Had a fun day! Well done to Jimbo too on first festival gig - and a great set!!!

you can't call best set of the day after only seeing 1/4 of them! :P Mind you I am sure Jimmys set would've been the best had I seen it!

26 blowouts, you've outdone yourself Melbourne!

Posted by Dj_Es-Dva on Apr-11-2009 11:31:

lol too many nipples. I think ID&T really put Future to shame at being able to be shittier in every way Location was just not necessary, the transport there and their shuttle was crapola.

Anthony Pappa was pretty sweet though, was happy to hear Call of the Wild and Sean Tyas played Lift like I wanted

i found nothing wrong with the venue tbh
love how everyone sooks it's out in the sticks, never heard about ppl complaining about going to kryal or earthcore.

Posted by Dj_Es-Dva on Apr-11-2009 12:20:

That's quite different though., Those venues are special and need the room atmosphere etc, Calder was just wtf all the way. I'd heard they used it as no other venue had the room? Seemed like they would have fit in the bowl fine lol.

what are you talking about? when i got to watergardens there were heaps of coaches waiting, i got on one, it left and i arrived at the venue. same as getting home, i walked to the bus area, got on the bus, arrived back at watergardens and got the train again. it's not that difficult.

Posted by Dj_Es-Dva on Apr-11-2009 12:56:

I meant having to pay 6 bucks both ways and waiting 20 minutes the first time for the bus. The way back we caught a cab as it was cheaper and quicker though

the shuttle tickets were donations to the good friday appeal. don't you care about the children??? YOU MONSTER!!

i didn't have to wait either way, although i did get there very early and left around 9:45 pm

Posted by Dj_Es-Dva on Apr-11-2009 13:21:

I didn't see that donating mentioned anywhere haha. Both times I saw there were several buses but just so empty.

On the news apparently the police came and shut the event down? Anyone know what time? Pretty funny considering the nearest hospital isnt near.

Edit: So apparently it didn't get shut, failt news as always.

i just realised looking in another thread on itm that i didn't hear 'full tiltin' once throughout the whole day! win!

Awesome.

Can't remember too many details but:

Sied van Riel - awesome.

Marco V - awesome

BT - better than I was expecting, really really good. Excellent fun. Was hoping it would be a bit more 'innovative', more live effects/remixing etc, maybe some live keyboarding or something, but it was still good.

Sander van Doorn - Really good without being amazing, not the best i've seen him.

Richard Durand - Lasted 25 minutes, quite boring to be honest. Very disappointing and I won't be going out of my way to see him again.

Mark Sherry - Much much much better than Durand, glad I made the swap, really good. I had actually completely forgotten he was playing until someone pointed it out.

Agnelli & Nelson - good, but not fantastic. Was expecting more, some awesome stuff towards the end but the set as a whole wasn't anything to rave about.

John Askew - I really like Askew, everyone knows this. I've been fidning it really hard to describe my feelings about his set. It was good, but having said that it was a little bit like me in the sack, hard and fast too early and ran out of ideas after a couple of minutes. Doesn't mean it wasn't good, really enjoyed it and he was playing some awesome tunage. It just didn't seem to go anywhere. I enjoyed it, and it was exactly the hardness I like, but I just feel it could easily have been 10% better.

Aly & Fila - really good. Better than I was expecting actually, I was planning on geoing to see Judge jules but was convinced to stay for A&F, glad I did.

Tydi - Best i've seen him, played a couple of interesting tracks for a change. However it was still a standard by the numbers trance set, nothing which makes him distinctive from any toher Armin wannabe dj. Really not seeing anything to even come close to justifying the hype around him. The fire on top of the stage was more interesting than his set.

Pretty great event all-round, really only Durand was the only one I was let down by.
Really looking forward to next year.

I also liked the venue, no dust is always a big positive in my books, plenty of space to move around is also a bonus. Sure beats the bowl.

And to top it off I got upgraded at my hotel to a suite (double bonus considering I had a free room to begin with)

oh and bolier completely demolished. one of my favourite producers going around lately. he played a bit more uplifting than i would have liked: would have liked more of his stuff from last year and the year before like CRAZY PEOPLE GODDAMIT, but he knew what he was doin, and there was enough epic dutch tech trance to make me happy

great points ben, bits i saved are bits i agree with
didn't even bother with durand: he plays the same set every time, Sherry smashed it! played harder than i thought he would and yay, verily, it was good!

i think the problem with A&N was sound. sound in that tent (for his set at least) was FUCKING HORRIBLE!! i could barely hear anything clearly! everything was too quiet, and really bass-heavy and muddy!

really good point about no dust as well, made it so much better. i don't have hayfever, or asthma, but the dust really fucks me over anyway at the bowl etc..
i found the shuttle bus & train to be far better than i expected as well, altho i arrived and left around the same time as philbz, dunno how it would've been at different times.
there were heaps of cops that came of the train i caught, really aggressive bastards looking to beat down on munted n00bs...
too little too late if you ask me, but hey, that's what they do best..

now you mention it, too fucking right!!
so good having contemporary djs who don't have to play the over-played bullshit for once ey

it is true
best except for paul webster

and about the last point... *Cough* looks at Jed *cough*

thought the day was okay without being outstanding.

best sets for me were sander and sherry.

judge jules' first set was decent. points for playing brainbug - nightmare. what i saw of his second set was terrible.

couldn't stand the sound in the tent for a+n which was disappointing because i was looking forward to him. had to leave after 5 mins.

marco v was pretty good. much better than sensation. felix - dont you want me owned.

breakfast was pretty good too, of the little bits that i caught.

a&f were about 200x better than i was expecting and I actually didnt mind their set.'

everyone else i saw was average to mediocre

venue was pretty good but i think i'm done with festivals unless it is surrounded by trees and dirt. way too many tossers.
