not quite, you can still sell your Fruity track, they'll probably just ask you for the stems or project and THEN go to someone having a big rig studio. Otherwise no deal. lol

when did i ever say i was talking about the music itself ? lol

i was speaking in terms of just purely being a audio engineer or a mastering engineer.

which does fall under the umbrella of being a present day dance music/dj producer/whatever

damn so much fighting going around...

You think that's what they did with Garrix?

I don't know what they did with Garrix, I know he endorses FLStudio
And he probably has a whole production team behind him and a non disclosure agreement and a precooked marketing story.

No evidence ofcourse but that's how these things seem to go nowadays.

Nah, I see people in my surroundings do serious producing/mastering/post-production on fairly modest setups. Ranging from producing and ghostproducing for well known acts to delivering part of the soundtracks for actual Hollywood movies with a budget of 60 million dollar.

If what you (not sure if you're partually serious on the remark despite the smiley or lol) or Lovehate were saying was the full truth these people wouldn't make a living from music. Good thing is they're not even exceptions to the rule. They might do bigger things than the majority their setup might be closer to that of a hobby gotten out of hand.

Posted by Raphie on Oct-31-2014 21:32:

True, but there is a difference between creating and engineering.
There is very serious content created on modest systems indeed
But that's only 1 part of the process.
And for sure analog is not critical at any stage, people just have a preference to work a certain way or being after a certain sound.

Bros, I'm going true analog with my next synth:

Posted by Storyteller on Nov-06-2014 08:25:

Saw it come by earlier on Facebook. Fucking incredible piece. I love how it can also be used musically because of the strings.

Though that digital cold sound has its place. In a cluttered uplifting track it doesn't really matter. Actually, that digital cold sounds enabled uplifting to grow from 2003 onwards.

In a minimalistic mix analog still overshadows digital.

Posted by AlphaStarred on Oct-28-2015 03:34:

Digital can be great for stuff like trance/psy-trance, but in most other genres I don't think it can hold up to analog.

Posted by TranceElevation on Oct-28-2015 04:27:

Strongly disagree. It's just the opposite specifically for psy/goa.
Early Astral Projection is unbeatable.

ITT: analog elitist douchebags thinking they can actually hear a difference.

Early AP and psy/goa very often used digital synths with probably analog drum machines.

Have you ever used analog? Once you do for a certain amount of time, you can often hear a difference. You won't find a digital clone that sounds like a 303 or a 606.

In some track may be. But I can tell you the bassline in "Kabalah" is definitely analog. In general their 90's prodcution are mainly analog.

Psy/goa sounds much more exciting to me when analog is employed.
That's not the case with uplifting where I prefer the colder digital sound.

if your computer can represent it in 1s and 0s, then digital can do it. The rest is how easy or hard.

Posted by Raphie on Oct-30-2015 11:27:

Not quite, a computer can perfectly capture/sample and replay your voice, piano, guitar etc
But it can not yet generate these in a 100% convincing way itself.

"how easy or hard"

Yeah this is technically correct, like the worst kind of correct
Yeah it comes down to how hard and at the moment it's extremely hard. Program things for years and then max out a 16 core (or Cray) with an emulation that's realistic.

And control surface issue is another can of worms.
There's a suspension of disbelief thing, like when you play a real Moog it feels like an instrument, and Monark much less so, more like a sound generating spreadsheet. Even if they did sound absolutely identical the feels in the players mind would be different. And the feels are damn important when creating music.

Posted by DjStephenWiley on Oct-31-2015 03:10:

Have owned and sold off many analog instruments myself.

I understand the craze to some extent, and personally believe it really all comes down to work flow. Sonically, not all analogs are created equally. What I mean by that is, it's pretty easy to find very accurate emulations of Moog and Oberheim type sounds (Monark, Diva), but you'd be hard pressed to find any software that can sound like an original microwave 1 (admittedly uses digital osc's, but EVERYTHING else is analog beyond that)

This is why I personally own a microwave 1 and will likely never sell it. There's no software out there (yet) that provides anything close to the tone it can deliver. I do think it's silly though to see people selling (and paying) 10k for a JP-8 that has been remarkably emulated by Roland's new ACB technology, or something like a Matrix 12 that fetches 4 or 5 grand yet has been faithfully emulated via Diva.

Are you honestly saying that you think the JP-08 sounds like a Jupiter 8?

Sheesh.

Dont take my word for it. Listen for yourself.
