While I don't question that there are a few worthwhile DJ's out there who can do wonders on the tables, djing on the whole has become a joke. I wont fork over anymore money to see some a-hole do the same old beat-matching which anyone can do.
Of course now "Djs" don't even beatmatch...they have a laptop and just drag, drop and paste one song after the other on say Ableton. Oh they'll say these sorts of programs allow them to be "creative" and remix on the fly, but its a crock of shit. If you listen to the mix and then each of the tracks individually there's hardly any change. The Dj might add a sweep or whoosh here and there for dramatic effect, but that's it.
When I go to the live show I want to see the person actually PERFORM instead of clicking away on some damn computer screen.

This guy's a twat.

At least Deadmau5 didn't thank "GOD" on the CDs thanks to list.

Can you sue Joel Zimmerman ?

Can you sue Joel Zimmerman for misrepresentation?

Even if that wasn't tiesto, I think I'll pretend it was.

The funniest part for me is how someone who doesn't care what we think was in this thread posting within 24 hours of the creation of that thread. Glad to see he isn't too busy to check TA every day to see if someone is talking about him

Oh come on, it's clear he thanked us in his liner notes because he just doesn't care about TA at all.

Posted by Lascodi on Oct-19-2008 22:26:

He's so right...screw the majority of Dj's, they may be good customers but theyre soul is not right...they are taking too much credit for nothing. If you can't make at least 1/3rd of the music on your own, either because you don't understand music nor lacks the technicalities, you're just another fungus playing what you think people like to hear, taking most of the credit for another mans hard late-night work, when you in reality just scratched your ass and smelled it.

The I-can-act-like-I-tweak-some-buttons-attitude is amazingly dull and transparent...and most of the crowd are brainwashed enough to think, oh he's so talented, how does he do that!

btw.where did it say he hated ALL dj's...just to get the right context for your thread title.

I just said this cuz to oppose the majority is what I like the best

Posted by itsamemario on Oct-19-2008 22:47:

He said he hated dj's. Since he didn't specify any DJ in particular, it is obvious that he is talking about all dj's, as a collectice.

It's like if I said "People from Porsgrunn are fucking inbred losers". I am of course talking about every person living in Porsgrunn, since the I am not specifying the subject to anything smaller than the whole town of Porsgrunns inhabitants.

Just replace "people from porsgrunn" with DJ's, and "fucking inbred losers" with fucking cvnts, and you have what fukmau5 said.

Posted by Lascodi on Oct-19-2008 22:50:

I'm not from Porsgrunn...thankfully I just work and study there...

So you say people from porsgrunn are inbred loosers, and you mean every fucking single one them bastards living in Porsgrunn? I don't think so...You mean the majority of them...in every society and community there is exceptions. That is and should always be a finger-rule.

But whatever, Dj's in the context he is logically interpreting it, is the loosers which don't understand music and plays the top 100 on beatport and knows how to change tracks...that's how I see it.

Mastering your music to sound great on a quality system is only part of the equation. I don't care how crisp or clear a song sounds; if it lacks creativity/originality, has a terrible melody or poor phrasing, etc., then it's still a bad tune. He could have the best-mastered, best-sounding tunes in the world on a big system but they can still be utter shit.

Aside from personal opinions about the quality of a tune, variety in produced tracks is vital to the survival of any artist. Something he doesn't have. All his tracks sound the same.

Posted by WhooCares on Oct-20-2008 02:49:

"all his tracks sound the same"
"he has no creativity"
"i have better 1337 skills in producing.."
blah blah blah..u bunch sound like a broken record

Deadmau5 - hi Friend

Deadmau5 - Jaded

Deadmau5 - By Friend

Deadmau5 - Slip

Welcome to 2004.

Posted by mezzir on Oct-20-2008 03:33:

after seeing a video of his setup at home, where the hell did he get the money for all that shit?
assuming he hasn't bought all that in the last year
fuck man, that dude's got gratuitous amounts of equipment

Posted by blacknoizybox on Oct-20-2008 04:27:

so i've seen the videos. he calls that music? maybe in Iran...

Posted by Lira on Oct-20-2008 05:21:

All right, this is becoming irrelevant. And this is not the funny kind of irrelevance.

Unless we talk about the cunthood of dj's, and whether Joel is right, there's no discussion. While some of you criticise his music, claiming it's not even music, he's enjoying a reasonable amount of success in his field and he's on tour thanks to that. What's the point?

In the end, if you want to criticise him, produce some awesome music. It's a win-win situation
