It did show that trance was evolving away from super-saws and epic anthems, and moving into something that wasn't quite prog but not quite epic either. And there was still some of the same artists he's played before (Midway, Airbase, Signum, M.I.K.E., Lolo). I think it was after with his ASOT 2005 and ASOT 2006 CDs, where he got big into the vocal prog-house/dance/trance or mcprog type stuff (I guess you could call it that). |

| Originally posted by Subtle Yeah, but the difference between Transparance and Universal Religion was huge.. i mean ENVIO - TOUCHED BY THE SUN, FILO & PERI.. arghh !! and he never "recovered" from that.. also his 002 and 003 CD`s were fucking awesome, good progressive trance on CD 1 and more upfront on CD 2.. ASOT 2005 and all that.. I was totally out of his music by then.. Sunburn, and remixes of Ocean Lab and Motorcycle.. was the last good thing i ever heard from him.. apart from "Who Is Watching" which is one of the newer tracks i enjoyed from him. |

| Originally posted by Spirit5 Well I own both of those CDs and enjoy them equally. Sure Transparance had some proggier stuff like on CD1, but I actually think on that CD, he was starting to go away from the big trance anthems that were found like in Boundaries of Imagination, and was bringing a sound a little less grandiose. Haha and I actually like Envio's "Touched by The Sun" and Filo & Peri's "Elevation". Good melodic tracks. Universal Religion is one of Armin's best CDs IMO, next to "Boundaries of Imagination". ASOT 2004 was good, but after that with ASOT 2005...the quality dipped and he got away from trance and was getting into...I dunno what to call it, but the title of the CD is misleading. |
Yeah I don't listen to ASOT or am an Armin fan anymore. I'm not really into a lot of the big names except their old productions, CDs, live sets and remixes.
Oh what the hell, I might as well do and reply.
- I have to agree with Del. I don't know whether it would be correct to say that Trance is dead, but it has suffered from a few negative things, so much is certain. Ofcourse producing electronic dance music is not easy, but the fact is that all of a sudden (including me too) people started producing themselves. That is not per se a bad thing. It gets bad when labels sign tracks which are actually not worth the signing, and dj's pick these tracks up and start promoting them. Too many music has been signed, which wasn't worth it anyway, in the first place. Too many bad tracks have found their 'way in', unfortunately.
- Then there's the fact that some dj's constantly play tracks, because they want to support their colleague trance DJ's/producers, by spinning their music. Instead of checking out other tracks, they only seem to have interest in the tracks that are made by the more known producers in the scene. Other, potentially better tracks, are being ignored often, maybe not by us, but some DJ's should really broaden their horizon when it comes to track selection.
- Furthermore I think that not one person can be blamed of 'killing Trance'. It's an accumulation of things. I don't know if Trance is dead, but I sure as hell don't like the direction it's going in for the last couple of years.
- Some producers have to stand up and get original, instead of copying other tracks. Some DJ's have to stand up as well and head for a different direction.
