Sphere, i think we need to have a min of 3 judges per competition. We have enough competitors to support that.

Lets say they say YES to the challenge on the 12th... they have until the 17th!!! to submit a mix! How does that sound?

And also, if they ACCEPT a challenge and FAIL to upload, how's about we deduct a point from them?

This will...

A. move comps through quicker..
B. fight this Auto-win thing going on (i'm 3rd and aint submitted a winner yet!)

Another idea is to also have an area set aside on the first page to show when you ARE and ARE NOT currently available? Name as it is means your available - red you are not!!!! + 3 failiures to upload after accepting results in a 5 point deduction.

BASICALLY, if your in it - DO IT! If you aint gonna do it - LEAVE IT!

Anyone with comment for these idea's?

I think that if one of the competitiors don't upload no-one gets the 'win'. And the guilty person get some penalty. Either loose points or something like 'be judge twice before being able to challange/be challanged again'

Posted by Bughy on Jul-15-2005 18:39:

well...

not that i`m in .. i have to wait for a challenge , because i`m a newbie ? or what ?

Posted by mr2gti on Jul-15-2005 20:09:

If your now on the board as a newbie, simply request to be a judge on a comp - at the same time - send Sphere a PM with the DJ you wish to take on

Congratulations to the winner of the 17th Competition . . . Fred Acer

I think all of us can't wait to hear Your great mix.

It was fun to compete with You Fred, great job! I bet there are a lot of people here who can't wait to hear Your mix. If You like I could host it for us.

I'd like to thank Venik and mr2gti too. They took some time to listen to our mixes and making some notes. Always nice to have some feedback. And yeah You're right, the mix hasn't enough variety. I try to change that next time.

If anyone like to hear my mix, You can download it here

Hope You enjoy it.

This is the tracklist.

01. Jeff Bennett - Strange Items (Hernan Cattaneo Remix)
02. Matthew Dekay and Doves - Clearing the mind

Since scores are up, i can post my comments now

17opponent1

Comments during listening:
---------------------------------

1-2: Generally a good transition. Beat-matching just a tiny bit off at places (7:03). Harmonics was great.
2-3: Solid
3-4: Near perfect. Needed just a little adjustment on beatmatching
4-5: Perfect

Closing comments:
---------------------------------
I liked how this started, but with every new track it sounded same or close to one before it. Maybe track 4 should have came eralier, i dunno. Overall all

the tracks fit toghether but are too similar to each other.
Technical part was good. Tiny hickups at palces but great otherwise. Well done.

Score:
---------------------------------
Beat-matching: 23/25
Track selection and play order: 22/25 (Needs more veriety and spice in my oppinion)
Transition harmonics: 24/25 (3-4 Base cross a bit too rough compared to other transitions)
TOTAL: 69/75

17opponent2

Comments during listening:
---------------------------------
I dont know if this first track works as an opening track. I think it would have made a good 2nd track.

1-2: Very nice and smooth transition. I am almost didn't hear where it happened.
2-3: Liked the transition on this one.
3-4: Good transition, but was that a double beat at 17:32?
4-5: Superb

Closing comments:
---------------------------------
Was 1st and 2nd track by same artist (same vocalist?)? Cause they sounded VERY similar.
Ony 1 non-vocal track? I think this mix needed to be diluted with more non-voval tracks. Its nice when you are listening to a non-vocal track and then a

vocal one. It would be better in my oppinion for the last track to be first
Perfect beatmatching and harmonics.
Overall i liked this mix both musically and technically. Good job.

Score:
---------------------------------
Beat-matching: 25/25
Track selection and play order: 22/25
Transition harmonics: 25/25
TOTAL: 72/75

Thanks to both of you for participating!

challenge 14 results

challenge 14 rockabye's scores and comments:

OPPONENT 1

Track selection and play order : 20

Something different here. Not bad at all, but I can't see a real flow in it. This mix just don't take me on a journey.

Beat-matching : 21

Solid beat-matching, no important errors. Only the last transition wasn't superb but OK anyway.

Transition harmonics : 20

All transitions are quiet nice. No real mistakes in it but also no transition that deserves standing ovation.

OPPONENT 2

Track selection and play order : 15

You start with an rather uplifting track, the second gets a little bit darker and harder and then...UUUHHH...a sunny chill-out tune that just doesn't fit here at all. Than you go back to harder, darker tech-trance. Sorry, but these tracks doesn't fit together very well, you really have to think more about your track selection.

Beat-matching : 17

There are no terrible mistakes here but overall you have to practice on that too. Because your transitions are not very long your problems in beat-matching doesn't appear that huge.

Transition harmonics : 15

You bring in the new tracks too heavily, have to practice to make it softer. Sometimes it appears that you just fade to the next track. You have to use the eqs more and get a better feeling for the harmonics. And try to make the change of the bass more softly.

Overall

Opponent 1 : 20 / 21 / 20 = 61
Opponent 2 : 15 / 17 / 15 = 47

Opponent 1 wins that for me. Opponent 1 has a lot of potential and doesn't make any huge mistakes, but his performance have not yet reached the categorie -> outstanding.

Opponent 2 has to practice A LOT. I don't want to offend you, but your tracks doesn't fit together especially track #3 has no right to be in such a mix. Your transitions are too short and the new track comes in too hard. You have to practice here and try to make your transitions softer and less noticeable. Listen to some of the mixes in this competition to find out what I mean. You have a long way in front of you, but be sure that it's worth to practice.

comments:
Not a bad mix here, i liked tracks 2 and 3. your beatmatching was good no obvious mistakes. harmonics wise i would say very safe, nothing to hurt your ears but nothing to say wow that sounded great.
overall a smooth and competant mix.

opponent 2
tracklist 17/25
beatmatching 19/25
harmonics 18/25

comments
good attempt but you really do need to improve in certain area's
1. you don't play out your tracks long enough
2. you mixed too many genres of trance in this mix
3. even if you played out the tracks more your transition from one track to another is way too hard, heavy.
overall i would say to you good attempt but in this competition you are only limited to the number of tracks you can mix, not the overall length of the mix i would have liked to have heard more of the tracks you played. Also too many genres of trance in one mix, keep to the same type of trance and make it easier on yourself.
