The 'push-pull' zoom sucks way too much dust into the insides of the lens (it has to be professionaly taken apart/cleaned/recalibrated every 3 years or so, depending on use). Also, the consistency of their calibration is POOR, even new. This means that there are sharp copies of the lens, average coppies of the lens, and soft copies of the lens. Until you test it out, you have no idea what you'll get. Sharp copies are very hard to come by, and I've seen them sell for $2500 AUD second hand. And it's not often that people sell them. I know I wouldn't. All of that adds up to "it needs to be re-done". |

Originally posted by Rasidel Slika Basically, the 5D/5D2 are known for their IQ (image quality). I would like to see how the 850 stacks up to em.

Originally posted by Sushipunk Oh, image quality. Duh, sorry, I'm a bit slow today ![]() Well, as far as I'm aware, the image quality is extremely good.

After pressing the depth of field preview button, the camera grabs a RAW preview image which is processed and displayed on the LCD screen. You can then fine tune white balance, determine the best level and effect of dynamic range optimization, adjust exposure compensation and check histogram data, all before you actually take the picture. Preview images are not recorded on the cameras memory card, thus saving capacity.
one of the real knowledgeable guys on another forum Im on just shared this tidbit about the A850:
quote:
I just looked up the latest prices on B&H: If you compare a A850 with a 16-35mm and 24-70mm, with a Canon 5D2 and the equivalent L glass, the Canon kit is only $37 more. That means that the two Sony lenses are $663 more than the Canon equivalents because the body is $700 more. Start adding in a couple more lenses and flashes and the Sony kit would be insanely expensive. It's not really the value Sony would like everyone to believe it is.

Originally posted by Sushipunk Yeah, I always found that to be a bit cheeky of them. Charging the same amount as Canon, but for a non-IS lens just because the cam has the IS. But then, it is Sony, after all
well from the sound of it they are charging more than Canon L for their lenses. thats kinda nuts.

Originally posted by Sushipunk Not for all of them, but quite a few yeah. I was looking at their 70-400mm, and it's cheaper than Canon's 100-400mm. It's also superior in optical quality by quite a bit. In fact it was that lens alone that made my gf start thinking of buying Sony gear
