a producer's club sound.

Yeah I'll ask radio slave if he makes his tracks for Sasha & Digweed when I see him in detroit this weekend. Second thought, I won't, at the risk of sounding like a complete idiot.

If you're going to put it that way, then it's just a tautology:

"People who make music specifically to get it played in clubs of their day cater to the tastes of the DJs who will be playing in those clubs."

That's kind of stupefyingly obvious, isn't it?

The argument doesn't even hold much today, because by and large producers are touring DJs/performers themselves, and they're almost always making music for themselves to play, which, if other people like, is great.

Why would you say Sasha or Digweed, no one has tied everything down to them. Go ahead ask him about his favorite DJ's, and if they influenced his sound or if he has crafted tracks that fit their sound. Depending on the context in which you present the question, he should tell you of course the music he's heard his favorite DJ's play have shaped his sound.

ummm...When you claim "club music" producers make music only for big dj's and venues you're most likely the one to have his head up his ass.

Club Music is the topic moron, since were talking about influential DJ's. Were not talking about ambient album music that you finger your asshole to.

You know how frustrating it is to have a discussion with someone who continuously changes the subject of discussion when they're in a hole? I'm sure you do.

Really I dont think you have an idea how hard producer's work to wrestle their way onto a Sasha or Digweed tracklist. Many producers cater their music to their style of the moment.

Like pretty much every producer that aims to have their tracks played by Digweed or Sasha, some dont fit the bill because S&D go outside of their standard sound and throw in some diverse tracks. But once S&D establish a sound they are playing for a time period, for however long that sound lasts, many producers take note and mold their sound to fit it. Where do you think movements in sound are born and sustained?

Producers who make music made to tear up the clubs, cater their music around the sound that their choice DJ's are playing. And S&D are two DJ's a lot of producers aim their tracks for.

And 3 pages later, we still, have yet, to see one producer listed who "caters their tracks to Sasha & Digweed"

WHO? TELL ME FOR THE LOVE OF JESUS!

Welcome to our elitist hater clique. You are #387

I just don't get how someone can argue something for what... 6 / 7 pages and present ZERO evidence or support for their claims.

Posted by bas on May-23-2008 18:34:

That's kind of his "thing". I think he just likes to practice typing, I believe he's up to 70 something wpm by now
