Worm Popper

interestingly, Mozart was considered "mindless trash" in his day, because he could just crank out new music.

Where are you getting that?

Bach could "crank out new music" as well, perhaps even more efficiently than Mozart, but no one ever considered his stuff "mindless trash." As a court or church musician in the 17th and 18th century, you either "cranked out new music" or you got fired. So as you might imagine churning out new stuff each week was pretty common at that time.

Of course the general attitude then was that all composers were "lackeys" of sorts, paid employees meant to please their employers in the courts and churches, not "artists" displaying their own independent visions to the public at large. But that social fact says little about attitudes toward Mozart's music in particular. Cultural icons like Goethe and Haydn praised Mozart when they heard his compositions, so I'm inclined to think that you just pulled that statement out of your ass.

leave it to trance addict to throw in mozart, danny howells, the bernstein bears, the mother fuckin easter bunny and some ninjas for good measure, into some thread made up of 99.9% "whine" because some self proclaimed "critics" don't like what i want to do with my music.

i am eternally grateful that, no matter what, at the end of the day i can still run my musical career however the hell i want. *bonus* you don't have to love it.

I don't recall anyone mentioning the Berenstein Bears. I think you meant to say "leave it to trance addict to compare people who care about advancing music into a thread about people who just want to self-promote."

so i should leave the promoting to..... you? i'll take my chances with the ninjas bro.

** i didnt start this thread... i just jumped in for a laugh. mission accomplished!

Its just a matter of perspective. If you're happy playing for the big fuck-off festival crowd, making rather formulaic predictable dance music for the masses, bomb.com...you're gonna make bank sooner or later (that means props to Joel Zimmerman), it's clear tons of people are already loving it.

Some of us would rather search for something deeper, push creativity and inspiration further, and strive to be more like DJs such as Howells, or producers like The Mole. We'll always be that fringe viewpoint that generates this kind of backlash...fortunately for all of us dance music is big enough to where all of these perspectives can exist and thrive, even though there is friction when they meet, like in this thread.

I believe you are leaving out some details as to why you were using photons that whole time.

If he enjoys what he is doing and so do the people that he plays for, what exactly is wrong? Go ahead and argue technical points, but at the end of the day it all comes down to whether you are enjoying yourself and waking up in the morning ready to do what you love.

Because this is a music discussion forum and as such points of view will clash and be discussed.

his complete and almost scornful dismissal of certain others who entertain differening ideas is pretty telling IMO

anyways i'm seeing identical discussions across messageboards

post of the year, seriously this made this whole thread worth reading.
my 2 cents: everyone is right to have an opinion at the end of the day though its all the same. if you listen to "underground" a.k.a. dubfire and someone listens to deadmau5 its the same at the end of the day. why? because each individual is happy with what they are listening to. all the criticism by the "elitists" is falling on deaf ears. Joel couldnt care less and thats evident.
However this is a music discussion forum so theres nothing wrong with stating why in your opinion his EM sucked.
I listened to the mix and i thought it mediocre at best. I tried to pretend that i didnt know all the tracks were by deadmau5 so that I wouldnt be biased to hate. At no point did I say wow and at no point did I stop the mix sooooo just ok in my book...

if you couldn't tell by now everything to deadmouse is a joke. his name is a joke. his stupid mouse suit is a joke. his music is a joke. his uber intelligent replies and comebacks are a joke. and clearly he doesn't give a shit because the whole dj thing is pretty much a joke to him and it really doesn't matter as long as he's making bank. amirite?
deadmau5 is not an artist he's a joke.

....and i really gotta hand it to the guy, he does provide me with plenty of lolz through threads like these.
