I am listening to Paul Van Dyk @ Cream Amnesia 2002.
That actually reminded me of this site. I remember there was a shoutout to TranceAddict during the show. Does anyone remember this?
I could swear it is this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KIv2EIBd2A
Anyways amazing tracklist that brings back good memories.

Hah. I saw him at Fabric last night. He was the best of the lot, as he always is.
Was playing Stasis Sounds for Long-Distance Space Travel this morning, went digging afterward and stumbled upon this gem of a techno mix. Released on SC five years ago but out on vinyl this month. Pleasantly surprised to find that Theef is from Crete, which is where I live at the moment. Pretty cool random discovery.
Sasha & Digweed together again in TO next weekend after 7 years! Mega crew of TAs going, obviously.
Priming with this old gem:

I might be in for that one.
This sasha set would probably be the last set I've enjoyed in a while.
I know he released a luzoscura cd comp, but that one didnt do it for me.
I don't mean to urinate on your vegetable patch, but I saw them together in September and thought they were very dull. I decided I wouldn't bother seeing them anymore. Think it's been seven times in various combinations of solo and together now, and only once did I have a genuinely good night.
Lol well thanks Jack.
I saw them together in Brooklyn 2019 and it was out of this world. Have also seen them many times in all iterations and have def been disappointed more than not lol. I'm only mostly cautious about Sasha. But the last three times I've seen him he's been in top form....three outings in a row of satisfaction is a record.
2019 was the time I saw them together and they were really good, actually. Was the only time when I felt like they had that classic S&D driving energy.
I know from your other posts you've made in the past that you enjoy their modern sound more than me, so my opinion will probably have no resemblance to yours.
Heh yeah. But really like I said it's the Sasha factor. He's actually been consistent AND professional the last few times I've seen him which is what makes the potential for this night so promising.
Because, in fact, the venue this party is happening at is a big douchey Saturday night horny brown guy crowd lol. To mitigate this, a bunch of us have gone in on a VIP booth, as we're celebrating a couple birthdays in our group as well.
A couple years ago Digweed and Dubfire played together at the same club and we got a booth then, specifically to have our own space and not deal with the crowd (also we're all 40ish, and it's nice to sit LOL). We had the most amazing night and vowed it was the only way, going forward, we'd be able to go to this venue again.
The Digweed + Dubfire combo was surprisingly good. I had extremely low expectations because I do NOT like Dubfire lol. Digweed brought out the best in him though!
Also I have to tell this story....
At WMC in 2015 I saw both Digweed and Sasha, at separate parties. Digweed was off the chain - that set was recorded and ended up as his Live In Miami. People were literally bouncing off the walls in Treehouse. Absolutely nuts.
Sasha, on the other hand, was probably peak godawful. We went to his Last Nite On Earth yacht party. Except HE went to the wrong dock. So after we sat around on the boat for an hour, we had to go pick him up at the dock he was at. When the boat got there he proceeded to make the entire party wait nearly another hour for him to get on the boat. Gave no fucks.
After the party gets going, my gfs and I went inside to use the bathroom. As we're waiting in line, I see Sasha and a couple buddies enter the doorway from outside, walking towards the bathroom. I stared at Sasha as he approached the line. I made a really confused looking face and he looked at me like "Wtf". I pointed to his chest and was like "Omg Sasha is that a hole in your shirt??" He looked down and I waved hy hand upwards and flicked his nose. His buddies laughed and he said to me "YOU'RE A PEST" HAHAHAHAHA
And then I said "Yeah, well at least I show up for work on time."
When he took to the decks later I stood right up front during his set and glared at him the whole time.
Funny he wasn't shit each time I saw him after that LOLOLOLOL.
Two things strike me about this:
1. Sasha being late for his own boat party is absolutely quintessential Sasha.
2. All this stuff about VIP tables and big underground DJs playing at commercial meat market clubs is so alien to me. That culture just does not exist in the UK. The only club I've ever been to like that in the UK is the Ministry Of Sound, which is basically a gigantic tourist trap. But then I read about places like Stereo in Montreal which sounds like a music lover's dream. Dance music in North America is so fucking strange.
Oh yeah it's totally a Toronto thing. It's not lacking for incredible acts always coming through but the crowds are noticeably try hard compared to every other major NA city I've been to to party.
We've also lost the best clubs years ago to condos or other developments. Nothing had ever REALLY filled the void of places like Guvernment, System Soundbar, or Industry (which was before my time/I never went to but anyone who did will say so).
Yes, Stereo is Mecca. The difference even between MTL and Toronto is huge. Thank God MTL is just a short plane ride away.
I'd say there's been a pretty decent warehouse revival the past 5+ years in TO. I don't care for clubs and much prefer the vibe and execution of warehouse jams. Again, TO definitely never lacking for sick talent coming through. Just need great spaces.
Wanted to catch them in Bristol last month with Warren on opening duties at Motion but a resale ticket never popped. The flight would've been a PITA and expensive anyway. Wonder how that party went.
Before 2019 I hadn't seem them together since the early 2000s. I really didn't know what to expect in 2019 but it exceeded anything. Incredible venue (The Brooklyn Mirage), great crew of friends including TAs, and overall top tier crowd and vibe - it was mostly older people!! Very noticeable difference when the old schoolers are in full force. Also, NYC. <3
I don't even recall how I was convinced to take that trip. I'm not one for FOMO and at that point I really had zero faith in Sasha. But holy hell am I glad I let my friends take the wheel - that was the last big headliner party I went to before Covid, and when the pandy was full swing and we were all cooped up, I thought of that adventure often with full appreciation.
heads up on traffic.. gardiner is down to 2 lanes and there is major construction happening in and around cherry street. i took my partner to a shitty romanian pop concert there (INNA) and it was pretty bad getting out lolll. hope you guys all enjoy the show
Oh yeah already aware. Those of us Ubering are getting dropped at Keating Channel Pub instead of Rebel.
yea I realized I dont like those clubs. im too crusty for that shit, or not crusty enough.
is that brickworks venue good? nick warren seems interesting where is the b2b with hernan tho
Hernan just recently b2B'ed with Howells at the McCormack warehouse.
I might crack and go see surgeon but Im not his biggest fan. Stingray is looking pretty good though
Oscar Mulero playing that party too eh? Where is Stingray playing??
Rodhad on Friday too. And Paul Woolford was supposed to be in town on Sat but I see it's been postponed... Which is great cause I def wanna hit that.
Edit: AND Justin Strauss... Damn that weekend is stacked.
Some place on Geary which Ive never heard of. Id def go see rodhad but I need to go to Kingston
Standard Time? I love Geary Ave!
Yeah, thats the place (according to RA) I was down two weeks in a row at blood brothers and didnt notice that venue
