Knocked out the 5k in 32mins but i was running a medium pace since I was pretty tired from the night before...worked up a great sweat for the morning which I haven't done in a while. Anyways, softball tonight, then gym to hit up chest. Managed to work in some bar work outside of my apartment on a scaffolding before last nights run, i love having that bar out there but also HATE having the scaffolding blocking my balcony. RUN.NYC |

Unlimited eggs, full-fat cheese, burgers, bacon, fresh salads with olive oil & vinegar..fresh green veggies...almonds, macadamia nuts.. That's about it. I eat tons of fatty (and delicious) stuff, and as long as I don't go over 20 carbs in a day the weight keeps shedding. Pwnage. |

I like the parks more, it's nice run next to a group of girls adorned in lululemon or nike fit ;p| quote: |

Also, unused protein also stores as fat when it's not burned as energy. What the atkins is doing is making you burn protein as a source of energy versus the normal carbs. |

A better "dieting" plan is the Zone Diet. It incorporates the food groups and allows you to eat within those groups just by portion control. Also encourages you to eat upwards to 5-6 per day, just the discretion focuses on portion control. Size of your fist is a good measure for this. The parks here are paved roads, I don't like trail running as much for endurance purposes since I'm more prone to turning an ankle. I do trail run riverside park (hudson park) in manhattan but to focus on strength gains like sprints and uphill runs. I don't mind running city streets but if I were to navigate city streets it would be on my bike I like the parks more, it's nice run next to a group of girls adorned in lululemon or nike fit ;plol push? i was dying yesterday! this morning was a bit better, i did notice though after a 2 day break, the first day back is always ROUGH. Whatever the case is I still don't support the atkins diet at all. Maybe it's the side of me that requires balance (in all aspects of life and at any extremes) but to me, maintaining a high protein high fatty diet just doesn't do it for me. I enjoy my brown rice, my beans, my multigrain toast. I don't necessarily enjoy "fatty foods" all the time, it's not delicious to me if you eat it constantly. I just need that balance, sweet and sour, salty and bland, its all about balance man.
I think I've done sufficient reading, enough for me to know that I don't participate in said diet (even if I'm conceptually wrong about it) because of the balance requirement in my life. I just can't see myself living such a lifestyle according the atkins regiment.
It may work for some, maybe it's a short term thing, I really don't know. I just feel that in a lot of ways, it's unhealthy for you. It's like those people who skip meals because they are dieting and think that's the way to lose weight quickly.
Also another note from my experience and interaction with some ladies, those who I've witness to choose the no-eating dieting are often frail yet limber and those who follow the atkins (or similar) are a tad overweight and are looking to melt down the hips, arm fat, or simply lower their BMI. I've found the body type preference for me is athletic and tone, neither skinny and frail, nor extra padding, and those with the athletic tone have a healthy amount of fat on them and eat on a similar schedule as I do. A balance of all food groups. Again just my observation.
I agree, dieting is stupid and unhealthy. How fucking hard is it to just eat proper, well balanced meals? That's right: it isn't.

Okay, time for another 6 motha-fucking mile run tonight, I'm pumped as it's relatively dry ground, cool and spitting rain, perfect for outdoor running/training
I'm aiming for a steady 40 minutes if possible here.
last night was the first time i actually through i pulled my hamstring. it was pretty muggy out so i decided to get on the treadmill at the gym so i started running and i felt great, i was doing really well, i felt really good at about the 2.5m mark my left hamstring started to feel really light, almost as if i didn't feel it, then i felt kind of like a slipping feeling almost pre-crampish. I instantly stopped the treadmill . It sucked too cuz I was on pace to knocking out the 5k in under 29mins which would be great for me. I think I ended at a 21min 2.5m and had a glorious sweat going. also didn't help that i was running between two pretty cute girls owells.
lifted chest after my run and felt great...tonight it's bikram to sweat and stretch out, everything is sore...especially my upper back, neck, and legs. could use a good stretching session anyways!
It sounds like you stopped the treadmill at just the right time nyce. Any longer and you probably would have done more damage to that muscle. At 4000metres for 21 minutes, you were probably heading more towards a 27:30 - 28 minute 5k, which is a major improvement.
I'd normally recommend you give those legs a rest tonight if you felt something going last night, as there could be an underlying problem there just waiting to be aggravated, but I know I'm probably not gonna convince you otherwise
A good pre-stretch and a steady bike ride may do you good, just to loosen them up a little. If you feel a twinge though, I would give the leg a rest for another couple of days.
I managed a 6mile 40 minute steady paced jog last night, so it's now about consolidation for me and slowly building up the mileage.

Maybe I'll get some in on sunday and take today-saturday off. Before last night I ran Tuesday morning so I figured all day tuesday/wednes should have been enough rest, guess i can use a better recovery plan. I'm teetering on tonight as I'd like to get into bikram and sweat my ass off
wai - i think tonight's session is at 830 on 72nd street, i may be going with my neighbor but she's more of the advanced then me.
bikram's schedule - http://bikramyoganyc.com/schedule_uws.html
i might just find a nysc class, i thought you took classes there. i'll probably sit on the bike and watch so you thin you can dance

| Originally posted by chimera66 fresh fruit and veggies are expensive. personally, i spend a good chunk of money on food that's good for me. if you have a family and pretty low income it is more cost effective to buy ready made cheap stuff like mcdonalds meals. white bread which is crap for you costs less than whole grain wheat and fruit cocktail in a can costs less as well. meat isn't exactly cheap either, the lower the fat the more expensive it is and meat without hormones costs more too. iceberg lettuce verse argula /spring greens costs less and not as good for you. i can go on and on. to eat well costs money and if you are poor you don't have the money to put toward it. can you try to eat well, of course but realistically with a lower income it's more difficult to eat as well. |
agreed but if all you eat is carbs you probably aren't that healthy
