Pfff, don't even bro. I've been following the Premiership my entire life, and I'm also pretty familiar with the careers of both players. Behrami made a small impact during Euro 2008, but he wasn't anything special at Lazio, so I guess it's time he moved. And you're going to tell me Tainio is exciting? He has speed and some skill, but his situational decision-making is his downfall.

And why wouldn't Barca need a keeper like Iker the way Real do? Cannavaro and Pepe are a much stronger combination than the Afro-brothers, and don't even get me started on Abidal. Alves is good, but he's going to be attacking so much that, if anything, Barca need an Iker-type more than Real.

what I meant was that Real previously had a defence of Bravo, Mejia, Pavon etc and that without Iker, they'd have been in a bit of a mess, whereas Barca have had previously some better centre backs, such as Puyol, Milito, Thuram & others who were way more capable than the ones I mentioned for Real. Because of that, they got away with not relying on a keeper as much, although a lot of it is to do with teams mentalities when visiting the camp nou.

As for Behrami, it was more how you dismissed it as being unimportant. Just because he didn't set serie a on fire doesn't mean he won't the premiership. Look at players like Shevchenko, great in one, shit in the other, Henry looked poor when at Juve but world class at Arsenal, so there is a good difference, and the way players defend in english suits the wingers more than the ultra defensive italian way, so I think he'll be a success. As for Tainio, sunderland need a player of that quality, even if it's not 'world class' he's still got a part to play in the league.

Good points. Thanks for clarifying.

Sulley Ali Muntari joined Inter for 12.7m pounds. Looks like they gave up on Lampard.

Roma is after Adrian Mutu. 20m to Firoentina and 3.2m euro per year to the player. imo he can contribute to Roma, this year it's going to be hard for them, when Juve and Milan are back in the picture...

Juve are also after Van Persie.

Hamburg declined Real Madrid's offer for Van Der Vaart. The Spanish news says they'll now try and sign David Villa.

Ajax sigen Oleguer.

I can't stand Roma, so I hope Mutu stays put where he's done well so far. Villa deserves a big team, but he should be starting every game, and the competition at Real is way too intense to guarantee that. And with Koeman gone, a revived Valencia could make an impact this season, if they can hold on to their key performers.

Well there's still a long summer ahead and Real will be linked with a handful of players...Villa is just a name at the moment, although I agree with you and think it will be hard for him to fit in the first team...

Posted by Ian on Jul-25-2008 19:40:

goalkeeper merry-go-round begins.

Paul Robinson leaves spurs for blackburn for 3.5million, which opens the door for Brad Friedel to move to Villa for circa 2mil as Scott Carson has joined West Brom. Martin Fulop of Sunderland rumoured to be on the way to Stoke City for 2-3m and obviously Spurs signed Gomes from PSV.

Also talk of Everton wanting the sporting keeper, serbian I think.

as a valencia fan I'm desperate for him to stay, or move to england & not the 2 dickheads in espana He, silva, Joaquin & Ever for example need to prove something, and if they sort the full backs out and get a good start to the season, I'll be happy.

Posted by Txebe on Jul-28-2008 15:11:

we could say that Cristiano will continue playing in Manchester.

i prefer signs David Villa, Van der Vaart (his mother comes from Jrez, Cdiz) or Huntelaar.

Spanish press comes again speaking about Kak and Cesc xdd

Posted by Ian on Jul-28-2008 17:02:

El Hadji Diouf to sunderland for roughly 2.5million pounds. Roy Keane has no chance of handling him

Bolton sign Mustapha Riga from Levante. He looked pretty useful for such a poor side & will give us something we didn't have before, nice move.

Robbie Keane having medical at liverpool
Andy Johnson having medical at Fulham ahead of 12mil move. Waste of money imo

Posted by jonze on Jul-28-2008 17:03:

It's a sad day. Robbie Keane is going to be a scouser.

Posted by Saka on Jul-28-2008 21:45:

Keane's gunna be a scouser!!!

20.3million??? Premiership transfer market is so bloody inflated.

Posted by trewqy on Jul-29-2008 05:46:

and to think torres cost just as much.

Incredible.

Posted by verndogs on Jul-29-2008 06:02:

Rafa overpaid for Keane by a lot, but the signing was a goo one. Just imagine how more effective Torres will be with Keane as a 2nd strike partner. Of course this is assuming Rafa will stick to a regular squad and not rotate Keane for Torres

he could have gotten him cheaper had liverpool not gone around the business wrongly. I see this as bad business as far as I'm concerned because we really need a decent winger on the left after kewell left.

From what i've seen from the pre-season matches.. the full backs doing the overlapping arent arsenal's standards. Our lack of width is disturbing.

Its not inflated. Its a master stroke by Benitez given that United , Chelsea and Arsenal are also in the market for strikers.

Now when the other 3 try to bid 20 million for a world class striker like Huntelaar or Villa , their clubs are going to say - Liverpool shelled out 20 million and got that piece of shit Keane, are you trying to insult our player who is atleast 3 times better and worth atleast 3 times as much.

Benitez has invented a new scheme to price his rivals out of buying players who would laugh at a move to liverpool - when the price of shit goes up , so does the price of diamonds

Your twisted theory could work if your playing a game of Gazillionaire, but this is real money, and Liverpool could have invested it into a good, young player instead of 'that piece of shit Keane', as you so eloquently put it. I guess we just have to see how it pans out, but I don't think much good could come from it in the long haul.

Arsenal isn't in the market for a striker, true we could add one to add stability, but the plan from Arsene himself is to add one player at DM and that's it. Ade and RvP will be up fron with Theo walcott as an option and Eduardo will be back quite soon, we were not going to pay 20 mil or more for anyone... we're Arsenal after all

Anyway regardless if this is Benitez's scheme, unless he's planning to spend a lot more of Hick's money soon, it's a pretty poor plan to try to overspend to cut the market when you're 4th out of the big 4 and need to buy more than anyone! This so far isn't going to get them past Man U or Chelsea:

It didnt even necessarily need to be a young player. You can get a top striker in his peak for 20 million. Dani Guiza went to fenerbahce for almost half that amount and he was top scorer in Spain last season.

Maybe i missed something about Keane with all the news circulating about what a mouth watering partnership Keane and Torres is going to be. I thought that all Liverpool would get for their 20 million would be 10 goals , 10 somersaults and the occasional irish jig.

Not a bad idea, just so long as they don't get caught & end up eternally dropping like Leeds
