Rose is doing nursing?

Posted by Slylee on Oct-16-2009 17:13:

and btw rose, the other lies i'm talking about from jay will not be discussed in here because they involve the privacy of other TAs' personal lives/relationships whom i respect.

Well I am in a community college for 2 years (to get my AA) and then plan on going to a University (no idea if it will be out of state, I don't want to stay here but at the same time idk). I'm actually debating getting my masters. Am I crazy? :/

Posted by Silky Johnson on Oct-16-2009 17:19:

See what the fuck is AA? Is that associates? I don't understand the point of that shit. How can someone be half of anything? I'm surprised they even allow that for nursing, to be honest.

And no, I don't think you're crazy for wanting your master's. If you find you have a passion for nursing and want to get involved in the research aspect of it (plus make more money and have more opportunities), damnwell go for it. I almost think it's dumb not to. Nursing is changing so much that I think RNs with their masters will become the norm. Up here anyways...the scope of practice is changing so much for RNs and RPNs.

Posted by Slylee on Oct-16-2009 17:20:

no why would you be crazy? rose go to UM. my girlfriend is an ER nurse for 10+ years at memorial regional in hollywood and she's going for her masters now and she's 40.

yea jenny an AA is a 2 year degree offerred at "community college".

Yeah, but that's only because I've got a better shot at getting a blow-job from Jay... if Jenny were slutier or you were closer I may switch sides.

edit... in all honestly... I think Jay probably has some issues that motivate his behaviour on-line... he's entertaining but there's a little too much edge there sometimes. My guess is his issues are nothing serious or even out of the ordinary though. I'd like to meet him. We all know I love Jamie. Jenny... I'm never quite sure how to take but I thinks she's probably the type of person I'd love to hang with for a few hours at a time (no offence intended... I just think you may be a little much for me to take for a whole day). Ultimately, I don't much care about sides on this one... but I don't like to see people hurt.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Oct-16-2009 17:22:

So I guess a program like that would be the equivalent of RPN up here, which is also 2 years at CC. Makes sense now.

edit: I still don't get the labeling system of your "degrees" though. It almost seems comparable to vanity sizing in clothes, lol. Up here it's understood that a degree = bachelor's or higher, which means you went to university. You don't get a degree in community college, you get a diploma or a certificate.

Who you calling not slutty? You've changed.

Posted by MeLLyMeL on Oct-16-2009 17:25:

LPN should be 2 years.

I agree RN shoud be Bach.

Like me - I am doing Assistant - that's 2 years. If I go for 4-5 years I get a bach and become an OTR instead of OTA.

I figure as an OTA I can get a job that *may* pay for me to continue schooling.

you think you're so funny don't you mister soon-to-be neutered male

Posted by Silky Johnson on Oct-16-2009 17:27:

Well as far as I know, it IS mandatory for RNs to have a bachelor's. It's been the standard in many countries for some time now...and the goal is to have global continuity with graduation/practice requirements/standards of care/etc.

Posted by MeLLyMeL on Oct-16-2009 17:29:

you don't have to have a bach, here. not for RN.

You can and you make more money.

yea an associate's degree is kind of a joke, no offense to anyone, but i just mean that it's very easy to obtain. the classes and students are like high school really.

and i'm talking about the associate degrees like "business" lol and only if one goes for that and nothing further...that's what is a joke to me. the 2 year nursing degree programs are different. they set you up for working in that environment and there's tons of more education to go through that is funded by hospitals if you chose to work at one in return for having tuition paid for.

basically 2 year degrees are for people who didn't go to university right from high school and they cant' exactly go applying to those universities....it's easier and cheaper to get a 2 year transferrable degree.

I've always been interested in nursing. I know soooo many people that want to be RN's just because of the money. It's kind of sad, really. They are going to be doing something they aren't even interested in for the rest of their lives just because they will get paid well.

UM is expensive as FUCK. FIU is 10 minutes from me and cheaper than UM. But I don't even know if I want to stay here yet. Barry is a really good University but too far from. I think it's near your house lol.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Oct-16-2009 17:37:

That's actually good though...because obviously it provides people with opportunity. I just don't understand why the States of all countries is lagging behind, especially since many of the leaders of the profession are Americans. I'm sure it all comes down to money somehow, once again, lol.

Posted by Slylee on Oct-16-2009 17:40:

yea FIU is becoming more and more accredited. my ex went to graduate school there after getting his BA from ohio state. i just know that UM is an excellent school and yes, very expensive. i just figured if you're going for your masters, why not go to UM? barry is great too but yea i think it's in north miami?

yea we definitely are the land of opportunity with very few people taking advantage of it lol foreigners take more advantage of the opportunity here than americans.
