ok, prob a dumb question, but how important are slipmats? is it just a preference in how much slip one wants, or is there a certain criteria for them to be marked against? ive got cheap n nasty crappy ones and they seem fine, but i wonder if im missing out??

haha, yeah, its the slipmats that make me crap

Posted by jizza on Nov-01-2004 04:56:

slipmats don't really affect your djing overall although the quality of them can affect the feel, when you are cueing your record. nothing major though i would think.

yeah jiz, your exactly right
i got my technic quality mats with the tables so i didn't realise there would be quality variations. i assumed they were all made of the same material since they were all about the same price..

and yeah you are correct, it is exactly like the material used on top pool tables. my mistake, they just looked cool on the pic. oh well

and yeah slipmats dont really affect much besides letting the record glide when the plate is held,
main purpose for me is making my decks look pretty

ive tried both quality mats and the thinner mats (ones im complaining about) and it makes no difference what so ever. it just looks dodgy!

thickness bugs me. hard to grip the nipple effectively at times with a thick slipmat.

my mats are pretty thick and yet theres plenty of room

thick slipmat coupled with a thick piece of wax, and u'll have trouble manipulating the speed using the nipple without physical touching the record. i just prefer aplenty of finger space to give the nipple a good twist without wax interference

though i confess i havnt used the technics, i've used mooks slipmats. thick as fuck and utterly annoying.

Posted by rez on Nov-03-2004 04:46:

i think we all prefer plenty of nipple space

Funny this, because we get all our Technics slipmats from DMC, including the Japan White Legend ones

hoi hoi

Quick question, does the discount apply if I bag the records, or do I have to have them dispatched......

Second, is anyone else having probs hearing the samples on the site recently? It sounds poppy/broken/stuttered (not exactly sure the best way to describe it), just me?

Yes, you can bag your records and still get the discount.

Unfortunately our recording pc cracked up last week and corrupted a whole bunch of the mp3's we recorded. This should be fixed for next weeks sound clips and hopefully we will have time to re-record the bad ones. Pop us an email with the catalog numbers of any you find really bad and we'll make sure we fix them.
