Good news considering I have one on each of my fantasy teams. I guess that's why I picked them. So you're saying they'd be the first to honestly challenge Maris' record?

Rivera just has to be extra perfect with his location to the Red Sox because they see him so much. 26 times just last year. Plus the Red Sox are the best hitting club in the MLB. I still love the guy and I trust him (although with some more trepidation then in years past). Too bad he didn't have the Gagne change up. That's deadly.

Well... not the first. Because Thome's come close before and I don't think he's juiced. But yeah, post-steroid, those are the boys. Possibly Alex Rodriguez. But more so Teieira and Dunn because they are younger. And the thing with Dunn is that he plays in a hitters ball park... but he doesn't barely clear the wall. The dude cleared the stadium once last year. !!! Monster.

Dunn won't chase 60 this year, I think if Pujols learns to hit to right center with power he'll be a contender for the chase. My money is on Pujol's this year, now that guy is a monster!

Then again I haven't been following his stats so I don't even know what shape he is in.

Anyways to the boston fans, how's that walk off feel?
What a game, the seats I had were great.

Oh and BTW to yankee fans, I have about half a season of 2 bleecher seats that i'm looking to unload. I'll let you all know about the dates.

something's going on with mo...thats twice in a row he's blown the lead...i could understand the sox owning mo, but two days in a row?? nah man...not even this early in the season...either something is physically wrong with him or he's tipping his pitches and the sox picked up on it...

if you go back to game 4... that's 3 in a row

and pitches should be singular. he has only one pitch

Posted by Highmay on Apr-06-2005 21:04:

well you cant really count last season...different situation, different pressure...and he has a pretty good slider that he hardly uses because his cut fastball is damn effective...i dont know...again, this is only the 3rd game of the season so nobody should panic..

Posted by Member of X on Apr-06-2005 21:18:

I just got from the game. Mo was not only hit hard, he was all over the place. The dude couldn't throw a strike to save his life. He's not usually wild like this. Actually, he blew games 4 and 5 in last year's playoffs. Although game 5 was unfair because there was a guy at third and it was a sac fly.

The Red Sox obviously have his number. They have seen him so many times they know how to adjust to the 2 pitches that he throws. But I start to wonder about him.... but it is early. This was the first year he didn't throw in the off-season so maybe he needs some time to get his arm warmed up. His fastball was topping out at 93 mph. He's usually around 95 mph.

Posted by Shamez214 on Apr-06-2005 21:20:

He's old too.

Posted by Member of X on Apr-06-2005 21:22:

Of course..... that's what I meant when I said I have been starting to worry about him.

Kevin Brown as the closer. lol

He has the mentality and it wouldn't strain his back so much. He has the stuff too.

Posted by Highmay on Apr-06-2005 22:34:

kevin brown as the closer for the yankees would make the yanks look so desperate...forget that option...im sure they have enough faith in the greatest closer of all time to give him space to blow about 5 or 6 more saves before management should really start to worry...

I agree. I'm only thinking desperate situations if it came down to it. I'm not that serious although it worked wonders for John Smoltz.

why not use tom gordon against the red sox? he used to close.

obviously mo would be more effective if teams seem him only so often. save him til the end of the season, then the red sox won't be so comfortable. during his heyday during the late 90s, wasn't his fastball regularly above 95 mph?

That's what I've been thinking. Probably the best option. Bring in Mariano every now and then. I'd wait to see how he fares against them in the next series though before using that option.

Posted by EarnYourKeep on Apr-07-2005 00:54:

i'd like to see stanton solidify his control and become the john franco for the yanks. I think MO/Gordon combo is completely overrated. When I played baseball I faced pitchers that threw pretty hard, you can tell when a pitcher who throws hard is hittable or not. The MO/Gordon deliver is almost the same relative to release points. Gordon's fastball is flat, usually pitchers are taught to throw with a downward motion. So over hand release points at the same velocity just lower at the knees. Any flat fastball can be hit by anyone.

MO's motiff is gone. He was mr UP and IN, ever since he started dazzling with the cutter he has gone to shit. In his first 4 seasons with the yanks, he only threw a change up, 2 seam, and 4 seam. The 4 seam was his rising fastball and his 2 seam was his inside pitch. Everything else would be 4 seam away, change up, 4 seam away, change up, 2 seam inside, change up away, 4 seam up and in. Now that he has this so-called cutter he's lost alot of velocity from his pitch and simply doesn't have control. When a pitcher learns a new pitch, he learns to compensate the location for the movement. "I can throw this anywhere as long as it moves/bites" Those pitches usually belong to starters who have an aresnal of pitches. I don't think a closer should have more than 3 pitches.

One successful formula the yankees had was Nelson/Rivera - now we are talking Nelson who will get you through 7th/8th and Rivera to close. Nelson for the obvious reason was affective, and Rivera didn't have to throw anything that cut/moved/bite. He just brought heat.

Now with Gordon/Rivera, both throw heat, both don't throw with movement, it's similar just Gordon is flat and Rivera doesn't have the control he had like before (because of his new pitch selection)

It's like the roles have been reversed, Rivera throwing with movement and Gordon flat as a tire. This combo doesn't work. You work Stanton so his location and control is on point, up his pitch count and let him work the middle relief (ala mendoza) then you bring the heat (rivera) I say Gordon should go, he doesn't attribute anything unique to the Yankee's Pen. He's flat, he throws hard, and lacks control of his strike out pitches.

Wah wah wah wah wah wah wah wah wah! You still have Alex Rodriguez, Gary Sheffield, Hideki Matsui, Randy Johnson, Jason Giambi... I think you'll be fine if Mariano blows a few saves against the Red Sox here and there. Such spoiled bitches you guys are.
