YOU! You always post about having had a great time...

theres gotta be a bad dj set SOMETIME or a bad experience? AT LEAST once...come on trinity tell us of a nightmare club nite at circus.

perhaps you go by the whole "if you dont have anything nice to say not to say it at all" which would explain it.

I wish more of those of you affiliated with venues/promotion crews would call a

I can't speak for anyone else nor dictate what's "true" for them or not, but I've never had a bad experience at Circus for a number of valid reasons:
*I'm there with friends, so it's not all about the music.
*I love the staff and the regulars and have for years.
*If the music does suck in one room, there's always two others or the patio, or the canteena, or a friendly bartender/regular to talk to.
*Being trained in psychology may not mean much to some people, but it really does help in understanding that we alone allow an exterior to effect our interior - either negatively or positively. As corny as it sounds, I alway choose the choice that's more positive - Life is too short to do otherwise. And yes, that's a cliche, but it's "true" for me.

Ah, Dave T. Made my night! Looks like Tiesto was at Circus 11/02/02, which means I've been going to Circus at least 6 years! I thought it was only about five, since that's about when I joined the TA forums. I posted a review of that night with Tiesto, so it must not have been on TA then...it might have been on Spundae's own forum back then. Still trying to figure out when I first set foot in Circus...I know it was after Trinty because I didn't live here when Circus opened!

edit: Confirmed, here's my receipt from Wantickets!

Description: Spundae @ Circus 11/2/2002

Qty: 2
Minimum Age: 21 up

Event Venue:

6655 Santa Monica Blvd
Los Angeles , CA 90038

$2.65 service charge per ticket $27.65 2 $55.30

Whoa - easy there Tony! Can;t have too much of Carl Cox and this weekend is the first time in at least two years+ that he's playing Vanguard.

I am so torn between Jaytech or Cox this weekend.....

Posted by TSG on Aug-25-2009 02:58:

Carl Cox was at Avalon some months ago.

First time I stepped into CIRCUS was on a Sunday evening, Labor Day weekend in 1980. Circus would open around 6pm. They had a free BBQ out in the patio. Those were the days!
Things are different now in many ways and I still love going there. I've seen CIRCUS go through so many phases.

Not true! Malia is the one that always says she had a great time, I say I had fun, most of the times.

I'm like selfEvolution. If I don't like the music in one room, I go to another room and if that doesn't do it for me, there's plenty of people around that I can chit-chat with and still have a good time. I'm usually all over CIRCUS making my rounds and/or bouncing to the music when it good all over. Of course others may not feel the same but like selfEvolution said, life is too short and it difinitely goes by quicker each year. I just make the best of whether is talking with people and/or dancing to the music. If I didn't always enjoy myself or like being at CIRCUS, I wouldn't still be going there.

Tiesto is in Vancouver on the 14th

Nov 7 is Ronski via his MySpace. Dunno why that's a "secret"

Jeez, I guess I won't bore you guys by telling you what an amazing time I had at CIRCUS this weekend, lol I don't really need to say anything though, the photos and videos speak for themselves!

Here's my video from when The Thrillseekers was playing Chicane - Popiholla (The Thrillseekers remix)

Anyway, you will hear me say I had a great time at CIRCUS freqently because I REALLY DO almost always have a great time there! Anyone who knows me knows how much I genuinely love coming to CIRCUS. Like Chris and Trinity, I just switch rooms or socialize if I'm not into the music.

I do not know what you are smoking but I do not want any.. or maybe you where lost and at a different club I don't know... but this is your opinion....

I had an amazing time at Circus this weekend! It was so great seeing many of my friends out. I loved loved the LED wall!

Norin and Rad where Amazing yet again!!! They always start the night off right. Great energy and great tracks! I did not hear any wrecking or see any one really stop dancing.. In fact there was so much energy when they where playing.

The Thrillseekers played an amazing set as well!!

I will post my pictures soon. I feel bad that I did not take any video Next time!

It does those DJs no good if no one sits there and tells them issues they have with their mixing, programming, etc.

dude, SURE, but what if you feel that they are playing GREAT? (which I do!) Then should you feed them a false-negative feedback. I mean, WTF. Seriously, we could go on and on about this, and make 15 more pages about this, but the bottom line is some people like them, some people don't. It's like that for all djs. Some ppl like them, some ppl dont!

So whats the "acid test"? How do you know if the dj is worth it?

Well, seeing as we live in a democracy (or so they say). You look around, and if people are dancing, and they're pumped up, smiling, jumping up and down, shouting "yeah!" you can preety much say "Damn, that's a good dj". Technical bs outside. Don't you think that's fair enough?

Its up to the djs themselves to improve themselves. I'm sure everyone needs improvement. You can never get enough of that.

If you think they are great come on here and say they are great. You're an honest one. That said, a big issue on this board is what _some_ people say in public on here vs what they say in private. It's def not the majorit yof people, but I've seen it go on for so long with enough people to really always leave me wondering if they are being honest or brown-nosing.

That all said, I guess Norin & Rad don't really count in this case as I'm really talking about TAs who are DJs and DJ at their local club. And Norin & Rad aren't TAs as far as I know.

If they are great or have potential, it seems like they are getting a lot of exposure. Look back on openers that got a ton of that in a short period of time and you will see they kinda faded away...people got burnt on them as openers. Over exposure. Be careful and don't overbook them!

Posted by technofriik on Aug-25-2009 17:48:

Greg: Could you at least say which thread you're referring to re: the secret? I'm too lazy atm to look for it

Sergio: Thank you!

Dave: Thanks for explaining the Giant property thing so my lazy butt didn't have to do it. Now stop pissing people off!

Posted by DJ RANN on Aug-25-2009 19:36:

I personally would love to see slightly more proggy DJ's in the main room - but that's just my personal tastes...Jaytech is great start!!!

Hang on Trinity, did you say you first went to Circus in 1980?
