yes you can. this thread is an excellent starting point. listen to mixes, find out what you like. if there's a tracklist of a particular ste you like, look for the tunes that are played, and from which labels theyre from. then you know some decent labels and producers for starters. remixes might give you some good indication too.

i have the same problem, or 'have had' the same problem. this thread offers a good insight in whats 'good'. you really have to find out yourself, cuz taste is personal (luckily). there just isnt a pool of good tunes, dj's, producers and labels waiting for you to find it. you have to make your own pool .

once you've created your 'pool', its just a matter of finding the spots where you can buy/download all the stuff you like. and thats another topic

Before asking who's bringing it, one must first ask what is "funk"?

true. but funkieness for me might be differ from your definition.

by the way, does anyone thinks the releases from Klik Records might fall under this thread? just got a bunch of releases from this label, and like to know if theyre anywhere near the sound which is proposed in this thread ....

Re: who's bringin' the funk? or am i just living in the past?

in terms of what i was looking for when i originally started this thread, i'd say funk is...
quote:
epic piano lines, uplifting strings, chunky basslines, diva vocals, and funky feel-good melodies

but it doesn't have to include all of those things. it doesn't have to be any specific genre. what i'm looking for and what i consider to be "funk" is more a general vibe than anything. it's uplifting, harmonious, soulful, emotional, organic, and warm.

honestly, listen to any Luke Fair or Desyn Masiello set from 2006. that's what i want. i can sit here and try to explain to you guys the sound i'm looking for, but that's it. nail on the head.

i'm also not looking for tracks (although i don't mind if you guys continue to post them, there's been tons of great stuff in this thread). my goal was to find DJs who still play this kind of music.

i hope my suggestions/links so far helped you a bit, allthough i have to say im quite sure some might be offkey (Fumi is not very close to Desyn's =< 2006 ish stuff)

i haven't heard a proper live set from Luke in ages, and honestly the last thing i liked from him was his March promo from last year.

don't get me wrong... i still love Luke and would have a hundred of his babies, i just think he's playing a lot of stuff these days that i find kind of sterile and emotionless.

honestly the drabble that's floating around on the internets is what's causing this loss of wetness and dialation for you. the best way to experience luke is to see him live - chances of which don't come around as often as you'd like i suppose.

totally agree. it's been over a year and a half since i've seen him and he hasn't been touring much lately.
