Kimi Raikkonen... how unlucky is this guy? Retiring while leading.. again? Now the spanish will brag for months

Wtf was Monteiro trying to do there with Villenueve.. not going to defend him at all, i think he clearly turned to stop the overtaking. If he didn't saw Villenueve coming, why did he turn so suddenly? Anyway that's 12 finishes in a row, still hasn't retired, quite impressive.

Bad luck for Raikonnen, excellent drive by Montoya.

Quite amazing that the best car (McLaren) probably won't win either championship.

Only because they aren't realiable, and in the first 3 or 4 races Renault was faster..

Great first race for Doornbos, although a bit unlucky (drive through, hit by Villeneuve)

Has Holland had any drivers on F1 on the last few years? I can only remember Jos Verstappen, and this guy who was hyped as a possible F1 driver but never made it called Tom Coronel.

OMG, i bet Kimi is pretty pissed. These retirements are becoming a joke now, especially when it keeps happening to mercedez - one of the better teams.

Once again, there was hardly any overtaking - generally a boring race for me. Actually, even Alonso said the race was boring after kimi retired.

haha I liked the race... mainly cause of Montoya of course that was one hell of a drive today, almost made it.

i didn't think his drive was all that special.. he simply had the best car. the McLaren was just WAY faster than the rest of the field

the way Jenson took second in last year's German GP, THAT was one hell of a drive.

HONG KONG COMPANY TO BUY FORMULA ONE?

Hutchinson Whampoa Ltd., the Hong Kong-based
provider of voice and data communications services, may be preparing to buy controlling interest in Formula One racing for about $1 billion, reports BBC News. The series currently is 75% owned by three banks JPMorgan, Bayerische Landesbank and Lehman Bros.and 25% by British tycoon Bernie Ecclestone. But until recently Ecclestone had operating control over F1. BBC cites news reports that the banks are willing to
sell, but Hutchinson wants Ecclestones approval before it
makes a move.

Anyone read anything about this?

interesting, but theres been so many rumoured takeovers you don't know what to believe or not.....
First the banks wanted to buy Eccelstone out
Then Midland (who now own Jordan)
There was a group from Bahrain (mighta happened twice)
And now this group.

I thought it was a pretty decent race.

Moment of the weekend was a quote from BAR (about williams & Button) "they may well have a solid contract but would you really want somebody driving for you who didn't want to be in the team". Such short memomories

Posted by fcuk on Jul-27-2005 07:37:

One of the more exciting races from 2005, Button vs Schumacher was fun to watch as Michael had no grip with 25 laps to go and was fighting for his ferrari to come home. Kimi, what can you say, a top driver with the worst luck i feel so sorry for him as this easily could've been his first world championship. If it wasn't for Nurburgring and Hockenheim he would be right up therre next to Alonso, heck even Schumacher can take 2nd if Raikkonen has more bad luck which I hope he doesn't because at the moment he deserves to win the championship.

MICHELIN BEGINS $12 MILLION RACING TICKET REFUND

This week Michelin begins reimbursing ticketholders
to this years Formula One auto race at the
Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The French tiremaker says
it has set aside $12 million for the program.
Most teams in the June 19 race opted not to run after
Michelin discovered it had supplied them with defective
tires. The fiasco left a field of only six carsnone of them
in contention for the championship titleto parade around
the track on their Bridgestone tires.

Anyone else receive anything? I got a letter saying i will get reimbursed.

Posted by The_G0dfather on Aug-20-2005 13:00:

Damn, Schumacher
He was doing pretty well up untill that point; considering Ferrari had to use their older (and harder i believe) compound again from some 3 races ago. Not really effective for single lap qualifying since they heat up pretty slowly...

4 cars without a time? what the hell happened there?

Glad to see Kimi on pole and Williams a bit closer to the front.. BAR and Barrichello are the disappointments there. Monteiro with the new car (i think?) is still slow but way faster than the Minardi which is a good thing (unless Albers did some mistake in that lap).

Schumacher spun heavily in turn 8 i believe, same place his brother had spun right before. He didnt finish his lap and went straight into the pits, to save fuel off course.
Button also struggled around that part of the race but continued.
Barrichello => tires
Karthikeyan had 2 engine failures ... dont know if that means you have to go 20 positions back or just 10 like it is when you have one failure. Anyway, he didnt qualify...so prolly 20 i guess.
Dunno about Albers nor Villeneuve

Posted by Trance Nutter on Aug-21-2005 08:22:

And Sato has been stripped of his time for baulking Webber on his fast lap.

What the hell was he doing? He had his radio open, but not talking to his team. THis meant that BAR couldn't tell him Webber was coming, he was sittin gright on the racing line in a braking zone, AND he was only about half way around on his cool down lap by the time Webber got there.

Pure stupidity

Posted by noikeee on Aug-21-2005 14:04:

We've seen this movie before. Kimi wins but doesn't matter since Alonso doesn't lose much in the championship. Monteiro is to blame for Montoya's problem that made him lose the 2nd place, once again Alonso gets the luck

Trulli is having one hell of a season, very very regular, usually miles ahead of Ralf.. at least that's the impression I got.

Schumacher you you you you oh arggggghhhhhhhh

Great race. Bit of an aggressive move from webber considering he was only unlapping himself, though Schuy's at fault for the collision. Fell asleep for the quarter of the race. I was working so had to watch the late-night highlights

Great circuit, more of the same please.

Yep, agreed on the track. Glad to see a new track thats not flat. Probably Tilke's best work, has the flow and reversal of directions of China with the hard braking areas of Bahrain, and some up-down, all round a good interesting 'character' circuit

Schumi was moving around under brakes, and Webber was a fair bit faster than him, so these compounded into making the move look a bit aggressive. Still though, Schumi was in the wrong, Webber was almost level with the cockpit, he was way up there and he definitely should have been given room.

indeed. and that multiple-apex corner was a real thrill, even on TV

it's a bit of a shame Alonso got second in the end, but as a whole i think we've seen a great inaugural Turkish GP.

some exciting circuits ahead now as well.. Monza and Spa!

Posted by DarkFall01 on Aug-23-2005 20:35:

The race was alright, the new track was pretty awesome and different. Sucks Alonso only got second, but he was pretty damn lucky to even get to second place, he didn't really deserve it (this is coming from an Alonso fan )

Posted by fcuk on Aug-26-2005 09:22:

Top race, i love the new circuit with its elevation changes and those three blinding corners is just amazing, imagine the neck pain of the loads forced on to you A great way to start an exciting new ciruit. About that Schumacher vs Webber incident its hard to call but neither of them had a chance of getting anywhere so to me i didn;t matter. What mattered was Montoya losing that 2nd place it just keeps on getting harder for poor old Kimi.

Posted by TOR on Sep-04-2005 17:11:

how much more bad luck can one get the title is out of reach now for Kimi, unless Alonso crashes out a couple of times in the next 4 grand prix.. which is far from likely, given his defensive driving of late
