Posted by Zjokke1977 on May-24-2009 11:13:

It seems that energy 92.7 was broadcasting.

Chris Lakeeeeeeeee!

Posted by Andrieux on May-24-2009 20:20:

Funniest thing I saw was these guys wearing t-shirts with big block letters that said "LORDS OF LIGHT" and were giving everyone light shows accompanied by their white gloves with different color lights on each finger tip

was zzzzzZ ugh the whole night musically was meh from what i caught esp when you compare it to the night before at the com# with clint stewart, lee foss and jamie jones! alex metric was one of the 2 i liked, started off well but ended really bad jarrell was the other. main stage setup was nice but a bit annoying if you wanted to see the dj, need to remove the speakers from the middle.

The stage spun around.

Posted by JohnnyMonsoon on May-24-2009 22:46:

absolutely epic! Thats the closest thing to Sensation White that i've seen. If you saw me on the stage, i was the guy with the "FUCK THE VIP" tshirt on lol

just a few pics that i took: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?a...03&l=7f46201d57

Sander Van Doorn killin it on the main stage

Green room antics with Sander and friends. I am on the far left

yes so you didnt see the dj at all times. sometimes seeing the dj interact with the crowd adds to the experience. there were a couple of build ups where i wanted to see the dj interact the crowd but the stage was rotated to where i couldnt see the dj/producer. if the speakers from the middle were removed or elevated above the booth it would of been nice, like Sensation:

Heard SvD made the place go UNTZ UNTZ UTNZ

Heard PvD was terrible. He just needs to stop being booked out here for a long time...I haven't heard anyone like any of his sets in a few years now.

And Gilbert, it's a start for this DJ setup. Next time they do an event there, I am sure they will use the same setup (since everyone seems to have loved it) and try to improve upon it.

I have tons of videos to upload but i'm almost done with one that will give you an idea of how crazy the crowd went during his set. My god he absolutely killed it bigtime!

I expected nothing less from him.

Really wish I cuold see him. It's been so long and he's my co-favorite DJ. Hope I get to check him out at EDC. Depends on the set times (cause I won't be there all night I don't think)

Posted by Trancelover24 on May-24-2009 23:15:

I am finally up and recovering from my alcohol enduced comma heheheh j/k!

Well guys etd.POP is now down on the books and all that I have to say is that it was an awesome party! Good vibes and great people all around me, well except for the idiot splaying water. What made it funny is that when I pushed him and asked him to stop all his "crew" was ready to fight, hahah, the idiots are getting everyone wet, yet must fight to protect their right to get people wet? Hahah

Anyway HUGE Props go to Mirinda, Tim, Jason and all of the Skills crew for keeping these events going strong!

Sander van Doorn played great tracks but I was expecting more, still great but expecting more... I have recreated a tracklist of the tracks that I remember from his set...

The Killers - Spaceman (Sander Van Doorn mix - part 2)
Sia - The Girl You Lost To Cocaine (Sander Van Doorn Remix)
Audible - White Mouse (Original Mix)
Marco V - Unprepared
Sam Sharp - Roundabout (Sander Van Doorn Main Mix)
Art of Trance - Madagascar (Richard Durand Remix)
John O'Callaghan - Big Sky
Sander van Doorn vs. Robbie Williams - Close My Eyes (Club Mix)
Cosmic Gate - F.A.V (Original Mix)
Gareth Emery - Exposure

Now I am not a hater and I do appreciate the great productions put out by Joel the Deadmau5, however his set again lacked Energy (saw him at Ruby Skye last year), lacked Flow and it was just a big cluster fuck of boring tracks.. He completely brought down the energy to a whole new level, specially following Sander van Doorn, but most of the kids, love this guy for whatever reason. I must be getting old and this is what the "new" generation likes, but damn his mixing is just plain awful, the man can't read the flow of the night. This is just my opinion and ofcourse many of you will not agree with me, that is the beauty of the world we live in.

Now when Ferry came out the Energy of Everyone was insane, everyone was dancing and jumping and singing along to the tracks.. I don't recall any momment when this happened for the deadmau5, oh yeah It did when he put on his mouse head.. What the hell is our scene turning into, when the most enjoyment we can get from a DJ is when he puts on his mouse head? What hapened to the days of getting crowd reaction by dropping a huge anthem?? Oh these kids ..

Paul van Dyk did have a good set and closed the night just right. I am not sure where you getting your info Dave, but PvD has had great sets the lats two times, I seen him in the bay area (Richmond & last night).

Anyhow Good Stuff!! Thanks Skills!

svd had some sick tracks but set was ok. i didnt stay for all of pvd, just first 20 mins, but a friend was liking him and he doesnt even like pvd... and just as i was typing this reply a friend called me and said that pvd was really good as well. idk nor care though cause JJ the night before was the set of the weekend! As for the main stage, i hope so... and dont include me in that everyone loving it cause i didnt

Posted by JohnnyMonsoon on May-24-2009 23:26:

i took this video on stage when sander was playing that Kings of Leon remix

I'd say the crowd kinda dug it

Posted by DaveT on May-24-2009 23:35:

Trancelover, I have a cell phone littered with texts from during his set. And the one other review I read about him on a message board, "Paul Van Dyke is fucking terrible, stop booking him please. 4 times that I've caught parts of his set have been absolutely awful now." (that said, I am not gonna sit here and use that impression to say that's the general thing I am hearing...cause Id on't know who that person is). Then the last few times he played at Ten15 most people I know left having a lot of fun that night but weren't impressed with his set just by itself, whether they admitted that here on TA as a bunch of people are kiss asses on here lol. That being said, some of those nights were REAL FUN which can make up for a bland set...just because of the atmosphere. But I am purely talking about the music/programming/etc right now. Also, when he played at Monster Massive last year he got horrific reviews overal...hell, we left and just went outside to listen to Lawler....and had no desire going back inside.

I didn't really hear any impressions of him at the event at the Craneway Pavilion last year, so I can't say about that night.

PvD used to be one of my top 3 favorite DJs...and as I said, have had a TON of fun at some of his recent club events, but all of his sets, musically, have been lackluster the last few years, IMO. Maybe just because I used to constantly be blown away by him? Still, I usually take it easy on Djs who I have always loved, but he's become so much more of a miss than a hit. I'm sure he still has killer nights though!

This all said, I am just relaying the general impressions I got last night. Not a review from myself at all. Of course there's going to be a group who will be pleased -- more power to them. That's awesome. Then there's always those people who are so hopped up on chems, it's easy to please them, hehe. If they were, then their opinions need not apply,. In the end, we all have different tastes. I am just saying... the general review of PvD I got overall from people I know who went and can be somewhat confident aren't totally f'd up on stuff is relatively negative. And if they were on chems and still were sending negative feedback on his set, then just makes it worse! Basically he and Deadmau5 (though I got the impression from my peeps that he timeslot placement killed the flow of the night more than anything) seem to be getting bad-to-medicore reviews, with SvD and Ferry getting good reviews. Heard a lot of good things about Chris Lake too.

Posted by delusional on May-25-2009 01:16:

Eh, I was @ the palladium friday(deadmau5), woke up Saturday flew out to San Fran(impulse),be cause the homie and I were figuring out what to do that night. So I thought it was pretty chill but for some reason, I believe WMC(sets+sound) spoiled me this year. I didn't think ETD was AMAZING but it was good.

Is anyone else also use to just hearing funktions 1's ? lol

Posted by Rukes on May-25-2009 01:33:

Deadmau5 did have more than double the audience SvD did. I think all the non-trance people stuck to the side rooms and came over just for Deadmau5, then left when trance started again.

Posted by DaveT on May-25-2009 01:42:

So in other words, he should have played in a side room? Like at TAO on NYE? (ok ok, just trying to give ya a hard time, Drew :-p)

BUUUUUUUUT... # of people in a room has zero to do with the quality of a set or the progression of music throughout the night or even the vibe in a lot of ways. Most of the people who saw him at etd.POP have prob never seen him before and had no clue how good he is live. Hell, I would have been sure to be in there myself if I hadn't seen him before...just to see what he's about.

Nonetheless, it was a massive and anyone who would be expecting full proper progression were prob expecting too much. But when the timeslots are generally real good except for one artist, that artist is gonna stick out like a sore thumb. But it's not like this was the first nor will it be the last event to have the timeslots setup where there's an artist stuck in there like that. It's just a part of the game and something people should expect to see. And you can't necessarily always blame the DJ/artist There are so many things that determine an artist's timeslot...from the promoter deciding, to the agency, to the managers, to you name it and it can be a part of the reason why.

Posted by drEamer on May-25-2009 01:50:

SVD did spin earlier as well, and there was still a line out the door....the the crowd means nothing.....its the energy

Posted by Rukes on May-25-2009 04:44:

I was just pointing out that deadmau5 was a house dj in a sea of trance since there was only one main room.

Posted by rizo on May-25-2009 04:56:

ugh, i forgot who played animal collective's my girls... was overwhelmed with joy when it came in but turned out it was a horrible electro remix/mashup of it, way to ruin a great track!

edit: think it was Flosstradamus
