Just got a chance to listen to the album.

Here's my take on tracks:

1. Haunted - 4/10 average track that kind of reminds a bit of 70's/80's feel, reminescent of some pet shop boy-ish sound structures. After few listens, you'll be skipping right by it (or delete it from MP3 player)

2. White Lies - 1/10, tho I have a feeling this track will be a major hit in Eastern Europe (Russia, Poland, etc..) Total cheese and doesn't belong on the album. Tho, dub version would probably rank higher. Maybe at 5/10 (considering it has classical PvD elements from 7th way and other tracks of the past)

3. Sabotage - 6/10, not bad electro number. Proper remix version would probably work much better on a dance floor. I can see it being canned in the future for sure. Esp. on ASOT - it has all the halmarks of chunky, farty, beepy number.

4. Complicated - 6/10 as some may have noticed already, this song reminds me of Luminary - "Amsterdam", possibly because Ashley sings it? . Not bad but I see myself getting bored with it soon.

5. Get back - solid 9/10 another Ashley vocal number + Alex Morph sound. Definitely a track that will grow on me into 10/10 in the next few listens. I love the hard banging sound in this one. It's a peak-time, hands in the air banger. Possibly one of the best songs on the album. I can see it destroying Central Park crowd already.

6. Far Away - 10/10 nothing short of spectacular. Reminescent of old(er) PvD tracks with definite Nu NRG influences. An absolute stunner of a track.

7. Another Sunday - 7/10 another nod to classic PvD and well-rounded track with some "second sun"-like vocals thrown in for good measure. Not as energetic as Far Away

8. Talk in Grey - NO RATING. I can't decide if I like it or hate it. Parts of it remind me of the sh!tiest tune of the year by "Gabriel and Dresden - Like a Fly". Other parts of it reminds me of 90's Euro/Italo songs (like 883 and Alphaville). Something about it that makes me like it more than treat like G&D sh!t. If I could only unhear G&D "like a fly", I'd definitely give this song a 6/10.

9. In Circles - 1/10. Bleh. throw away track. Somewhat reminescent of "ATC - Around the world (la la la)"

10. In Between - 5/10 nothing special (ha, typical in-between choon), inspite of being a title track. To me it sounds like it has bunch of elements from number of different tracks - tangerine dream, enigma, scirocco - destination, bbe - 7 days and 1 week, Holden & thompson - Nothing, and many other elements likely "borrowed" from other choons.

11. Stormy Skies - 0/10 (i'd give it a negative score). completely ruined by Whine Jackoff vocals. Completely unlistenable. Dub version would probably be better but I have no way of knowing as I couldn't listen to it over horrible horrible vocals. A-W-F-U-L

12. Detournment - 5/10 somewhat boring build up with very cinematic breakdown. Really weird choon.

13. New York City - 3/10 another Ashley vocal song. Her lovely voice can't save this bland choon. Something likely to be played by Armin in the first hour of ASOT. Again, very reminescent of Luminary - Amsterdam.

14. Castaway - 9/10 BANGER! Chills down my spine. Amazing vocals, haunting melody. Like sun beaming through the clouds on rain-soaked mountains. Simply Beautiful.

15. La Dolce Vita - 10/10 another favorite on this album. Life is sweet with this beautiful banger. Energy load on this is enough to make it an instant classic, similar to "For an Angel".

16. Let Go - 10/10 Entire song I wanted to hear G&D "Let it go" lyrics/vocals (one of the few G&D songs I actually like). . AMAZING SONG. Definitely is a cross-over choon (which many I'm sure will label as cheese) but I love it. U2 feel + Bono-like vocals, with driving drum line and awesome melody. MINT!

17. Fall with Me - 0/10 Going from "Let Go" to this track is akin to driving in an exotic convertible and crashing hard into manure. Not only you trashed your gazillion dollar exotic, but you stink like crap. Now you begin to get a feel for this track. Annoying vocals and as singer sings "if I set my hair on fire" it makes me want to really set his head on fire. Melody, lyrics, singing - horrible. Can't believe PvD would put it on the album. Tho if you like Talking Heads or torturing cats and kicking babies, you'll love it.

5.4/10 Overall

Throw away garbage tracks (below .6) and you got a solid 8.1/10 (tracks 3-8, 14-16) - 9 great choons on an album is definitely substantially better than most of the albums I bought over the years.

edit: My post in this thread is #303 - w0000t!

^^ Nice review, mate...totally in agreement about "Castaway" "Far Away" "La Dolce Vita" "Get Back" and "Let Go" Precisely those 5 were my best picks of the album too. "Far Away" and "La Dolce Vita" are the only real pure trance/banging edm tracks sans-vocal-style on the album...both were collaborations with Giuseppe Ottaviani of former Nu-NRG, perhaps this is why they sound so good?? LOL. Castaway is simply amazing, takes you to another place in time when you hear it. "Get Back" is the dreamiest sounding track vocally on the album, and Ashley's vocals do sound great..."Let Go" is a solid track, it's a little poppy with the rock guitar and drums, sounds reminiscent of anthemish "Time of our Lives" - sort of the rock anthem element..

The one track I would differ with you on is "Stormy Skies" - I really do like this track, it is a nice trance/edm track even without the vocal, I do understand how certain male vocals can be damn annoying to the ear, that's how "Talk in Grey" was for me, I didn't like the vocal there, or the lyrics.

I posted this awhile back, but thought I would ask the question again now since everybody has heard the album...when listening to "Far Away" for the first time, I knew I had heard this tune before, or something like it. Then, I figured out it was a Happy Hardcore tune called "Distant Skies" by the Uniques, on Anabolic Frolic Happy2bHardcore chap3.

LIsten Here

The tune, the riff, the notes...that's where I noticed the similarity. See if you hear what I mean.

No, LOL that is "Nothing But You" - what the tune is half-based on...but the track I posted above to listen to...listen to the very end of the track, the chords, the notes...it's got a striking similarity to the main tune of "Far Away":

Listen to the end of this track HERE - click here.

it sounds more like

"Alpha Breed - Epic Future
Duran Duran - Ordinary World
Aurora - Ordinary World (Above & Beyond Remix)
Orion - Eternity
Traveller - Bright Sign (Trance Mix)
Active Sight - Out Of Our Lives
DJ Tandu - Velvet (1999)
Factoria - A Legends Legacy
Marcos & Jk Walker - Apache 7
Lingen & Moore - Passion (Robert Nickson Vocal Mix)
Ian van dahl - i can't let you go
dj passion - hobbs end
armin van buuren - shivers"

I hadn't even noticed 'til you pointed it out, but it's quite ironic that the huge flame wars often stem from an overly aggressive response from a fan who, while complaining about the lack of positivity on this board & others, loses his temper when someone else criticizes a release.

The way the synth arrangements, dramatic changes, and the contrast between the lows (base), and highs (melody/vocals)... make a tune stunning to my ears. Psy-Full On naturally lends itself to a nice bass/lead contrast... But Psy-Full On artists tend not to have very good leads, but rely on wicked basslines.

Classical music doesn't have what I look for in music.

To each his own, but any comparison of edm to 'classical' compositions is absurd. While music is largely defined by its reception, and, thus, opinions, regardless of how ignorant or irrational or biased the logic behind them may be, most effectively determine the value of a given piece, it is both fair and possible to compare the quality of any work to another, and almost nothing made in the past 100 years (if not longer) measures up to the level of musicianship that dominated previous periods.

That, by no means, means that you shouldn't enjoy anything else, but it's important to at least be aware of the fact that what you're listening to are essentially listener-friendly jingles with remedial composition expressed through modern technology. The only breakthroughs being made now are in the actual production. That has value in and of itself, but shouldn't be confused with musicianship.

Yeah, I just downloaded the version from iTunes, when I saw the tracks were significantly longer...(ex. "Far Away is 3:32 on the regular CD mixed version, the iTunes version is the full unmixed version, and it's 8:17, same thing goes for La Dolce Vita and pretty much every other track) The iTunes version is still 17 tracks, but it's a total of nearly 2 hours of audio, where the CD version is like 1 hr 17min...so if you are a die-hard fan and want the full-length versions, say, to use for a DJ mix or just to listen to the actual real cut of the track, you should check out the iTunes version. It's also alot cheaper at $9.99 and it's really good quality 256k AAC. In my opinion, the quality of the mixing on the CD (the storebought mix CD) is nothing spectacular, it's certainly not an "Out there and Back" quality of mix, the CD's selections are random in style and don't really make a great mix on the clubbing scale, but, they ARE mixed to sort of make it flow. My advice, if you haven't gotten "In Between" yet and are thinking about it, get the iTunes version. It's cheaper and alot more "complete" (ie. full versions of tracks) - the version floating around on torrent is the standard mixed version, not the full version feat. on iTunes store. The iTunes album download w/booklet is right at 223MB, much larger than the leaked standard versions on torrent, which are also lower quality. Also, remember, artists need to make money to keep producing, and PvD has done alot for the EDM scene through the years - the $10 for the iTunes CD is basically a no brainer, it's a good deal.

Thanks a lot for that piece of insight man (no sarcasm here).

Wow. On initial listen some really stunning tracks, though some average ones too. Nothing too attrocious in initial listen, so overall a pretty good album. I was worried it was gonna get too electroey but it didn't happen.

I think PVD probably shut down a lot of ppl whining earlier in this thread. Just a real diverse mix of options of what he could've put down. It's a pity it's got enough poorer tracks to give leaverage to ppl who say it sucks or is too poppy.

well said.

this album is very dissapointing. no killer tracks, everything sounds recycled and old.

even La Dolca Vita sounds like a mashup of 2 songs i've heard before, they're definitely in my mp3 library.

i have to relisten to give a more accurate review.

U know white lies and in between are 2 opposite ends of the pole.

In between was probably the best track on the album for me, and I'm surprised other people didn't like it more. I couldn't stand shit like white lies, and unfortunately about half of the album was like that.
