they have definitely changed.

when i started out, i wanted to look like ronnie coleman or flex wheeler. but as time went on, i realised that i would never get that big without taking steroids...something that i wouldn't do. i'm still a pretty big guy, but at 191-193...i ain't no ronnie coleman. really all i want nowadays is to be better than average and look good naked hehehe. even if i could get that big...i don't think that i'd really want to anymore.

the thing with working out for me is that i don't think i'll ever achieve what i want hehehe. but i can say that i'm pretty content. i'm happy with the progress that i've made...but college has taken its toll and i need to fix a lot of stuff. i also just like feeling healthy...that's apart of my goals so i guess i'm pretty happy with my situation. i need to lose some fat though hehehe...stupid junk food.

in the scheme of things...where do you think you are Diego?

i'm getting there, up until the start of this year i didn't really know how to eat or train or where i was going at all. but then i got a definite goal of the body i wanted and what weight and size i needed to be to have it. so i got measured up at the start and get measured at every point where 15lbs are gained. i've gone from 165lbs to currently 185lbs (should be at 190 but finals have held me back), so i should hit my goal of being at 210 by october, it's going to be hard to pull down my fat ratio at the same time as gaining.

well that sounds pretty good. as far as the fat. its all about how you eat. unlike most people weightlifters can manage their weight so easily. i mean i've lost ten pounds in a week and i've gained ten pounds in a week. its all about what you want. how long has it taken you to get to 185? i'm only a little worried that you might hit some kind of plateau.

well i was 164lbs on the 12 of january this year,
weighed myself yesterday and came to 185lbs, it's been floating around 182 for a couple of weeks, but i believe that's due to bad eating during exam time, if i see myself reaching a plateau, i just increase the amount of food i'm eating, shopping bill is getting extremely big recently. increased it 3 days ago again

ye something like that, i'm not a big cardio fan, so i'm putting it off for a while, and i don't seem to gain fat very easily so i won't worry about bringing it down till towards the end

i think its a good way to go as long as you know that you're making progress. one of the things that i had to deal with early on was i started taking those weight gainer shakes and i think i actually was putting on more fat than muscle. there is definitely some illusion to the amount of muscle you've been putting on, but its still worth it because the extra weight will help you out a lot in lifting.

i have a lot of data logs from when i worked out at home maybe i'll try and go and check them out and post some comparable numbers to myself at your stage. i'm a little surprised though. i would have though some of those numbers would be bigger at that body weight.

i know definitely that when i was around 175-180lbs when i was younger i had approx

Thighs - 24"
Bicep - 15.5"
Chest - 38"
Calves - 15"

i'm pretty sure it was something like that anyway.

if you're biceps were that size, they were absolutely savage, though it does depend on how you measure them, ie unflexed/flexed, my goal is to have biceps of 15.75" hehe

i wonder where the weight is going then

i think once you get there...you'll realize that its not all that great hehehe. then again i was always in the shadow of my friend who was at the same time that i was at that stage...

approx 210lbs
chest - 44"
thighs - 27"
arms - 17"
calves - 16"

he's alway been bigger than me that bastard hehehe...i think that you'll realize quick that if you are gonna be 210...you are gonna be a lot bigger than 15" arms

that would have been flexed arm measurements. do you take them differently?

keep this in mind though. he was about that 210-215...then he decided that he wanted to enter into an ametuer competition (we actually won) and lost a good 30lbs for it. i'm not saying that he was fat because he wasn't...he was a huge guy and in fantastic shape. that should tell you the difference though between being around your body fat at 210...and being completely ripped.

Sorry...just reading through this thread.

I disagree although I understand what you mean. I stay in shape whether I'm single or spoken for. Too many people let themselves go after they are in a relationship. Sure part of the relationship is based on the bond that you have created, but a guy would have to be crazy to think that I would still be as attracted to him if he gained 50lbs of fat. Truth hurts, but I am a very visual person and I make no apologies for it. Romance is great, but I don't stay in shape for my mate not to. You should always want to impress your mate.

The same thing holds true for people that let themselves go in their 30's and 40's. Sure your body changes as you grow older...that's all the more reason to change your habits along with it. I say this all the time and I get flamed left and right...I hate fast food. Worthless shit. I don't eat it. I also hate getting flamed for saying that I like a man with (muscle) definition. I love looking at a man that is ripped. Proportioned of course. If I ever post that I get bashed for being shallow. Blah. It's not shallow or there wouldn't be threads like this. It's my own personal preference. Guys like looking at women with nice bodies. Nobody ever says shit about all of those threads or their comments. I happen to like men with nice bodies. Yes, well defined abs turn me on. Sue me. Oh...and that nice little 'V' (David has it going on) is damn sexy.

You guys are all trying to improve your bodies. As long as you are doing it for the right reasons and have reasonable expectations then I wish you the best with it. Do try to remember this...there is such thing as being too big. Doesn't sound like any of you would ever get that crazy, but you never know who is reading these boards.

good post. i completely agree. i work out to look good for myself, but also for the person that i'm with. i want them to think i'm sexy damn it. oh and the "v" is the bomb...you gotta have that hehehe.

so you can like my body as long as i can like your fantastic chest hehehe...

Sigh...well guys, im off to destroy my body for a few days .. wont be pretty hehe. See you on the flipside (Boondock Saints reference).

Posted by Omegasox on May-28-2004 20:07:

There are only a few exercises I go over 8 reps on. If you're pushing 10+ reps, imo you should be putting more weight on. High reps mainly serve to maintain muscle strength and build muscle endurance. To build strength and mass, you need to go heavy at least every other week. I do 5 sets of 5 for all my main compound exercises, then 2 isolation exercises, each 2x8.

Posted by JayD on May-30-2004 21:22:

How much do you all usually bench during weekly routines?

JaY

Posted by Orbax on May-31-2004 20:17:

ill do

1x10 145
3x8 185
1x12 145

then do something else then go do 5x8 with 70db for flies or go for db press its 80s.

btw I drank half a gallon of vodka and 3 cases of beer this weekend. im not drinking for a while now hehe.

Posted by Boomer187 on May-31-2004 20:19:
