its just for the first few pages people were all mad at me, saying it was like a great set or something. i'm still in the process of building my defense, and this was a lovely piece. aha.

You're taking this too personally. You don't need support from others to have an opinion on a subjective experience.

Also, I don't understand why you're so defensive, because if you re-read, a lot of people, way more than usual for big event like PvD, Armin, Tiesto, etc., were in agreement with you about the negative review.

if you checked pvd's website prior you would have seen that he wasn't supposed to start until 6:00pm, 4:30 was the official time people could enter the venue, so no reason to be mad over that

Hello!

I know I am a week late posting but who cares. Couldn't read though all the replies my comp. broke and so did my ankle because I thought in my highness that I could fly off the freaking roof off my garage onto the trampoline after the sun came up the next morning after PVD!!
What a great night!!! I had the best time and so did everyone I brought with me. My 13 year old stayed up front the whole entire show and when I had to get through the crowd everyone was nice to let me through and check on him. I enjoyed the show alot. I always like to see PVD and the crowd he draws. Its amazing. Just like my house was at 4 in the morning with the lights and the strobe going.

If my neighbors only knew!!!

Posted by yankeeBaby on Aug-27-2006 03:20:

^^Please tell me you were not high in FRONT of your kid??

PS: It was kinda awesome to see all of those young kids there habing a great time, on the other hand, me and mere were wondering if they could tell that half the audience was cracked out/drunk/whatever....not what I would want my kid to see.....I think the young one's didn't get it at least.....

I live in Texas and have been flying up to NYC with friends for the last 3 years and scheduling it around PVD in Central Park. We went both nights this year, and personally I thought it was the best year yet. Of course that could be because I knew the tracks he played a lot better than previous years and the fact we were in the front row both nights right in front of the drummer. I've seen PVD quite a few times, but I've never seen him as animated as he was both nights this year.

On another note, is the set from either night not being broadcast? I was really hoping that I could get my hands on a set I've actually been to.

Posted by chimera66 on Aug-27-2006 04:22:

yes

Posted by Wazup8012 on Aug-27-2006 07:50:

Honestly I loved a bunch of his tracks, but it felt as if he put a cd on and pressed random. There was no flow, no feeling, and that sucks.

Hey I know he is only human, and we fuck up from time to time. But when you get to be one of the best in the world you don't have the luxury of being to fuck up. You have to play your best all the time.

Also, he trainwrecked a bunch of times. I though that I was hearing things but when I heard someone else say the same thing I knew it was true.

I will still go and see him again, but I will be listening more carefully instead of letting myself go and letting the music carry me away with the tunes.

Just my opinion though!
Adam

No, I wasn't. We had to drive back to DE and I stayed sober so I could drive back and put him to bed so the adults could finish and I could get started. Thanks for asking though. My 19 year old was there too and he gets it. I heard Thank you more times that night then I have ever heard in my life. My kids are great. I would have brought my 7 year old twins but way to much, with the crowd, and the fact that they are to young, but dont get me wrong, my kids love PVD just as much as I do.

I think the kids were great too.. just please.. please.. get them ear plugs.. If they're small, they won't know when it's too loud.. and since hearing is crucial to language development, a single loud enough night, close enough to the speakers could cause a lifetime of speach problems.. Ya, i'm being a bit dramatic, but why risk it when ear plugs are 50 cents or so at duane reade..

After reading the reviews all i have to say is I can't understand that the majority of TA's did not like either set? WTF? Friday night was the better night overall. Only second to the 2004 Summer Stage set. It was a great time both nights. It think it's great and refreshing that Paul is using Abe. the way he does. He is using it properly.

Can you explain what you mean by this? Though I will admit not being a user, from what I've heard about Ableton from people who use it and from hearing Paul's sets, he's really not using that many of the capabilities at all.

exactly, he doesn't take it overboard - because if he were to start getting truly fancy with Abelton's vast features, the show would turn into a software showcase, not a concert. Paul utilizes the program for all the right reasons and at all the right times - he'll mix up a vocal from one track with a beat from another (ATRC example), he'll go on a quick and dirty mixing spree and phase between 3 or 4 tracks in just 10 minutes, he'll put a phaser or a distortion unit on a track's breakdown here and there, etc. But he varies all these and brings them in at the right times, not doing it too much - and not too seldomly. He doesn't try to be Zabiella, filling a set with countless tricks, loops, and effects. This works for me, and I truly loved Paul's Saturday set.

well he layered 2-4+ tracks & effects at times

there are recorded sets out there that he has done the same.

Friday night one of his mixes was

lambda new york vs unknown vs autumn

into

appendex e man of god vs lambda new york vs the other side vocals

...
if you dont know the tracks though it may sound like a mess of tracks lol

Posted by dxsire on Aug-30-2006 16:27:

but it all resulted in a boring mess .

im guessing that it wasn't trancy enough for a lot of peoples tastes

but i dont see how it could have been boring unless you were having a bad time for some other reason.
