They said the serial # was filed off the gun. Are serial #s an international policy for all weapons?
If not (if its only an american policy), is it possible for a student visa to be enough ID to purchase a gun in the lax gun control states?

he most likely bought them illegally in the US. gun deals who don't want weapons traced back to them file them off.

Yes.

I love how once everyone finds out that it's a foreign national, it's ok to make fun of the situation. Typical America, as long as we can blame things on another country, we suddenly feel pretty good about the situation.

Are you fucking kidding me? If there would have been no gun involved, and he had a knife... sure he could have killed 3 people or so, but then someone would have beat the shit out of him. It is not about race and not the 'guns kill people, people kill people' bullshit. If there were stricter laws on obtaining and/or owning guns... would this have happened...twice? What about other schools... offices... post offices? Back in the day when the amendments were written, it made perfect sense to have the right to bear arms, and form militias. Times have changed. Gone are the horse and buggy, gone is the lawless west and such.

This twat purchased a gun legally in the state of Virginia. Yes we have a second amendment right, but does that really need to be dealt with this day and age?

what is much worse is possible (and, i admit, justified) further restrictions for foreign student visas because of this fishyfuck.

Like what? Have you even been watching or reading the news since this started? Every other sentence has been, "We believe the shooter is asian... Students are saying that the attacker was asian... Is it true that the shooter was asian?... We can now confirm that the shooter was asian..."

Yes, he's asian. So what? Why put emphasis on it, what is that going to accomplish? Nothing. Him being asian has nothing to do with what he did. Anybody could've done this; I could've, someone from Canada could've, someone from Brazil, someone from Egypt or Iceland could've. It makes no fucking difference where they came from.

i think the media is having a hard time coming to terms with that the shooter wasn't black

+1

Anyone who says different just sounds like Bill O'Reilly. "The issue isn't that he killed 32 people. The issue is he killed those people because that's the kind of person Asian people are."

if he was hellbent on creating a mass murderscene (and not too concerned about this girlfriend), either he was going to find a way to find a damn gun........or just refer to his Anarchist Cookbook which includes several chapters/articles on chemical attacks.

And take 2 weeks to cook up a bomb and plan something? Please, if this was truly a crime of passion, it was thought up the night before at the latest.

Says who?

Law enforcement officials told ABCNews.com that Cho bought his first gun, a Glock 9mm handgun, on March 13; they say he bought his second weapon, a 22-caliber handgun, within the last week. The serial numbers on both guns had been filed off, sources said.

Legal permanent resident aliens may purchase firearms in the state of Virginia. A resident alien must, however, provide additional identification to prove he or she is a resident of the state.

Have you not been reading the news reports?

Either way, by now you won't be able to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. Tell me how you plan on keeping guns out of the hands of criminals by banning the legal purchasing of guns. Even if this guy bought a gun legally, he probably had the right to since he most likely had a clean criminal record. There's always going to be exceptions to rules, but to enact things to restrict the exceptions you wind up needlessly restricting the rule.

I would like to hear a plan as well on how banning guns entirely would be the answer to keeping guns out of the hands of criminals.

Restrictions I can see if there's a benefit for, a complete ban on the legal purchasing of guns is most likely something I will never agree to

I never stated a ban would work. Gun control does not mean ban, it means, as you say, restrictions are required.

Posted by idoru on Apr-17-2007 16:23:

Restrictions are the best thing you can do. There will always be guns in this country, regardless of if they're illegal or not. When you want something then you can obtain it, and guns are no different.

so how is it different from "a tall white male" or "a short black female"? this is a criminal report.

and where did I or anyone else say it does? identifying suspect's race, sex, height and other attributes is one of the techniques the police uses to find possible witnesses, accomplices and other related stuff, y'know

i think you are just specifically trying to find non-existent references. leave that to Al Sharpton, he does a good job at it. and this is just as a criminal report as any other.

Well I still have yet to hear about restrictions that would in any way prevent gun crime. In fact, as far as I've heard, gun crimes have decreased for the past decade or so, every year. The two week wait period, all of these things, just don't seem to be the answer to lessen gun crimes. Crimes of passion more than likely would be committed with an illegally purchased gun. More often than not, if someone is incredibly mad and wants to kill, that person would not go through lengthy legal means to obtain a legitimate and watched firearm.

Just doesn't seem worth it.

I'm calling it as I see it. I had CNN on all day yesterday, and they constantly over-emphasized that he was asian. I have zero problem with them saying it once in a while as a criminal report, but the amount of times they've referenced him being asian has become far beyond excessive.

Do you know how to purchase a gun illegally?
