sorry you mentioned the word "fair", so just FYI here's his stats:

2004 TOR
games 20 min 30.4 FG 15.1 3PT 3.0 FT 3.6 reb 1.9 assists 3.1 steal 1.3 pg 15.9

2004 NJN
games 12 min 41.1 FG 20.2 3PT 3.3 FT 5.3 reb 4.9 assists 4.0 steal 1.2 ppg 21.8

numbers imporved after he moved to NJ? definitely.
did it help his team secure more wins? NO (they've lost 8 out of 9)
when did the rapotors winning streak start? after he left toronto!
so please do us a favor and don't argue about pointless stupid facts.
thanks.

Donyell and Jalen for Thomas and Penny?

Isiah seeks to score Donyell and Jalen for Kurt and Penny

BY FRANK ISOLA
DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER

TORONTO - Isiah Thomas' month-long pursuit of Donyell Marshall and Jalen Rose has finally reached a point where the Knicks and Raptors are discussing a deal that would send Kurt Thomas and Penny Hardaway to Toronto.
According to a league source, Thomas and Rob Babcock, the Raptors general manager, exchanged phone calls yesterday in an attempt to hammer out a deal that would represent Thomas' first major roster move since he acquired Jamal Crawford from the Bulls in August.

More importantly, the deal would also change the way the Knicks play since Marshall, who would play power forward, is regarded as a perimeter player. The 6-11 Marshall had six 3-pointers in Monday's win over Minnesota and is averaging 10.5 points and 6.8 rebounds in 24.1minutes.

The under-rated Marshall, who has even played center for Toronto this season, is the player who interests Thomas most. However, Rose is also a proven scorer, averaging 14.9 points in 28.9 minutes. He also has a reputation of being a disruptive presence in the locker room, which is why Indiana, with Thomas as its coach, traded Rose three years ago.

The success of both the Phoenix Suns and Seattle Sonics has apparently encouraged Thomas to adopt a smaller and quicker style. The theory is that if the Knicks can spread the floor with shooters - Crawford, Marshall and Allan Houston - it would maximize Stephon Marbury's ability to penetrate and pass.

The one major risk is that the Knicks would be sacrificing defense. Kurt Thomas, a natural power forward, is the team's best low-post defender. He is also effective in playing the pick-and-roll game that is Marbury's strength. Isiah Thomas, however, may be convinced that unproven second-year forward Michael Sweetney is ready to play significant minutes.

Marshall, who is also coveted by Minnesota, is in the final year of his contract that will pay him $5 million. Marshall's agent, Andy Miller, refused to comment yesterday when asked about the possibility of the UConn product being traded to New York.

Rose is making $14.4 million, $15.9 million next year and $16.5 million in 2006-07. The Raptors have been looking to move his contract since last summer. The same is true of the Knicks and Hardaway, who asked to be traded two weeks ago and hasn't been seen or heard from since. Hardaway's contract expires after next season.

Rose and Isiah Thomas had a famous falling out when Thomas coached the Pacers. Rose who has since cleared the air with Thomas, reminded reporters that his relationship with Thomas dates back to when Rose was growing up in Detroit and Thomas played for the Pistons.

"At the end of the day, he wasn't the GM or the president of Indiana," Rose said. "Ultimately, he didn't make the decision to trade me."

Rose, however, is represented by renowned agent David Falk, who is an archenemy of Thomas. Falk publicly criticized Thomas last season after Thomas traded away another Falk client, Keith Van Horn. Former Knick Dikembe Mutombo said that Falk warned him last season that once Thomas became Knicks president he would look to trade the veteran center because of a strained relationship with the agent that dates back to Thomas' days as union president.

Last season, Mutombo and Thomas also had a disagreement. Thomas had suggested to Mutombo that he take some time off - "a vacation," the center called it - and rejoin the team right before the playoffs were to begin. Mutombo refused to take a forced leave of absence and was eventually traded to Chicago in the Crawford deal and then was rerouted to Houston.

Bad deal. Don't do it! Don't! Penny sucks. Kurt can't play offense, which is clicking right now for the raptors, and we'd be losing our higest scorer, and donyell, who is finally starting to play well again. I realize both players are disgruntled, but donyell if he keeps his play up will get more and more minutes, and jalen can just fuck off if he doesn't like it. Furthermore, the T-wolves are interested in donyell, and since they have far more to offer, look at them first! I'd even move both of them together for wally, but judging by who's disgruntled in minni, they'd probably wanna unload spree or cassell. And we don't need either one of those players. #1 because spree would take mo pete's spot, and I'm more than happy with mo pete's play, and #2, because sam would take rafer's slot, and rafer although not as consistant, is also playing well.

I just don't see the sense in doing deals with teams in the same conference.

Pretty much, yeah... Marshall is kicking some serious ass on this team, and Jalen is contributing a lot off the bench (even dispite the fact that he's not satisfied with coming off the bench). Them two have contributed a bunch of 40+ combined points per game in the last dozen games or so along with a handfull of rebounds, steals, etc... and I don't see either Hardaway, Kurt Thomas, Sprewell or anyone else involved in these rumours contributing that much.

And if it's really about the players not being satisfied with their standing in the team right now, not being treated the way they would prefer to be treated or whatever... well, that's another story and I can buy that as a reason for trade. But I don't understand how can someone making $15 mil./year and scoring 20+ points per game on a team that is winning (relatively speaking) be unsatisfied. Greedy, maybe. Unsatisfied? Bullshit...

Posted by Yohan on Jan-20-2005 18:04:

I'd really like to bring Szerczbiak to toronto. He can't do post ups as well as Jalen, but he's a better shooter and would replace him well on the bench.
Kurt Thomas would be just another Eric Williams and I don't think you need two of those guys.
MoPete's inability to perform on the road may be a liability and Araujo has stone hands again.

Truthfully, I think Babcock should wait two more weeks before pulling a trade to see if Marshall and Rose can keep this up. Remember that Marshall was in a slump only few games ago.

IMO this team can get into play offs with current team in the weak Eastern Conference and maybe go far.

Bad deal. Don't do it!
...

I agree 100%...Penny Hardaway has been a chronic underachiever since his early Orlando days. Kurt Thomas is decent...but why give up Rose, our best player off the bench, and Marshall who's been on fire lately?

stupid deal.

if it's not broken, don't break it...

118-109 L
Brutal. Just brutal. Can anyone say help defense?

Posted by TheVrk on Jan-22-2005 02:39:

First, ANY deal involving Penny is a REALLY REALLY BAD one
Honestly he's terrible, BEYOND terrible even.
Oh God PLEASE dont let them trade for 'em....

Tonight they just sucked, right from the start.
Washington was due tho cause they got blown out REAL
bad by Dallas and San Antonio - so they were hungry, and it showed.

Let's just hope this doesn't start another horrific streak on the road.

Posted by Pett on Jan-22-2005 03:49:

wow, they acually got within 9, i gave up at half time

Posted by Yohan on Jan-22-2005 03:51:

First half was really ugly.

The Raps did decent to get within 11 on second half.

Jalen had a huge game. Too bad the rest of the team didn't show up.

Posted by Crazy Serb on Jan-22-2005 13:22:

I guess they left their defence back in ACC for this one...

well... they def. failed that one.
next ones:miami, phoenix. we'll have to wait and see.
btw what's up with this sam mitchel conspiracy theroy ?!?!

Posted by MarkT on Jan-24-2005 03:19:

missed the Raptor game...but with 14 points in the 4th alone, I'm wondering what more Jalen is going to do to convince everyone that we should keep him.

< 40 seconds, Phoenix up by 8 on NJ.

Vince almost scores 30 pts. and they still lose...again.

haha...I hate to be spiteful, but if he'd put that kind of effort with the Raptors, he'd have had a much better chance of winning!

Phoenix was smart in picking up Jim Jackson...nice move...and Pistons pick up Arroyo for Elden Campbell and a #1 pick...I like that trade for Detroit.

Posted by Sly_Guy on Jan-24-2005 03:33:

raptors win by playing in the 4th only again. They'd better not try to do that against the better teams in the league, but when they do decide to get out run, rebound and play, they look like a good team.

same old story with Vince... he can go ahead and score 80 points per game, that won't help his team win.

and Jim Jackson deal is a steal for Phoenix... these guys are just racking up talent on their roster. watch out now!

Saw some of the Suns-Nets game.

Nash dishes out assists like bartender giving out drinks on St.Paddy's day.
Amare is like, unstoppable.

Posted by MarkT on Jan-26-2005 06:28:

everyone excited for the Heat? Apparently they might be without Wade...gametime decision...not that I wish harm to anyone...but I wouldn't cry if he had to sit this one out

you heard it here first...Raps by 5 or more over the Heat...Bosh and Alston with double doubles...Rose pours in 20, 10 coming in the 4th...Shaq fouls out near the end with less than 30 pts and is blocked twice by Arujo

or maybe that's just every Raptor fan's wet dream scenario for this game

What is up with the Bulls? 10 out of 11 wins?

It's cuzz Eddy Curry and Tyson Chandler are in the last years of their contracts so they're finally motivated to play. I hate guys like these. Last year it was Blount and Dampier putting up double double numbers. This year, these guys are nowhere.

Bulls are always good at drafting players. Artest and Jamal Crawford whom they traded away but now they have Hinrich, Eddy Curry, Tyson Chandler and this year Nocioni, Ben Gordon, and Luol Deng. This team will make the playoffs! Now why couldn't we have drafted better players? Asides from Bosh, we haven't really had much luck. I guess Mo Pete is coming around again lately. But other than that...Michael Bradley?? Radojevich? Kareem Rush whom we traded away for Jefferies?? Let's hope Aroujo won't be too much of a bust.

you answered your own question when you said these guys don't play hard. Last thing the raps needed was another vince-like work ethic on the team.

I think we're gonna take miami tonight. Shaq will put up good numbers, but wade I think is gonna sit. Shaq's a dominant player, but the guys around him haven't been making shots, and he's not gonna score 100 points himself.

Posted by Yohan on Jan-27-2005 03:38:

Wow. Looks like the Raptors really stinked tonight. Eric Williams and Araujo is just cold.
