And I said, "Yeah? Well you weren't. Sorry." And he went away all in a huff. Fucking idiot.

He was a ginger, too.

Stupid fuck.

Good for you, fuck his sweater. No male should be using a triceps machine anyway, he sounds like a mangina. I'm not sure what a ginger is but if it's what I think, they stink.

Did close to 12k yesterday, starting out slowly and gradually increasing tempo ('tempo').

Posted by tubularbills on Feb-05-2009 07:49:

i need to get back to the gym. but i can't really run, cause of the damn foot issue. i'm on anti inflammatories and motrin. but i want to at least go and lift weights or something. but work schedule is so dorked up right now. i get home (as much home as this damn hotel can be) and i just don't feel like doing anything!

motivation is way low right now. sucks.

You can build tremendous strength without bulk. Eating makes you big no matter what kind of lifting you do. You're lifting routine will either make you big and puffy without strength (like some bodybuilders)or thick and dense with strength (like powerlifters and some bodybuilders). Of course, it takes years to get big and strong, so if you don't like the way your body is responding, you can change your diet and routine. Regarding cardio, perform the High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) variety. Check out www.t-nation.com

thank you.

a)blow off the gym so you can have a decent amount of sleep

OR

b) go to the gym and be sleep deprived

I have sucked it up and done the latter but I am starting to think the good I am doing at the gym does not justify sleeping badly. I should have gone to the gym today but fuck that...yesterday I was yawning between sets.

eating is definatley more important then sleep (for muscle building anyways)

naturally sleep is primarily for the mind (although For sure your body goes into a slower metabolic rate when asleep). Your muscles need nutrition to recover. Think about dolphins, fish and animals which sleep standing. they are in great shape yet dont require full sleep

Its important to rest but not as important as nutrition

That's wrong...sleep is very important for muscle recovery/building. This is the time your body repairs itself, without sleep, it's almost impossible to grow (naturally).

went back to the gym again. only ran for 10 minutes tho, cause of my damn foot. afterwards, did some minor lifting with the arms/abs. then pullups. then leg lifts and dips on the cap't chair. felt pretty good. afterwards, i went to my hotel's hot tub and steam room and relaxed

did you just ignore everyhing i wrote in that paragraph.. i believe i gave an explanation. How do you thing dolphins grow or even the blue whale (the largest animal in the world).

Your body is not sleeping, cells are continually dividing and dying regardless whether you're at rest or not.. you don't just grow at night, you grow constantly. metabolic rate slows down and activity is reduced during sleep. The mind controls the body thats true but nutrition outweighs rest for sure.. there is no argument there.

So if I sleeping stand up i'll be big like a dolphin orblue whale?

Posted by chimera66 on Feb-06-2009 01:59:

so basically i probably should have gone to the gym. i actually eat pretty well so nutrition isn't my issue just sleep...my work stresses me out so going to the gym helps but at the same time i'm running on 5hrs of sleep which isn't good.

exactly you dumb ass

im just saying that SLEEEPING is over rated.. resting on the other hand lowers metabolism and encourages a calorie surplus (you're body can use this energy towards repair and growth.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Feb-06-2009 02:03:

I do pretty well on only 4-5 hours sleep. I don't have a choice a lot of the time...just have lots of shit to do. Homework, mainly. :/

if your trying to gain weight i would say sleeping is more important (you want to use as little calories as possible) losing weight is not as important. as long as your eating healthy and not starving yourself. I don't think lack of sleep is going to force your body to go into fat storage mode.

not looking to gain any weight, would like to drop a couple pounds but not like it's urgent. i've got no real complaints. as for healthy eating i cook all my own stuff and am a walking healthy snack machine . i'm out of my apt most of the day so i like to make sure i have healthy eating alternatives around even on the go.

Yes, I ignored most of what you said. We are not dolphins or whales, what works for them is not going to work for us. You sound like you read most of that in a book. Post one of your training logs for all to see, if you train hard and heavy, you would know you needed sleep to recover. Personally, the order of importance is workout, sleep, nutrition.
