Got to love liverpool. Not from there myself, but lots of family there, and Im happy for em, as the last few premiership years haven't been the best.

Props to Liverpool from coming back from 2-0, but how the heck did they score 3 goals in 6 minutes. Dida... WTF!?!?!

Posted by TheVrk on May-26-2005 14:33:

LIFELONG AC Milan fan......

Words cant describe my feelings
We deserved to win in the first half, but in all honesty,
Liverpool DEF deserved this win.
Their heart and will to win earned them their European title.

I HATE that we lost, but you cant blow a 3-0 lead with one of the best defences in the world and expect to win.....

Theres always next year

What a fucking match, we cried, we laughed, we puked from drinking!

We were in a local London establishment (notorious Liverpool supporter pub) and the atmosphere was out of this world. I thought the game was over after the first goal, 50 seconds in!?! The opening ceremony performers were still walking off the pitch. LOL

The scousers are still celebrating all over London, most of which haven't slept yet. Hats off to the boys for pulling it off.

Posted by Yohan on Sep-13-2005 00:53:

And here's my predictions again

Tuesday, 13 September 2005
AC Milan v Fenerbahce, 19:45
-Despite last year's shocking defeat to Liverpool, Milan is still class. While Fenerbahce does well to get to CL 2nd yr in the roll, Milan has too much talent. AC Milan to win

Artmedia Bratislava v Inter Milan, 19:45
-Slovenian football has come a long way and their national team is emerging, just like their Czech cousins. However, Inter, despite their tendency to lapse at times, should win the series with no problems. Inter Milan to win

Chelsea v Anderlecht, 19:45
-Anderlecht had horrid CL last year. Chelski is favoured to win CL because they are too stinking rich. Chelski to win

Lyon v Real Madrid, 19:45
-It should be a really entertaining game. Lyon lost Paul Le Guen, but they still play that fluid football. However, with loss of few key personnel, Lyon is not as strong as last year. Real is still a favourite, but a lot of their key players are getting old and some of them don't have the heart. I think a draw is more likely, esp. at Stade Gerland

Olympiacos v Rosenborg, 19:45
-Olympiakos just barely missed out on getting through the qualifying, due to Gerrard's heroics on matchday 6. But they have shown that Greek football is nothing to scoff at and may yet pull another upset this season. Rosenborg of Norwegian league is making 2nd straight appearance, but they have no quality to match. Olympiakos should win.

PSV v Schalke 04, 19:45
-Hiddink is still in charge, but PSV lost quite a few key personnels that led them to semi finals last year. So, against Schalke, a strong German team, they probably have little chance, but Phillips Stadion is like another player on pitch. Probably a draw.

Rangers v FC Porto, 19:45
-It's quite amusing that the Rangers made it to CL, but Celtic didn't. Anyways, Porto plays annoying football. But Scottish football haven't seen good days in so long it seems. Probably a 2-2 draw.

Real Betis v Liverpool, 19:45
-Real Betis being a surprise qualifier IMO. Liverpool for some reason play better in Europe than at domestic league. Should be entertaining to watch. I think Liverpool might sneak an away win on this one. This game is on TSN at 2:30pm...

^^^ good post
it should be a great CL this year ... lots of underdogs who deserve a spot + great groups (first stage of course)

group G

Posted by TRANCEEEE on Sep-13-2005 01:17:

LOL " " indeed

all the other groups are well blended except for A & G .. DAMN YOU MAN.U. for having the easiest group ... CONSPIRACY

Posted by raveed on Sep-13-2005 01:27:

i agree.... this year the champions league looks like its going to be a lot more competitive than last year ... all the top teams (barring assanal ofcourse ) look a lot stronger than they were last year ... ac milan having acquired gilardino are still the favorites IMO although id love to see them knocked out early ...

i didnt realize what a strong team juventus have this year until i went over their lineup from last week and with trezeguet fit again and banging em in expect them to go a long way this year

i dont think i need to say much bout madrid ... talent there no results blah blah blah but robinho does look a class apart and with them finally finding a defensive midfielder to replace makelele they mite just deliver the goods this year

chelski obviously have to be among the favorites but with so many star players competing for a place among the 11 hopefully they end up with a lotta pissed of players as the season wears along

liverpool i would have to write of ... not signing owen was a big mistake.. cisse hasnt lived up to expectations and crouch i dont rate very highly ... morientes, alonso, gerrard and garcia are the proven performers at this stage.. no offence to the liverpool boys but they just about made it to the knockout stages last year courtesy that last minute gerrard strike and were clearly a 1-0 home 0-0 away side after that barring that 15 minute miracle in Istanbul .. i dont think its going to work this year and expect them at best to make the quarters

Inter Milan look as good as any other this year to win it... with adriano looking like scoring atleast 2 every game and having acquired the experience of Figo its time for them to shed their overpaid underacheiver tag

As for us .. well we didnt make to many signings this year but in van der sar we covered our greatest weakness since schmeichel left and park ji sung had one hell of a CL campaign last year ... rooney and ronaldo are obviously the 2 players our campaign depends upon... tough game this week against villareal .. forlans on fire but riquelme's a doubt... its an away game and clearly our hardest in the group stage so a win will do wonders for our confidence .. GO UNITED!!

Posted by TRANCEEEE on Sep-13-2005 01:34:

Juventus is a very strong side this year ... a crazy midfield + offense
so is Ac milan

ac milan forwards are the best IMO:
Shevchenko
Inzaghi
Gilardino
Vieri
Ardemagni

DAMNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNn

...............Kahn
Sagnol....Lucio....Ismael....Hargreaves
...............Demichelis
Schweinsteiger...............KARIMI/Ze Roberto
................Ballack
.......Makaay .........Guererro/Santa CRUZ/Pizzaro

I'd say MAKAAY will be top goal scorer besides ADRIANO !!!

Matchday 1 first half results

AC Milan 3-1 Fenerbahce
-Easy win for the Rossoneri

PSV Eindhoven 1-0 Schalke
-Good to know that Gus Hiddink is still a genius and Phillips Stadion is still a fortress for PSV.

Lyon 3-0 Real Madrid
-Shock of the night as Real was routed by Lyon.

Olympiakos 1-3 Rosenborg
-Gotta love own goals

Chelsea 1-0 Anderlecht
-A spirited Anderlecht side was beaten by well organized Chelski side

Real Betis 1-2 Liverpool
-Liverpool dominated 1st half, but Real Betis put on a resilient fight and almost came away with a draw.

Artmedia Bratislava 0-1 Inter Milan
-Scrappy Inter side clinch an away win.

Rangers 3-2 FC Porto
-Rangers show a lot of heart and manage to snatch a win despite some sloppy defending.

Posted by Yohan on Sep-13-2005 21:19:

Because I forgot to make my predictions

Group A
Bayern
Rapid
Club Brugge
Juventus
-Bayern and Juventus should have no problem coming out on top against very much weaker Rapid Vienna and Juventus

Group B
Sparta
Ajax
Arsenal
Thun
-Arsenal should win the group with Sparta Prague and Ajax fighting for second place, but do not discount scrappy FC Thun from Switzerland who have put on a brilliant campaign to make it this far. However, I'd put my money on Sparta to come through, because Ajax haven't been good for so long.

Group C
Bremen
Barcelona
Panathinaikos
Udinese
-Barca has too much quality to not win the group with Werder Bremen at their best form should come in second. However, Panathinaikos have been improving every time they get into CL and it may be their year to make it past group stage if they can pull off some away wins. Udinese also can't be discounted after a good campaign in Serie A last year, a bit of surprise.

Group D
Benfica
Man. United
Villarreal
Lille
-Man U have become stronger, though it remains to be seen whether aging Van der Sar can plug the perennial goalkeeper problem. They should have no problem clinching the group. Villarreal is another surprising team that had really good campaign last season in La Liga and if their key players can perform like they did last year, they should be able to get past the group stage. Benfica may be the dark horse in the group and challenge Villareal for the 2nd spot. Lille has very little chance.

Group E
Milan
PSV
Fenerbahe
Schalke
-Potentially the most entertaining group. Milan is loaded, so no problem for them going through. However, they know how much bite the underdogs can have as they have to go through PSV again. Despite loss of a lot of key personnel, PSV plays as a team under Hiddink and if they can play like they did last season, they have a good chance of going through. Schalke 04 on their best day can win against anyone, but on their worst days, they look like a team from Andorra. If consistently playing well, they'll get through. Fenerbahce when playing good is awesome, but just lacks the quality to beat many teams in Europe.

Group F
Olympiacos
Lyon
Real Madrid
Rosenborg
-Another entertaining group. You'd think Real can clinch the group and they should, esp. when Woodgate gets well and plug that gap in defence. But the team is getting old and lacks heart at times. Lyon still plays the fluid attacking football that is so nice to see and cut any team in Europe's defence into shreds. Rosenborg is the weakest team and they'll go down. Olympiakos put out strong performance at times esp last CL campaign and may be the dark horse. But when the dust settles, Real and Lyon should go through. But I can be very wrong and Olympiakos may make it through.

Group G
Liverpool
Anderlecht
Betis
Chelsea
-Chelski should take the group with Liverpool not behind. Betis and Anderlecht will try to play spoiler, but the English teams have too much quality.

Group H
Porto
Rangers
Internazionale
Artmedia
-Inter should be able to win the group and it'll be battle between Rangers and Porto. Porto is well organized team, but they have tendency to breakdown sometimes. Same with Rangers. And since no Scottish team has done well in CL in a long time, while Porto has gone through the group stages as well winning in 2003, Porto should take the 2nd place. Artmedia Bratislava did well to get this far, but lacks the quality to go any further.

Posted by Yohan on Sep-13-2005 21:27:

And tomorrow's game. Can you tell that I'm bored yet? :P

Wednesday, 14 September 2005
Arsenal v FC Thun
-New boys FC Thun from Switzerland takes on Arse at Highbury. Thun plays as a team and will try to hit Arse on counterattack. Arse also has no Henry for a while... But Arse should be able to breakdown Thun defence and win at home.

Benfica v Lille
-Two lowly teams battle it out and Benfica at home should be able to contain Lille.

Club Brugge v Juventus
-Juve despite tendency to suck a lot at times should win away.

Rapid Vienna v Bayern Munich
-Bayern should win against Vienna. Expecting a good game from Makaay.

Sparta Prague v Ajax
-Should be a scrappy game that'll end in a draw

Udinese v Panathinaikos
-Another scrappy game that'll go to a draw.

Villarreal v Man Utd
-Villarreal will either sit back and try to hit Man U on counter or go full blast at Man U. I have a feeling that Man U might just underestimate Villareal. I'll call a draw on this one.

Werder Bremen v Barcelona
-If Werder Bremen bring their A game, they can win. But if they don't and Barca capitalize on their chances that they will create, they'll lose. So I'll say Barca will win.
