How is that the same?

And honestly, I've been watching TV all day and didn't see any footage/mention of the medal until the 6pm news.

The 1500m swim was intense, #5 lane (CAD) had it but blew it.

Posted by I_Am_Vince on Aug-17-2008 15:58:

Canada is at 7 medals now and 15th overall in rankings (We 're aiming for top 16).

Posted by nadezhda on Aug-17-2008 16:16:

i have pretty much become obsessed with watching men's swimming. i just can't look away. damn.

i was also thinking last night how it hurt just thinking about swimming laps for 15 min. i could maybe get across that pool once.

I'm in North Carolina this week, and American olympics reporting that actually makes me miss Canadian programming.

I'm in love with these olympics...

Posted by magikb on Aug-18-2008 04:12:

Since I haven't really been following the Olympics at all, my only story comes from Pepi's Pizza drunk on Friday night.

There was a Serbian dude in there going on and on about their swimmer Milorad Cavic and how it was total BS that Phelps beat him. He was saying that there was no way and just continuing on for the 20 min I was there waiting for a sub. It was actually quite funny and his friend who was with him seemed rather embarrassed, but I just continue to egg him on to keep myself amused while I waited.

I hear apparently it was a close call on that medal though. I could see why he would be a little upset, lol.

lol it was really close. But the guy glided towards the finish line while Phelps took one last stroke.

Well we just won a Silver in Women's Trampoline!

Karen Cockburn just won another trampoline medal! It was close, she was winning up until the last competitor, who was obviously Chinese , but still ended up with a Silver!

Edit: We're guaranteed another medal in Equestrian - Team Show Jumping!!

It's time for the Jump off... lol

Posted by exstasie on Aug-18-2008 14:19:

ah well...we got Silver in the Horse Jumping...

Still though, not to bad...its our first medal in team horse jumping in 40 years...

So we got 9 medals now...now bad considering about 72 hours ago we had 0.

We are not in sole place in 15th and are only 3 medals away from tying our 2004 medal count! Not bad at all considering how bad we were during our first week..

There has been some surprises so far.....I would say 3 medals have been somewhat surprising (1500m freestyle, Horse Jumping, and the silver in wrestling). The rest of the medals were ones that we were expected to medal in.

Our track athletes have been less then impressive so far...but we never have been overly strong in track.

I think we can expect at least two more medals in the rowing/kayaking, one in men's triathalon and one in diving.

+1!

We got one chick in the Hurdles final, but it isn't likely that she will medal in that one.

But hopefully we can at least get 2-3 more in the rowing/kayaking with the help of van Koeverden and things can be looking good for Despatie to get another medal for us in the Men's Diving, and of course Whitfield there's always Whitfield to help us out for another hopefully!

But who knows.. There could be one or two more suprised that could be coming around and overall is looking to be a decent olymipcs for us...

Posted by I_Am_Vince on Aug-18-2008 15:53:

So what ever happened to all the hype around Alexander Despatie winning a medal?

And did Perdita Felicien race?

Despatie is diving tomorrow, and hopefully will win a medal in the 3M Spring Board.
He came in 5th in the Men's Synchronized Diving...

And Perdita isn't racing in this Olympics. I think she has some injury, but Priscilla Lopes-Schliep qualified for the 100M Women's Hurdles Finals...

We couldn't have asked for a better equestrian team, Ian and Eric are flawless in their abilities, and Jill is such an excellent veteran. All of them have well seasoned horses who were ready for this.

Too bad for Jill's rail down, we still ended up with silver! Great Jump off to watch!

Equestrian events should not be in the olympics.

Unless they gave medals to the horses.

When is Lawn Bowling going to become an Olympic sport?

Well they are already treated better than the atheletes, so I'm not concerned.

Other people who do not deserve medals: rowing coxman. They sit and chant. They could easily be replaced by a boom box and allow them to save 100+ pounds.
