the funny thing is i just had my sister read over a bit of the paper and its completely coherent and actually better than my normal writing. oh and i'm talking about the economy vs human development in brazil

hah also went to the kitchen to fix a drink (what could possibly go wrong!) and got out a glass, tossed in some ice, put in some gin, and opened the fridge to get some tonic water. NO TONIC WATER NOOOOOOOOOO. lol all we got is milk. that seemed like a shitty option so i decided to look in the freezer (this gin isn't good enough to warrant drinking straight really)
turns out we had some frozen blueberries with lots of freezer burn. tossed some of those in, stirred around till the freezer burn melted and now after sitting for a bit its actually kinda taste. gogo impromptu blueberry-tini!

yeah i'm more interested in the relationship between HDI and economic growth, been looking at things like the Gini coefficient, % below the poverty line, domestic investment, etc

To be fair, most of those countries are clearly first world and have been developed for ages, whereas you guys are a 'developing nation'. so with that in mind you're ahead of a lot of your competition

Now, how come we score so poorly at this Gini thing if our HDI is high? (0.8 is high according to the UN, don't tell me otherwise! ). What's wrong with us? We need a mezzirian analysis here...

edit: Oh, the data they used is from a survey taken 10 years ago. Brazil changed quite a lot in this period, I guess.

Well for starters I can understand it in relation to other countries who share similar HDI scores with you (Kazakhstan, Panama, Venezuela), and it really boils down in my opinion to the fact that you guys compare yourself to nations like the US, Canada, the UK, france germany etc. all those are in the top 25 (you're ranked #70). additionally, its regional. the lowest HDI score in the americas is Haiti with a .529, and the 10th worst has a .755.
then take africa, the fourth ranked nation in africa has a .766. their 4th best is roughly equivalent to our 10th worst. their bottom 10 are in the .336-.411 range, waaaaaaaay below you guys in brazil.

oh and also the HDI doesn't account for the Gini coefficient, they just care about life expectancy, literacy rate, enrollment ratio, and GDP/PPP. so those few rich bastards are in fact bringing your HDI score up
