Not too bad to be honest. No worse than mine for sure. As said, it's not strictly 2 step but you've had a go and that's more important than those who've got a genre and had no intention to do it, so well done for trying, but you know it's not a patch on your epic goa mixes

MrGame+Watch - It's not a bad mix but it doesn't have a flow that I can believe in. Again being a novice in the genre, you've come across issues that I & Others will have done over the years, it's an awkward sound to get right.

Posted by RebeL9 on Feb-26-2011 22:03:

This was more difficult than I thought. Had a really stressful month at job. But I really wanted to finnish my mix. I'm no expert on hard trance so I hope this goes out well to whoever suggested it. I first planned to put out a classic hardtrance mix (Harthouse records/Nostrum/Drax etc) but that stuff can be a bitch to mix and find.
So I took a more "modern hardtrance" approach. Play at loud volume! Enjoy!

Tracklist:

01. Return Of The Native - Persuasion
02. Alexander Gustoff - Technetic
03. Mark Norman - Intimate Gesture
04. Kay D Smith - Person Called
05. John The Baptist - Verse 1 (Louk Exorcist Remix)
06. Rocket Base - In My House
07. The Freak - Addictive (Hard mix)
08. Zicky - She Wanna (Guillare remix)
09. DJ Wag - 2nd Step
10. Yakooza - Cocaine
11. Hennes & Cold - The Second Trip (DJ Scot Project remix)

Nicely done, Hamid. It fits the 'hard trance' bill well and goes in a way that I may not have done myself, which is the sort of fruits that make this thing worthwhile.

Posted by Meat187 on Feb-27-2011 20:52:

OK folks, time's up!
Thanks everybody for participating. I'm still a bit disappointed to see 3 mixes not getting made but overall I think it was a rather successful round.

Posted by Ian on Feb-27-2011 21:36:

12/15 isn't a bad effort imo. PM Me when the next one is open cos I have a good suggestion and don't wanna miss out

Posted by netroM on Feb-28-2011 00:10:

Well done to all participants, IMO.

Very much looking forward to another round

Nice one guys, 12 out of 15 definitely isn't bad. Some great mixes to come out of this too, even though I still have some that I need to listen to.

Good job!

Posted by Zyklon_Jay on Feb-28-2011 10:08:

guys if you keep saying 12/15 igk will rape you.

Posted by Magadansky on Feb-28-2011 12:57:

Thanks Ian for listening.

I also listened to your set and it was pleasant although quite short. Interesting music which I am not too familiar with (and so are you as you said earlier) but you chose excellent tracks for the set.

Rebel9, your set is quite stomping and enjoyable. I followed your advice and turned up the volume - it was worth it.

Count me in for the next challenge.

Posted by montana on Feb-28-2011 16:16:

djdk, that was nice, mixing was good, tunes was excellent, liked that you dipped into electro and acid. proper but per usual from your direction.

magadansky, yeah, well, you said that the mixing was sloppy but it only really happened when you were playing stuff from the artful dodger album innit? and i know the versions on the album are short and radio edit like but you could have worked that better to be honest. but tunes was nice, but ye flow was patchy at best. every crossfade into a new artful dodger tune broke momentum.

hamid, good stuff,

Posted by RebeL9 on Feb-28-2011 18:20:

Glad you liked it
Now i'm going to listen through the mixes. Beginning with the psytrance and tech trance mix.

Thanks for listening, I know I could've made it better and probably if I ever make a new garage mix it shall be. It is true that the Artful Dodger stuff were the hardest to mix but also, the tracks were quite good so I wanted them inside. Cheers

Ok here's a few more thoughts on some of the other mixes I've listened to since my last post here.

@Rodri - I actually quite enjoyed your mix, flowed rather well although like has been said some of these tracks weren't really proper dubstep imo, especially Infected Mushroom at the end. Was a real moment for me.

@Rebel9 - Pretty good job on this one man, I was really impressed with the 1st half, didn't know any of these great tunes in this part, solid mixing and flow so far. The mix into Addictive was phrased badly but being in key didn't interrupt the flow too much, but I fucking love that track so props for dropping it. The classics you dropped after that although good tracks I'm a bit over them as I used to play them quite a bit back in the day. Enjoyable set overall though.

@Floyd - Honestly wasn't convinced at all by this little mix, way too short and frankly most of it just seemed to be house music of sorts imo, then again I know jack shit about uk funky and think it probably would have been one of the tougher genres to be assigned here.

Still have Magadansky and djdk's mixes to go through, tracklists look good. Anyway good effort from nearly all involved this time.

liked your dubstep mix Rodri Santos. havent had time to listen to anything else here yet but will. these comps are great for discovery of new and other types of music.

Hamid, nice mix, exactly what I expected from you. You delivered some immense tunes, and your mixing and flow were on point. You're a very consistent DJ, it's rare that you put out something disappointing. Really cool set, I'll probably be listening again

Magadansky, I listened to your set, and I enjoyed the tunes. However, the mixing was kinda , but I assume that shit was practically impossible to mix considering the time signature. It was funky as hell, soulful and groovy, so it was win. Nice job.

djdk, interesting mix. I wasn't expecting it to be as fast as it was, if I hadn't listened I would have thought it would be slower. It was quite varied as well, some industrial parts, some groovy/soul parts, and some acid parts! No real comments on the mixing, it seemed just fine to me. Good work, you seemed to embrace this challenge quite well.

Great job, everybody, you all did amazing in this challenge. I look forward to the next round (hopefully it's not for a while though )
