His radio set at the Raleigh Hotel WMC weekend was worse imo but I see where you're coming from.....
I'll give you guys my honest opinion on all of this. As a recent West Coast (Los Angeles) transplant, I can tell you that he NEVER plays like this in LA/SF, where I haven't missed any of his shows in the last 3 years. When he plays at 1015 is SF he ALWAYS plays HARD, ALWAYS. As far as SoCal/Norcal raves and festivals, the same applies, although he plays a little more fluff, but still bangs out good sets. LA clubs, well, he hasn't played in a "club" in LA for almost a year and a half now but the last few times he did he played very trancey and hard sets. The first time I heard him play a housey set was WMC 08, which I actually liked a lot. I don't mind his "hybrid sets" if they're done well (think Trance Energy 09 style, his Mayday sets, etc).
His DC set was pretty bad, but I also think it partly has to do with the crowd and venue. Actually, it probably has a lot to do with those 2 factors. Think about who goes to those these clubs and ask yourself if they want to hear a 144bpm Mekk track? It's to hardcore for certain crowds and venues. Think about who goes to those clubs? Douchebags who don't even know the difference between different edm styles and artists...... People who go just because they hear a familiar name. And that's the reason why you have these weird sets in certain cities....... It's him calibrating to the crowd (although he does it badly sometimes). Go see him at a rave or in a place where a larger percentage of the crowd is there for the music (like SF) or rolling balls and you will get your typical "PVD" set that I'm so used to hearing. I'll take your guys' word for it and expect him to play a house set on Saturday, I just hope he plays a little harder than the DC set.
In the end PVD is still my favorite. I even prefer his house sets over other trance dj's and their boring, predictable cdj sets, which I'm completely over btw..... It just sucks that he completely fucks up at some venues and then blows the doors off of other ones. I'm gonna see him for NYE this year @ Roseland Ballroom, I'm sure he won't dissappoint there. Catch him at the "appropriate venue" and he will bang it out accordingly. All hope is not lost. You guys just happen to be in one of those cities/venues that are "fucked." Anyways, I'm looking forward to Saturday. Keeping my finger crossed for a good set!

I have not and will not be listening to his DC set, but find it funny how people pre-judge his Space set b4 it even happens. Everyone should know by now that PVD has been hit-or-miss for quite some time. He could suck on wednesday and be great on Saturday. So lets judge his set @ Space by how he plays @ Space this Saturday, not by how he played @ DC.

One of his favorite places to spin is "Club Space" here in Miami. So I am hoping for a set to blow my socks off. I will get back to you and let you know how he does! |
i doubt he'll play house. this is terrace night, not morning
If we are lucky he'll stick to trance and tech-trance. Miami has waaaay too much house already
i be there!

ok, i just booked my flights (on thanksgiving travel weekend like an idiot).
See you there
Whats the cheapest way to get from the airport to space. Every time I take a taxi it runs me just short of $30, after what I just spent on flights I would prefer to save money.
