Just wait till they start driving. We've spent enough on my younger step-daughter's 2008 Nissan Sentra getting that POS road worthy to have purchased two very nice used cars.
First swim lesson in the books! I'm super stoked about the news, wife took L to Water Babies and he kicked his feet and splashed with his arms and was having so much fun he didn't want to get out. Next week they are going underwater though, so send your thoughts and prayers to my wife pls.
Swim class is the highlight of our winters! In kinderswim now so she gets to do the slide and practice jumping in from the edge. So fun!
Yea we started a weekly class at I think at 5 or 6 months and have been pretty regularly hitting them. Total pro at getting dunked, but hates floating on her back! It's a blast seeing them in the water, and knowing they know what to do if they fall in.
Yup same, since 6 months! Only thing she hates is wearing the life jacket, but to be fair they are so huge and uncomfortable looking.
Had her first bad dream last night. Well I assume so, because I dunno what else would make her fully wake up at 330am. She was calling out for mama, but not very loud. I turned on the video monitor and she was standing up, leaning onto the crib railing. Took her a good 1.5-2 hours to fall back asleep after I went in to comfort her, as I would expect after fully waking up after a solid 8 hours of sleep already. Pretty cranky this morning, lol.
oohh, that sounds awful. That's always a terrible feeling looking at the monitor and seeing a baby standing.
We have 5 weeks until #2! things are getting big.
The creepy glowing eyes, lol. She knows what/where the camera is and stares right up at it.
5 weeks! Eek!
posted this in the Friday thread but wanted to share here. So I may take my daughter to the movies this weekend while mommy is out of town. I hate doing stuff cuz I'm a lazy fuck but it's the kid so you gotta do it.
A coworker gave me some good advise. She said 'you should always have date days/nights with your daughter". I was like "huh? you crazy". But she told me that her husband would always take their daughter out on little dates. For instance, they'd get dressed up and go out and have nice lunch/dinner/movie/etc. Just the two of them. Why? Because Dad was trying to show his (only) daughter (they had 3 other boys) what a real date should be. More importantly, how a man should treat a lady. She'd say, "Billy (with an attitude, hand on hip and pointing finger at me), you live in Los Angeles and you know these little boys are little fucking assholes. You need to show that little girl how a proper gentleman should treat her. Set those expectations up high".
It's a good point! So I share that advise with not just those other Daddies with daughters but maybe even with Mommies with sons. Show those kids how to respect one anoanother
That's it. Till then... What's on netfilx?
I'm triggered

Used the potty for the first time yesterday with great success! She's been conscious of her need to pee/poop for some time now, so a couple weeks ago I figured I'd put a potty in the bathroom for her to become familiar with. I let her watch me use the toilet often, tell her what I'm doing when I'm going, etc. It's not something we're pushing for aggressively at all, so that she did it pretty much all on her own (knowing she had to go, asking to do it on the potty) got us all pretty excited lol. She was super pumped!
She's very young still so I don't expect too much, but excited that she's comfortable with it at least!
One step closer to the end of diaper dependency!!

Yum!
end diaper dependency??? no wai! That's awesome.
Ours likes to go in the bathroom when we poop poop or pee pee and always has to wash her hands after. But she lies when she poop poops to try and play longer without a diaper change!
Bahaha, you won't be near the end of diaper dependency for some time with #2 (no pun intended) on the way!

Uh oh, wife's water broke this morning and we are getting the epidural in a few mins.
Kid #2 decided to get out a little early.
Exciting! Wishing you guys a safe, speedy delivery!
Ya that went quick. Just two rounds of pushes and he was out. 10 mins max. Second one is much easier. So far so good.
Wooo congrats!!
Congrats! I already said it on FB, but it's real now because I'm saying it on TA.
I think 2 year molars are on the move. First thing out of her mouth this morning after waking up was "medicine" followed by "mouth" lol.
Joined some friends and took our little family to the Los Angeles Museum of Science and History. Had a lot of fun. Just kind of let her run around play with all the science stuff. Ended the day with some ice cream and running around the park.
Play dates are key. I feel bad that we don't have enough friends with kids her age. There are the kids from school but we haven't really had the chance to meet the other parents though. We're one and done parents but I realize how important having siblings for your kid can be. Maybe if we win that lottery though

I don't think that's true re: necessity of siblings. You cannot guarantee how siblings will relate to and get along with one another, even if you will be pro at helping them navigate their relationship.
Humans have learned to socialize since the dawn of our time without daycares, preschools, as only children or one of many, and so on. Only children do just fine.
