And like I said, I think that is the problem that people seem to have. They can't differentiate what he is doing with ASOT versus what he does live. Being a part of his live set is just a mind blowing experience.

So why is it the norm to class people who like techno or prog to be more intelliegent? surely as those forms of music rely mainly on rhythm and not melodic elements those genres of music are simple.

I'm not saying techno or prog are more intelligent. But come on, would Frasier listen to Crazy Frog?

Well the intelligent person would listen to it and draw his own conclusions and respect why people may like it.

Yeah, conclude that it's stupid and only simple-minded people would like it.

if you were that into your music you wouldm't be bothered by what other people listen to unless ou are into the scene to be cool or due to the fashion.

You must also remeber the context your music is ment to enjoyed, Crazy frog is a novelty tune and by those standards its tops.

Mate, you've talked yourself into a corner.

Saying that tastes in music is defined by the intelligence of the listener is rediiculase, and whilst it can be applied in many senses, this does not make it fact.

People like what they like, for you too say that you have superior intelligence due to fact that you don't like trance and I do is holier than the Bible thinks it is.

Your statement would mean that there is no way that the geniuses of now and then would not like stuff that you consider to be simple because of their intellect, and how on earth could you ever state that even as a loosely backed up 'fact'?

pffft, n00b

usually its the producers who are most experimental and unique when it comes to djing, becasue they know about effects, structures, and loads of other technical shit that ur average dj does not. if u go listen to like mikey mike or Az's mixes in the ameteur dj forum they are shit. just one track then the next waiting till the very last minute to bring the next track in. I have been producing longer than i have been djing, i have only been djing for 2 or 3 years. but i make a point of being different when it comes to djing. using loops, acapellas, fx, mixing tracks in keys which complement each other ( i take the time to update my database with the key of each track i have at a certain tempo... im sure many djs do this, but alot do not. at the end of the day mate, if you think that there is more to djing than producing then you have no idea. producers get booked because clubbers these days like to see the guys who actually make the music, not just some idiot who gets paid to play other peoples. sure there are probably producers who learn to dj in a week and then get booked but who do u see complaining (apart from you?) people go see them because they like the music they MAKE. it pisses me off so much when "real djs" bitch and moan about "producer djs" just because they tend to get more gigs and better gigs than those "real djs"... let me tell u something mate... the djs who dont do anything apart from play other peoples music are the ones you should be moaning at, not us.

Ok i was reading this thread and ur post mike last nite really forced me to understand that u are really mad about all these comments about the producers on those days. And i really want to express my opinion which i believe could help things a bit out.

-I believe that the thing was implied previously in this thread is that producers that have NO idea out of djing suddenly they are being called to play in clubs.
And a proof of what its being said is an interview of ron van de beuken i read 2 years ago sayin that as a dj he was not talented at all AT ALL.But after a year reading that interview I saw him playin on a club! that's interesting isn't it?
-Is not impossible for a producer to become a good dj.As u said producing helps a lot.Though there are more , djing is not simple. Djing is like an art because a dj use his tunes each separately to add somethin in the atmosphere ,to redirect the crowd with a tune's crazy percussions or with very good strange pads combined with a nice strange melody ,sometimes the dj wants to calm them to make them dance ,to make the crowd cry and dance and in general being creative in many different ways mentally and technically. And here i am in my bottom line.Today's music don't allow that, tracks are all the same thus the djing art is something unnecessary cause they are not many things to do with tracks which are the same but only to do some effects to add acapellas which is much easier thing to do htan to dj with the old way ,for a producer as well ,so this doesn't need as much skill as old djing needed just lots of practice.(I don't want to offfend u IN ANY WAY)So in the end of the day many producers practically start djin. This picture of the producer/dj as it was implied reminds me the picture of a rockstar. Is a picture that promotes the idols and not the music and that's y many ppl in here shout about it

Peace

...not good enough to be on ANY list of the 100 top DJ's.

He's had some good productions, but producer does not = DJ, and as a DJ, there are plenty of TA's who are FAR better...

Posted by InDeepSpace on Oct-31-2005 14:14:

Just talked about his production skillz!!!!

Posted by Leon on Oct-31-2005 21:51:

Just thought I'd make you aware of a few things. Here are some links of places Andy gigged recently. If you dont know anything about Andy first hand as a DJ, I don't think it's fairplay to make these caustic comments without some sort of real cognition!

http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...12&pagenumber=1

http://www.phillydancescene.com/for...read.php?t=2439

I've never seen anyone bash his live performances ever, except for a hardtrancer who said he didn't like the tunes he played. He edits and tweaks many of the tracks he plays to make the night a different night for the crowd. In fact, got a rip from a liveset of his
'Depeche Schulz Without you precious'. I know for definite that he puts something into every gig. For example, I got friends in Toronto that went to see last weekend, where the people have a softspot for Starkid (RIP), and he knew people had been requesting his remix of 'Starkid Crayons', he made a unique edit just for the set.

Whether you like his style or not, it comes purely down to preference. Obviously everyone is open to opinion, and mine is that I think he's doing great for the progressive/trance scene, but as with anbody -- as soon as they become the least popular, it's open season for the cynics and haters..

Andy played this past Saturday here in San Francisco and while I was unable to attend (sorry, wasn't paying $50 at the door), word is he was amazing.

Posted by kadomony on Oct-31-2005 22:28:

all the bashers seriously need to stfu.
if you dont like trance, sure u can hate him all you want.
but those who DO like trance...

i had the honor of hanging out with him, and experiencing his set.
flow is GREAT, worked the EFX like a pro, and is very personable.

all in all, a great guy and a great dj.

I'd say that when he isn't leaning on Mr Leama that he just isn't doing much.
