This number does not take into account that I played a college sport, am wide in the shoulders, still can see four of my six abs, or anything else. I'm in the gym 5-6 days a week, on top of skating 4 days a week. If you were to grab another person in the gym that fit into the "healthy" range, more than likely I could either out lift or out run them.

Every single professional athlete would fall into the unhealthy category (with a few exceptions).

Healthy is an individual feeling not some random stupid number. Each person has a different body structure, goals, etc. If you are really looking for a number that dictates some degree of healthiness look at body composition (% body fat).

I'm well aware that BMI isn't a diagnostic indicator of actual health...but it IS a good reference point.

edit: My % body fat is currently around 25.

I've been lifting for 9 years and I'm pretty confident I know what works and what doesn't work for my body by now. I've helped many friends start out in the gym and I've always gave them guidance on what has worked for ME and that it might not work for them. Everyone reacts differently. Preacher curls might have worked wonders for my biceps but they might not do jack shit for Joe the Plumber. I've approached my workouts with a plan, a proper diet, and 7-10 hours of sleep a day.

We probably have different views on overtraining. To me it isn't time in the gym or how much you grow... it'd be snapping muscles, not being able to get out of bed, pushing the body past what it can do, etc. With your mentality, heavy laborers on construction sites should work for a few hours and then take the next 3-4 days off to "sit on their ass" and relax.

You're a complete moron. One of the dumbest posts I have seen in relation to training. Working out for 9 years to boot, lol. Please do other people a favor and never give training advice.

Is that magazine worth subscribing to? I was thinking of signing up the other day but cant get over the gay black and white models they use on the front cover.

Hell no, that mag is an utter piece of shit with useless common sense information. Go hit up the Bodybuilder forums for better, proven info.

isn't that a weird spot to get sore though? like on the TOP of your foot? it only seems to bother me when i'm wearing shoes...

Posted by Silky Johnson on Jan-30-2009 23:35:

Not really..especially if you've been out of the game for a little while. But I don't really know...would be easier to tell what's wrong if I could actually look at and palpate your foot.

You may just need better shoes with more arch support. Or maybe it's just bruised.

well i don't bruise (i scar, don't bruise, go figure). and it doesn't hurt when i press on it hard w/ my hands. well...it kinda does. but its not really a sharp pain, but of a dull throbbing. there def. is some throbbing in there. i'm tempted to go to the gym anyway. i mean, even if i can't run; i can at least do some more weight stuff. but i do like to at least get in a mile

edit,

also, it didn't hurt last night - i woke up with this.

uhm, i'm not in the army, i'm in the Air Force

just got back from the gym - ran 2 miles. foot felt aight. i think it is just soreness; nothing more. just weird, is all.

i felt like such a doofass, i get on the *only* treadmill that's left in the gym and it says, "replace emergency stop button" and i'm like, " does that mean?" so i go to the front desk, and the guy shows me this button that was sticking out on the machine that is attached to a wire that you're supposed to clip on to yourself....so if you start getting away from the machine, the button pops out and it stops. WEIRD! never seen that before. anyway, it worked once he popped it back in place.

then i did the cap't chair stuff: 10 leg lifts to the front, to the right, to the front, to the left, to the front. then a set of 5 leg lifts, then 5 pullups, 5 legs, 4 pullups, 5 legs, 3 pullups, etc... all the way down to one.

few more side lifts w/ 35 lb'ers; and called it a day!

great workout if you want to get a little bit of strength in there; but keep the heart rate up. i was almost non-stop the entire time!

thats actually not very tough.. i mean i haven't tried to hold one in that exact position for that long but notice how he has an alternate grip. IT makes all the difference. one hand is pushing out while the other one is pulling in (bottom to top respectively).

kudos to him for perfect balance and stability though

Coming from someone who doesn't even know the difference between your and you're... ok, champ!

I decided to change things up for today and attempted the tabata method with dumbbell thrusters at home. All I have to say is wow... I'm completely exhausted lol

Yup, I second that.

woo. just finished a new york road runners race. i'm definitely nowhere near race shape yet, so i used it as another training run. finished the 4 miles (according to my watch) in 32:25. it's only my third run in the last like 2 months (and all in the last 8 days!)

Well done! That's definitely not too bad, especially when considering the lack of preparation.

Just returned from my weekly long run myself. A bit cold (-1 Celsius), but the route I picked turned out to be beautiful. On top of that, it all went pretty easily. From next week on, I'm going to add a mile or two.
