wish i could have made it to dinner, looks like everyone had a great time. i really liked the second half of blurr's set. sean was solid but i think the sound levels may have made the difference in the energy level. then as usual, the closer, in this case dirtyhertz totally rocked it. also went to the house room several times, which i've been doing a lot more lately... good stuff there by vahid.

Well, I just hope that anyone who was asked to go down to not take it personal. I was just trying to keep control. Especially during the first half of Sean's set when everyone and their mother who regularly gets in the booth tried to get in. I had to ask people I've known for quite some time to get down...

...as traffic in the booth calmed down during some periods, getting in was a bit more lax until traffic in the booth picked up again and then had to send those who were let up during the lax period down. I always try to give everyone who has shown a lot of support all the access I can, but the booth is only so big. Sorry. Should move the lighting controls upstairs so both sides of the booth can be used, lol.

I've helped control the booth at Ten15 at random points for the past 5 years or so now. I remember when there were no wristbands. Yet, it was easier back then it seems. :-p

To the person who Rizo says hates me, you would have been totally fine to stay when you came up later. Booth traffic was mellow and I know who you are and know you go to Ten15 a lot and hang out with the TAs. Just the first time you two came up, it was at a peak time for the booth and things had to be kept strict and in order at the moment. The person who was with you came back up later and I had no issues. But didn't see you come back up and stick around.

Everyone knows that I'm typically very nice. And I mumble a lot. And that's when I'm sober (note: Not ONE drink Saturday night, YAY me. Can't remember the last time I didn't have at least one drink, lol. I was just too wiped from SvD to drink. And hurting. lol) If I am ever getting snotty on a personal level, feel free to punch me people. I'll admit that when I first moved to SF, I was a bit smug. Thankfully my brain naturally kicked its own ass and over a couple years that went away. What's funny is that I never noticed it but everyone I knew back then gradually started telling me how I had changed as a person, and for the better. Yay SF and it's laid back roots and making me a better person.

Whenever I move to SoCal, if I ever start acting different from moving down there kick me in the face please. No offense LATAs.

BTW, I have a document I wrote with me rambling on with what would be my booth rules if I could post them on the booth doors. Problem is, it's far too much for any clubber to just sit there and read. Wonder if I should post it, lol. It's 2+ pages and 1200+ words of rules. The rules are pretty standard, just well explained in case you are dumb.

Dave

Well, its great to be acknowledged first things first. I'm glad you know exactly who I am Understand that you deal with not just one but a hand full of people in a single night with overcrowding the booth. Also I see that you mention about kicking people that you know very well of, but sometimes it may seem that you come off a bit agressive which maybe you might not realize that you loose control of. Anyhow what I had expressed to Rizo was due to you telling me something I clearly understood the first time you'd asked me. Didn't need to hear it more than once repeatedly jk

Anyhow, do what you do best.

I will punch you in the face if go over the line next time !! totally kidding

I think Dave should post the rules... I wanna check it out. Anyone else?

Posted by Essencia on Jul-24-2007 21:14:

BTW, just for the sake of the argument regarding the crowd being in the booth, when I was abrubtly asked to leave the booth (which I did without arguing why I should even be back there), I took a quick glance around and saw a few hands without wristbands hanging back there freely. I dont want to point fingers, but I knew a few of them.

Makes one wonder if some people are favored.

I can recall two people whose wristbands wouldn't stick. And another person's whose ripped because his wrist was so damn big. They just held onto them. I caught one of them trying to trade their wristband with someone else outside the booth, not cool.

People who worked for Ten15 would sometimes walk into the booth without a wristband.

Person handling Sean, Thomas Phan, didn't have one and I wasn't worried about it. I didn't have one.

I think the first time you got up might have been when Sean's posse was up there and they didn't have wristbands yet. It was quite awhile between the time they got there and they got their wristbands. That might have made the perception of plenty of peeps w/o wristbands being in the booth more severe. Also, if I arrive and there are already people in the booth, they are usually friends of the opening DJ and I tell them they have until a certain time (usually 12:45am, but I forget what time I said to peeps Sat night) to get a wristband or they will have to get down. Or if the booth just gets too hectic before then. A number of people did have to step down come near the time when Sean was set to take over the decks.

No favortism was played. I never thought "hey, I like that person and want him or her to hang around so I'll just let them stay." Just ask the number of people I know who I didn't let up. Or those who I know who had leave the booth shortly after I entered. I straight up told Blurr that I didn't people to think favortism was shown in a PM I sent him on Saturday. He can back me up on that.

Go ahead and roll your eyes all you want, though! No hard feelings.

The worst time to access the booth w/o a wristband is near when the headliner is about to come on since he is in there or expected to be in there so all those with wristbands usually fill up the booth. We usually expect people trying to barge in to get pics before he gets on and if the DJ is cool with doing it, we try to coordinate getting people in and out of the booth quickly to do it. Oddly enough, this never really happen Saturday night...cause Sean decided to dart to the bar and hang out there for a bit, lol. I love DJs who just casually hang around. It's so rare, but it's such a class act, IMO. Actually made things a little easier since I didn't have to deal with lines of peeps coming into the booth for pics. A ton of people tried to get in right after Sean got on to take pics wit their cell phone. Sorry everyone who I had to turn around then. Had to be about 20 people in 20 minutes trying to do it, hehe. I expected the whole photo thing to happen in the booth after Sean, but again Sean darted out of the booth and hung out on the floor. Again, so awesome. I usually try to coordinate a big TA pic with the DJ, but I was so wiped from SvD on Friday night that I just didn't have the energy to do it, lol. I don't think any pics of me were taken. lol.

As far as getting access to the booth at any part of the night w/o a wristband, I'll just post what would be my guidelines if I could plaster them on the door. It has a bit on it.

Some of these rules are not real rules, but I'd love to make them real rules (mainly when trying to barge in to use the bathroom)
====================================================================
====================================================================

NOTE: First note that both access guidelines change on almost a weekly basis. Factors such as DJ requests, special guests (ie. management group, etc) are a large part of the final decision of how many people or who will be given access. Whether you have access to the booth is determined each and every week. It is not a general decision that applies every time you visit Ten15.

IF YOU _DO NOT_ HAVE A WRISTBAND

1. If you do not have a wristband, do not enter the booth. Although, if you are expecting a wristband from someone, feel free look over the door and see if the person is in there. If he is, ask someone to have him or her come to the door. If not, please just wait outside until you see the person yourself. Please be respectful and try not to interrupt someone enjoying the music unless you have to. Only ask someone regarding someone else in the booth if you see that person you need to get a hold of with your own eyes.

2. Do not attempt to use the bathroom in the booth. If you are caught entering the booth and trying to use the restroom without the expressed permission of the booth manager, you will be dismissed from the club. Zero tolerence. If someone else (ie. club security) gave you permission, that person must be 100% sure to notify the booth manager in person that it's OK for you to use it. Do not enter the booth and say someone gave you permission. Otherwise, the booth manager will perceive your entry as without permission and most likely have you dimissed from the club. (OK, this rule might be far fetched, but it urks me when I see people just barging in trying to use the bathroom and spending like 15 minutes in it... uh huh).

3. Do not try to come in to talk to someone you know. If you want to talk to someone in the booth, have that person come outside the booth to talk to you. Please do not interrupt other persons in the boot to get the attention of your friend as you will be interrupting them from having a good time.

4. If you are not security and associated with the club (ie. a resident DJ or another employee of some sort) and don't have a wristband, please still be respectful to the booth traffic as you being there is most likely not considered when the number of wristbands given out is chosen. If things look OK, you may enter, just make yourself known to the booth manager of the night who you are and what your association to the club is. If the booth manager doesn't instantly recognize you, he or she may immediately ask you to leave before making yourself known. Please don't take this personally and just follow up by saying who you are. Also, please be respectful to the booth manager. He or she may or may not know who you are or ay have explicit instructions he or she must follow. If you are a non-resident DJ who is booked at Ten15, you have a higher risk of being denied access in the end, depending, again, on variables such as booth traffic and the how strict access is for the night. If you have guests with you, please have them wait outside and let the booth manager know. The booth manager has final say on if your guest(s) can come into the booth. The decision is usually based on the overall traffic in the booth, but other factors may be applied. The booth manager's decision is final unless told otherwise by Taj or Ten15 management. Don't take it personally. If you disagree with the booth manager's decision, have Taj or Ten15 management simply let the booth manager know it's OK.

5. On occasion, you may be granted access to the booth without a wristband. This is at the discretion of the booth manager or if the booth manager is instructed to grant access by Ten15 management. Access without a wristband is usually only granted byd the booth manager when booth traffic is low and if you are known as a person who has earned a little extra access. Don't take it personal if you are denied access although on many other nights get some access as the booth manager simply may not know who you are. Also, do not take it personal if you are not given access without a wristband why other people in the booth don't have them. Those people could be in Ten15 staff, special guests, or up there for another reason. Note that as booth traffic increases, those without wristbands will be the first ones asked to step down. Once you are asked to step down, please leave promptly. You do not instantly have permission to re-enter if the booth clears out again unless you are given express permission. Please be respectful to this policy.

If you DO have a wristband

1. If you do have a wristband, please remember it's a privilege and not a right. It can be taken away from you at any time, without warning and for any reason. Reasons may be due to your actions or because of requests that come in from the headlining DJ.

2. Just because you know someone else at Ten15 or the DJ or are a regular who typically gets access, you DO NOT have the right to enter without permission.

3. Knowing having a wristband is a special privilege given to you by Ten15, please show respect and professionalism in return. In a way, the moment you receive a wristband you are representing Ten15 and the type of patrons it shows appreciation for. With that, if you enter the booth in a state that can reflect negatively on Ten15, you will be asked to leave the booth and could very well have your wristband taken away. Don't do lightshows in the booth -- save that for the dance floor.

4. Having a wristband does not guarantee entry into the booth. If the booth is too crowded, you may be asked to wait outside until it clears out. Other factors may also come into play like a request by the headliner over access rules. If you are asked to wait outside the booth, please be patient and do so.

5. Do not stand or dance in the central area of the booth (where the DJ is playing) without expressed permission by the DJ and Ten15. If you are seen in the central area by the booth manager and he or she cannot verify that you have permission to be there, you may be asked to leave the area until he or she is able to verify it. Please do not take it personally if you are asked to exit the central area.

6. Do not cross from one side of the booth to the other behind the DJ without permission. If you aren't sure if it's OK, then don't do it.

7. Do not give your wristband to anyone else. If you are caught doing this, you will lose the wristband for the night and possibly not receive anymore in the future.

8. Do not attempt to enter the booth with a wristband that is not provided to you that night. If you enter the booth and are not recognized by the booth manager or Ten15 staff, he or she may ask for a closer look at your wristband to verify it's from the stack of wristbands handed out during that event. If you are caught using a wristband not provided to you that night, you could very well be escorted out of the club. (hopefully)

9. Last but not least, please be respectful to everyone who is in the booth. If you are seen causing any trouble, you will be asked to leave the booth and your wristband will be taken away. Also, please be sure to respect any decisions or requests made by the booth manager and/or Ten15 staff. The booth manager's word is final unless told otherwise by Taj or Ten15 management.

Fact is being direct is usually necessary. The first line I usually say to people is "If you don't have a wristband, you must get down. Sorry." (Yes, I usually say SORRY every time cause I in a way feel bad.) Most people give me this blank look when I say it. Like they are dumbfounded to be asked to get down. If you simply acknowledge that you heard me...as in verbally telling me, then I usually just leave you alone and give you a minute to leave. I do not know you heard me or care to respect the request tostep back down if you don't tell me and I am gonna just start saying "you've got to go!" or if you start talking to someon else for a second who is in the booth, I will tell that person "he's got to go!" over and over again. The second you don't give me any acknowledgement and don't immediately exit or if you start talking to someone else before you leave, that's showing a bit of disrespect, whether it's intentional or not.

And if you think I'm direct/aggressive, good thing you never ran into some booth managers in the past. Oh man, I remember when I used to try to sneak in the booth way back in the day. I would be leaving the booth terrified. lol. Remember one time a few years ago when BT was playing LIVE on the stage in the back. I was allowed

They way I see it, when whoever is in charge of the booth asks you to get down, that means turn around and get down unless you ask the person if you can stay just for a second and why.. Then it's to the discretion of whoever is in charge of the booth.

In the end, I don't have any hard feelings and hope you don't either. I help out whoever I can whenever I can in SF and am a STRONG believer or earning the privilege to get special access anywhere, to DJ in the main room anywhere, etc etc etc. Problem is there are some nights when there are more people who probably deserve a little extra access than there is access to be handed out. But when I am handling things, I do try my best to give everyone at least a little access at some point, even if just briefly. It all depends on the rules that I am supposed to go by and if there are opportunities during the night where booth traffic is slow enough to let you up to hang out for a bit.

so much drama over being 'back stage'-- the people whining need to look up the definition of privilege.

here this will help!

Wow This thread has been hijacked by the Backstage Drama..

I go to the club to dance/party never realize there was soo much drama going on behind that Gray Booth...

Been going to 1015 since 2004 and never even knew there was a bathroom back there

I could really use that bathroom from time to time..

Not drama, more just making things clear. If it was drama, I would just go too bad.

I just don't want anyone who at times probably deserves a little access to feel left out and am just explaining how things were handled.

I ramble on and make long-winded posts. Sorry. lol.

Fact is a large part of the booth is more of showing appreciation to the TAs on most nights. Cause Taj rules like that.

Honestly, the TAs were the least of my worries Sat night. Had no troubles with any there. It was these people who I had no idea who they were, nor anyone else really, and just trying to barge in. lol

yeah, no doubt...i wasn't mentioning you, just the individuals causing a stir because they weren't allowed back stage.

in the end its a privilege and should be treated as such...no one should flame the bouncer, security, or whomever that is just enforcing club rules

Oh its no drama, and certainly no whining (especially since no one is here arguing why they should be back there w/out wristbands )

Thanks for the definition of privilege, ill add that to my dictionary of words learned today

Without rules there is chaos...

Dave did a great job of keeping everything under control, people shouldn't give him such a hard time...

Look...

Being in the "backstage VIP" area in any club is a privilege...NOT A GOD GIVEN RIGHT!

Ill say it again...

@ 1015 SATURDAY NIGHTS AS LONG AS I AM INVOLVED...

NO WRISTBAND NO ENTRY!!!

Since these "incidents" took place in my absence this past Saturday the "lock down" is now coming due to a few "bad apples."

Shame...

Oh man I failed.

I should make it clear that no one who shouldn't have been in there stayed in there. Just people trying every excuse in the book to convince me to let them come up and couldn't understand no meant no. Of course you are gonna have hagglers trying to get in everytime, but they were out in force Sat night....and it was non-stop pretty much the whole night.

U didnt fail...People failed!!!

"no meant no"

Is the key statement here...

Posted by Dj Blurr on Jul-25-2007 01:10:

There is a simple fix for this.. Marie was thinking of adding a slide lock to the door over there.

Also, TA's understand that there is only a limited number of wristbands to be given. This also applies to many clubs, not just 1015.

Posted by DaveT on Jul-25-2007 01:49:

Oh BTW Taj, I totally busted a dude trying to get in with a wristband he just bought at some store. Was green in color, but I didn't recognized the person at all, asked who he got the band from, and he said "outside from Dave." Of course, Dave was out sick so he was screwed

Upon a closer look, the band was a little different than the ones being handed out. The end/sticker part was different.

I would recommend having Ten15 get wristbands with designs on them. Believe Ruby had to move from solid colors to designs a long time ago because of a similar thing happenin there. Not sure though.

Posted by DJ Taj on Jul-25-2007 02:01:

Got it.

Posted by DaveT on Jul-25-2007 07:14:

Ten15 should buy a poloroid camera so pics can be taken every week of those who arrive and are given access.

Post those pics up in the booth and if someone tries to walk in and isn't on the wall, just point to the pics and there will be no argument that can be had.

lol, ok stupid idea.
