intelligent music is something that strays from formulas and does something totaly original i guess....

hey i have an 'intelligent idea' why not start a seperate thread

all music is formulaic. its what separates music from random sounds.

Paradigm is an intelligent piece of electronic music. Call it trance call it whateva the fuck u want. As a guitarist in an indie band I appreciated the complexity of the minot chord progression in this track. The octave step up after the 3rd build up blew me away. Random sounds...maybe. Intelligent formulation. Fuck yes. And yes Gumble, its beer time.

See above... Trance does not only consist of the above 'formula' these days mate. As a genre it has advanced a great deal over the last few years. Many artists now encompass Progressive, Minimal, Techno, Electro, Rock & heavily classical influences in their music.

I have plenty of 'trance 'that has a great deal of depth, emotionally and in its production.

none of my friends have done this after 3-4 years of liking trance. tbh i think this has applied more to djs who try to conform to an "in" sound/genre in an effort to score gigs.

I would agree, based on my personal experience.

I've been in the scene for about a year now and I've loved trance since the start and I still do now. However, my friends who jumped in with me have all moved onto the harder genres.
While I enjoy a bit of the harder stuff now and then, ultimately I prefer to listen to trance. Which they call "boring" and "soft" and I tell them to "get fucked".
Some of my friends still love trance and don't really enjoy harder genres, but most have gone from enjoying progression and, what I consider depth of music, into instant gratification.

Having said that, a friend of mine who was into the harder genres for years, and still is, is now starting to appreciate trance again.

People should never forget their roots.

If someone has a REAL PASSION for music they wouldnt 'just stop' liking ONE genre that they've been listening to for who knows how long & jumping onto another-forgetting all about the other genre. THIS I DO NOT UNDERSTAND! INSTEAD THEY'D APPRECIATE ALL SOUNDS!

Ive seen people out that used to be so into trance & now just like house, yeah fair enough but really those people never had a true passion for trance in the first place!
