The only reason Mark Anthony still plays at the Black & Blue is that he's good friends with the core group that formed the BBCM and that he was at the original one. They kept the trend going by inviting him every year and he was always the closer. He must have gotten tired of playing to an half empty room so I could bet that the year or 2 that he didn't play was due to him putting his foot down and wanting to be in a more peak hour slot. Because when he did return he was on earlier time slots. Therefore, when someone stated that the order was based on politics, they probably meant this in an ambiguous sort of way
You can expect M.A.'s set being comprised of a miss-mash of Beatport's top ten (from October) in different categories therefore appealing to everyone. Don't get me wrong he has been around for a long time and has good technique (I think someone in this thread even referred to him as Montreal's D.T.) however I find his sets lack creativity or originality... again my own personal opinion.

So who would you choose as the one local to include on this bill?

I assume it would be someone who is recognizable throughout all parts of Montreal, appeals to both veterans and new folks at B&B, fits the current lineup, has a proven track record working seamlessly with headliners over the years, etc, and has enough in his repretoire to play circuit house, prog, tech house, etc. I like this choice for all the above.

He has his own night at Stereo, a residency at Red Lite and has been a contributor to the music for over 20 years now. ANd in terms of track selection, this is a massive we're talking about not a dozen edm nerds on ta

I expect nothing but good things and extra motivation from Mark Anthony after his split with Jennifer Lopez

@ Spin: If you read between the lines, I don't disagree with this choice, I just disagree with the spot he was given. He's going to totally break the flow that would have happened between D-Formation and DJ Vibe. D-Formation is going to have to build from scratch since their sounds are not similar rather than build on top of what Vibe would have done.

... and M.A. has a residency at Stereo ? Since when ?

FYI you can play at a massive without going top10 if you know your stuff ;-)

They could have given MA primetime and group the 3 headliners together:

Cube Guys (9-11)
Rosabel (11-1)
MA (1-3:30)
Vibe (3:30-6)
D-Formation (6-9)
Hernan (9-12)

Posted by Spin Laden on Sep-11-2011 01:52:

Anthony has transitioned into D-Formation before at Black and Blue so this is nothing new. And it was a decent set, no Beatport top 10 of that current month in there.. and the thing with Anthony is that he could play that Beatport top 10 and stlll make it sound fresh. He doesn't just play the tracks, he makes them his own with what he can do with them.

He did an extended set at Stereo just recently, had his own night there, no small feat.

I also like the fact they have him on around the end of the drinking and nightclub hours. You put the big headliners on early so ppl will flock there earlier, then Anthony comes on when it's around last call and sets up the dirty hours with D Formation later on. You put the local in early (as BeB normally does) then ppl will show later.

You really think Mark Anthony has that much pull to put Hernan into that closing slot without Hernan having any say?

AMAZING Im going in @ 6 am and it should be mass fun

it's not official time slot, deadmau5 is closing

Posted by Spin Laden on Sep-11-2011 02:07:

I would like to see Vibe later on too but Anthony will do well in that slot in any case. The thousands who will be there probably won't notice much of a difference, unlike last year when Paulette was on the bill.

The order you gave was pretty much what I had in mind, but I don't have final word on this

At least I was able to make it happen for The Cubes + Vibe + Dimas + Hernan

In my book, this is heaven for househeads of all kinds .... seriously

for srs, good job with the bookings. I don't listen to trance but that room seems impressive too, going to be a good party.

To jt889:

Leather and Military Ball are both at Club Soda (on St. Laurent) ... and yes, people definitely dress up for these ... especially the leather ball ... its a gay 25-40 yr old crowd mostly in leather gear (harnasses, chaps, etc) ...

And jock ball is at Sky this year, with Bugo and Jamal ...

And, DJ Vibe was soooooooo the icing on the cake for this years main event ... can't wait ...this party is gonna be really sick!!! ...

I don't doubt that for a minute - drugs, venue vibe, acoustics, etc can make a played out track jump out and sound fresh.

Fortunately, I've caught Anthony sober many times (I've said on here recently I'm very clear headed at events, the Amy references is just nonsense) and even a noob smoker like me can tell that Anthony doesn't just play his tracks. I can't say that for every dj I've heard, however.

Now watch him go drop a shit, redundant sounding set at B&B

Posted by Spin Laden on Sep-12-2011 21:58:

Anthony is getting far too much pr from me

reading the first post from Happydude, one can get the impression he shouldn't be on the bill at all, not that you just disagree with the order of djs. Again, I would love to see Vibe on later, if I had the preference too.

I doubt it, esp with three weeks to go. But he would certainly move a lot of tickets if booked.
