I haven't read the entire thread but let's put it this way.

If bunch of terrorists think Canada's worth a target, we must be doing something that bothers them.

It doesn't matter that you don't take those passages literally, or even that a large majority of Muslims don't take those passages literally. What matters is that a small but determined group does take them literally, and is willing to act on them - causing massive loss of lives and property.

It's similar to how there are anti-gay passages in the Bible, and a small group of Christians takes them literally.

Those people do not represent Christianity as a whole, however the Bible has influenced them to act like that.

You seem to live in some fairy tale land that's devoid of anything remotely real when it comes to Canada and our involvement in this fight.
We (Canada) are involved in a lot of situations around the world that you're either conveniently forgetting to try and make your point or just simply don't know (or worse yet, don't want to know).

Understand that the States can't control all their soldiers ALL the time; that's why they have military tribunals to deal with those dolts, but lets not conveniently make this Grade 4 assumption that just because some individuals in the American have gone bad that it bubbles up all the way through.
That like me saying that all Muslims are extremists because some want to kill anything to do with our Western society; that would be just plain ignorant...

If you don't see that that matters, you're missing the essence of Islam.

I'm not the best Muslim in the world. I could definitely be more patient, more generous, and more kind to others. I could be less sexually devient okay, I'll stop there...

But relatively speaking, when you try to compare the religion of Islam and connect the Quran (with it's passages taken out of context) to terrorism, I have to step up and represent--even if I'm representing an ideal that even I can't achieve.

Anyway, you're on the right track by describing Christians vs. gays--the minority believing in those passages doesn't make the whole Bible a categorically "bad" book, which is what you make the Quran sound like.
