Chris Eagles --> Burnley

What are your thoughts Man U fans? Realize he was never going to crack a starting role with the Red Devils, but from what tape I've seen of him, doesn't this seem like a bit lower than his caliber of play and only for 1 mil? Granted it looks like he'll have a bang up season with lots of playing time and then move up somewhere, but surprised a lesser premiership team wouldn't have bid on him for more & been able to let him compete for a starting role.

Lilian Thuram's move to PSG cancelled after a medical finds a heart-related issue, forcing him to retire from the game. I must say, he will be missed. Like a rock in the centre of defence in his heyday, in terms of skill and motivation, so I hope he takes on coaching to glean some of those qualities to younger players.

That really sucks. Always a little bit sad to see a great player have to retire early.

retire early?? FFS hes 36!!

For anyone doubting the Keane transfer you may want to consider the fact that we have shipped out Crouch who while admittedly didn't play much last season but he contributed 5 goals in the league and replaced him with Keane who's proven to have scored 20+ goals per season (all competitions) and I think with the team around him at Liverpool will have the potential to maybe better that. I think he will be a valuable addition to the squad.

Gareth Barry will also be a Liverpool player by the end of the week and i think that David Ngog could well be the surprise package this year if he is given some decent playing time. Watched him today against Rangers and he scored an excellent goal.

Oh and Pennant will be on his way out to Blackburn too which will possibly pave the way for an additional signing either attacking right or left midfield but it won't be a winger as Rafa clearly doesn't want to play with wingers.

I see his point though, it was an external circumstance that forced him to retire. It wasn't like he'd ran out of steam or anything.

Van der Vaart to Real Madrid for 13 million.

I know they're different types of players, but does this mean that they've ACTUALLY moved on from signing Cristiano Ronaldo (i.e. not go in the news one day and say it's unlikely they'll sign him, and then come back the next day saying Manchester United should let the player do what he wants)?

Heh would be nice to see the back of that saga. I doubt he will be moving this summer now though.

Also why was there no one else sniffing around Van der Vaart when he has gone for very reasonable money in an expensive market at the mo?

Rafael van der Vaart to Madrid.

His contract had a clause that would have let him leave for 1.5 million at the end of next season. Hamburg valued him at around 30 million, so they were satisfied to see him go for half this summer rather than for pennies next summer. Why we didn't hear about anyone else in the race after him? I don't know. But I do wonder what jersey he'll be getting, seeing as how Robinho has #10 and Sneijder has #23.

In case people weren't aware, Messi picked up #10 for the coming season (which means I'll be getting myself a brand-spanking new Barca jersey).

12 months ago, Rafael came close to joining valencia but then the president decided to start being a **** to Quique Sanchez Flores & brought the ginger dutch prick in as manager to ruin things instead and I don't think we can afford him realistically now, but he's always wanted to play in spain ahead of england on account of his spanish mother, Mike.

crosas to sign for celtic from barcelona. reported on the barca web site.

Also expecting to hear about marko basa signing shortly too.

These two plus a left back and i'll be well chuffed

Shame really, I think he would have had a much greater impact at Valencia. Like I could see them building the whole team around him, and even though they picked up Ever, he hasn't been anything special to date (supposedly Atletico want to pick him up on loan).

P.S. Anyone else notice how fine Sylvie Van Der Vaart was looking at his presentation today?

to be honest, a midfield duo of Ever & Rafael would've been pretty exciting. As it is, with Sunny loaned out to I think Osasuna, we're gonna be relying on Baraja, Ed, Albelda if he stays and the dutch guy who I don't rate, Hedwinges something. However on the positive side, Emery has got everyone on the same level which is good and Mata was pretty good coming through last season so there are some positives. Still believe Marchena is a weak link at the back and we're a quality centre back away from top 6 again, plus a forward to make the impact morientes did a couple of years back.

Yeah, people were expecting big things from him. I think the attention has now been deflected to Urby Emanuelson as the next 'big thing'.
